Friday 12 of November - Apple Day!

FRIDAY 12pm EDT I think we have to kick-off with the possible highlight on Friday, Knut Hake talking about the Netflix Original vampire thriller in the air, Blood Red Sky. Two things to do before hearing from Knut. First of all watch the movie on Netflix and then have a read of Oliver Peter's article on how the film was made with Final Cut Pro.

FRIDAY 1PM EDT Apple present 'What's New in Apple Pro Video'. Expect to see FCP 10.6 running on the new MacBook Pros. Cinematic Mode and of course the new tracking in FCP will also feature. Maybe we will see Motion and Compressor demoed as well. Remember, the Apple presentation will not be available afterwards, miss it, miss out!

FRIDAY 2pm EDT The session after that is an OWC solutions demo. Not only do you have OWC CEO Larry O'Connor, but you also have Jen Soule and Sam Mestman presenting. New products maybe?

There's also a couple of sessions in the evening that look to have an Apple involvement. Keep an eye on those.

Monday 8th of November is a 'New to me' day designed as an introduction to the Pro Apps.

1pm EDT Mark Spencer kicks off his run of presentations with 'Motion in Just Minutes: How to Get Started Under 10 Min'. If you have never used Motion and wanted to give it a go, this presentation will be ideal.

8pm EDT  We will be tuning in for Mike Matzdorff and his session '“The FCP Mindset” for the Track Based Editor.' He's got a lot of NLE knowledge, Hollywood credentials and a great sense of humour.

Tuesday November the 9th moves on to the art in editing and also the two 'tracks' of sessions start.

1pm EDT Audio is often the poorer half of production, so good to see Charlie Austin presenting 'Getting People to Sound GREAT in FCP'.

2pm EDT Straight after that, we will be flicking the remote control over to watch Sam Mestman present 'Blueprint for a Micro Budget Feature'. 

7pm EDT Summer Stories in Chicago with Vince Vaughn. The key is in the title here. We are looking forward to hearing from this Hollywood actor and producer on being involved with making films on a much smaller scale, but still with a lot of passion for storytelling.

8pm EDT Later in the day, the leading lady of Motion, Jenn Jager makes her Summit debut with 'Motion: Animation Made Easy with Behaviors'.

Wednesday 10th of November is all about Mobile, lots to choose from here.

7pm EDT Antipodean (He's going to be up early!) Lee Herbet will present 'From iPhone to FCP: How to Start on Your Phone and End on Your Mac'. Even more important with the iPhone 13 Pro out now.

8pm EDT Following that will be Nick Harauz with a topic that doesn't get much of a mention, but is essential for social media - 'Designing Vertical Video'.

9pm EDT Another mention here to one half of the Ripple team, Mark Spencer who is presenting 'Working with iPhone HDR in Final Cut Pro'. As we think Dolby vision is THE mastering format for the future, we will be watching.

Thursday 11th of November is a day focused on pros. 

12pm EDT Thursday starts with Cirina Catania 'FCP for Non-Editors: For Producer's Eyes Only' It will be interesting to get a different perspective on FCP.

8pm EDT The organiser of the program, Jeff Greenberg will present 'These Shots are Never Going to Match!' We know he likes a challenge when it comes to colour correction and from a recent Skype call, we know Jeff is going to have to use all his colour correcting knowledge on this one.

We are back from NAB, we have got over the jet lag, so time to delve back into our photos and notes and round up our thoughts about NAB from day two onwards.

We publish the first in a set of videos from the Faster Together stage at NAB 2019. We start with an inspirational presentation from Michael Cioni, Senior VP of Innovation at Panavision. He takes a long hard look into the future.

An odd combination, but one when you read the article below, all will become clear. We post the pictures from the first Faster Together event in Las Vegas and post a free Final Cut Pro X plugin that was used for the quick-turnaround edits on the night.

The first day of Spring, but time to cast your mind back to January. The LACPUG had a special night where Apple and Frame.io presented the new features of 10.4.4 to the audience. The video of the presentation has just gone live!

As NAB draws near, the announcements start. Three of the speakers who will present on stage at the Faster Together event have just been announced. It is going to be well worth attending!

At the recent LACPUG meeting, one of the guests on stage was tech reviewer and vlogger Jonathan Morrison. A big FCPX fan, watch how he discovered how fast it was to edit when compared to a colleague's NLE.

Were you sad to hear the usual annual meetup wasn't going to happen at NAB 2019? We can break the news that LumaForge has just announced that a replacement Tuesday night event will be held - an expansion of previous year's Faster Together presentations.

A busy few days for everybody! Apple's video Pro Apps all get an update and the fourth FCPX Creative Summit takes place. We have corralled the videos from the past week with multiple languages and multiple opinions on the update!

It's quite simple. Stop what you are doing, make a large coffee and watch these two videos. Never before has Randy Ubillos, the creator of the original Final Cut Pro and FCPX, gone into so much detail about the history of NLE software development. We publish the two part recording of Randy's chat with Michael Horton at the recent LACPUG 18th birthday anniversary meeting.

If you are anywhere near Los Angeles next week, then you must attend the 18th anniversary of the LACPUG. FCP & Premiere creator Randy Ubillos and original FCP team member Tim Serda will be interviewed by Michael Horton. Bradley Olsen will present the debut of 'Off the Tracks' the crowdfunded documentary about FCPX. There's a coupon code as well!

Do you remember Apple's 10.4 presentation from the LACPUG? Afterwards three of the filmmakers from the Apple Short Film Project got to present and talk about their entry. Sam Mestman takes a look behind the scenes of the productions with the finished films and recorded presentations from that night.

It has been a few weeks since the event, but we are very pleased to be able to publish the full FCPX & Motion presentation that Apple gave at the LACPUG meeting in Los Angeles on January 14th.

How close can you edit video to it being captured? The answer is about five seconds from live using Softron's MovieRecorder software. Pierre Chevalier edits his own presentation on FCPX whilst giving the presentation. Get your head around that!

We have the next in the series of presentations from the Faster Together stage at NAB 2017 and this time it is about the helpful media management tool, Kyno.

Ever wondered what it takes to make a weekly web series? Steve Martin at the Faster Together Stage at NAB 2017 takes us through the recording and post production of MacBreak Studio. (On FCPX of course.)

The 'Master of Metadata" Philip Hodgetts presented FindrCat and FindrCat Pro at the recent Faster Together event at NAB 2017. See how the applications can take metadata out of FCPX and into the finder.

It is the end of March and that means one thing, everybody is gearing up for NAB. Sam Mestman from Lumaforge takes us through some very interesting events for FCPX editors at the show in Las Vegas.

Time for the first Final Cut Pro X Virtual User Group of the year, number 9. If you missed it live, we have embedded the show and the after show videos.

In his presentation at the FCP X TOUR Barcelona, David López walked us through the NLE testing process they went through for Salvados, a hugely popular prime time TV show in Spain. Moving forward from FCP7 they considered Avid and tested DaVinci Resolve, FCP X and Premiere Pro CC. They finally adopted Final Cut Pro X, and David explains why exactly the other NLEs were not selected. Video included!

During the FCP X Tour in Barcelona we had the pleasure of having a live FaceTime conversation with Marc Bach in California. Hegives an honest opinion about FCP X 10.3 and tells us why he thinks that some of his colleagues still don’t want to hear anything good about it. Videos included!

The recent FCPX 'focused' meeting of the Los Angeles Creative Pro User Group was a sell-out. Even the waiting list had to be closed! One of the highlights was a detailed presentation of how Final Cut Pro X works with a narrative workflow.

Looks like the Final Cut Pro X News is spreading!  Just announced are two new events, London on the 15th and Berlin on the 18th of November 2016. Now Europe can see the cool 10.3 demonstrations.

With the launch of the recent update of FCPX to 10.3, there is a lot to talk about. The roundtable discussion returns and there's a little surprise in there too.

We had the pleasure of attending the Special Event on the Apple Campus and we were not disappointed. We also got to test out the Touch Bar with Final Cut Pro X!

So the big news is out and FCPX 10.3 has been announced. Thomas Grove Carter has put together his top ten new features in Final Cut Pro X 10.3

The Final Cut Pro Tour doesn’t stop! While the videos from FCPXTOUR@IBC are still hot off the press, the new line-up for the next session in Barcelona has just been announced. Jesús Pérez-Miranda tells FCP.co all about it.

Day two and three of IBC were spent at Spaces, close to the RAI. We were there for the FCPX Tour event. If you didn't go, you missed one of the most important FCPX events to happen this year.

At one point, Sapphire plugins from GenArts were the expensive, but 'must have' set of tools for high end editing and compositing suites. The company has just been acquired by Boris FX, so we rushed over to the booth at IBC Hall 7 to talk to the man himself Boris Yamnitsky.

It is early in September and we are in Amsterdam. That means only one thing, IBC. Surprisingly it is bright and sunny, but we are indoors looking at what is new at the show.

So you thought that there would be no FCP X event at all during this year’s IBC? Well, we have got some breaking news for you.

Hot off the press and subject to change, FCPWORKS and FCP.co have announced the schedule and speakers for this year's presentations at NAB2016

Yes more great FCPX demos to watch and more coffee to be drunk this morning!. FCP Exchange continued on March 5th at Abel Cine in Burbank. The second session of the Final Cut Pro X workshop series featured collaborative workflows and shared storage solutions. The day included sessions from Apple (which was private for the crowd) Quantum, Softron, Blackmagic, and editors Charlie Austin, Patrick Southern and David Tillman. Great viewing!

We couldn't make BVE at ExCel London this year, a shame as Soho Editors had a lecture area that put on presentations that mainly concentrated on Final Cut Pro X. So luckily for us they have just published recordings of the sessions.  Rory from Soho Editors, Thomas Grove Carter, a couple of Alexes and Pierre from Softron all take to the stage.

We were lucky to get a sneak preview of a very early copy of the latest new software from the Belgian developer Softron. M|Replay gives you four channels of 'live' record and replay on your Mac Pro.

We're excited to share the news that the FCP Exchange workshop series produced by FCPWORKS and promoted by FCP.co continues in 2016 with new sessions in Los Angeles in March and at NAB in Las Vegas this April.

The first FCPeXchange held at the weekend was a great success. Good speakers and a good turnout. Promoted by FCPWORKS and FCP.co, we thought we would publish a few pictures of the event.

Wes Plate from Automatic Duck presented his new product Ximport AE at the recent Los Angeles Creative Pro User Group. Wes showed the audience how to get FCPX timelines into After Effects and also recounts some great NLE history. Well worth a watch with your morning latte for half an hour!

Last weekend we had the pleasure of attending not just the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam, but we also visited the FCP EXPO event and the Supermeet.

How do you know Final Cut Pro X is popular? When you have to move into a tent as you've grown out of the usual meeting room! The recent FCPX meeting in Buenos Aires hosted by Leonardo Hancevich (Leo Hans) was a huge success.

We were not really interested in the new iPad Air or paying with a thumbprint, but Apple's presentation brought a stunning new 5K screened iMac, an updated Mac mini and the release of the new OS Yosemite.

It got moved to a new time to help us on this side of the pond, but still some people managed to miss it! Good job Pixel Corps has published the whole two hours online.

Unfortunately for us on the right side of the pond, the scheduling of the the Final Cut Virtual User group doesn't really work for us. Good job they have just posted the recording of last nights meeting!
