3 Post Moderation Rule for New Boarders (25 Jan 2021)
New boarders will have their posts moderated - Don't worry if you cannot see your post immediately.
Waiting on 10.2.4 and 10.3
I'm sorry to burst your bubble here, but that's not how Apple works—or ever has.
Here's the deal. It would be nice to have everything: a fast machine and a machine you can upgrade and keep forever. That's not the case. You'll never buy anything that's future proofed.
Pro doesn't mean "open it up and upgrade it yourself" at all. Pro means performance. A computer to surf the web and look at photos is a very different machine than one rendering 4k footage. My retina Macbook Pro has an SSD with speeds above 1800MB/s. I can't buy an SSD that can do that, and a $3500 raid from G-Technology can only approach 1300MB/s or so. If you are telling me you would rather have an SSD that's user replaceable, it would be 1/4 of the speed too.
For ram, just get the 16GB ram Macbook Pro, or get the iMac with 8GB and pay another $200 to get the 32GB upgrade from OWC. And just realize that if you don't get the SSD then, you won't be able to later (well, not necessarily the case with OWC now).
If you don't like the idea of paying $3,000 for a computer to do professional work on, then I don't know what to say. If it's just a hobby, well hobbies cost money too. But you don't need a professional workhorse for a hobby.

Configuration:
27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display
4GHz Quad-Core i7
8GB ram
1TB Flash Storage
AMD A9 M395X with 4GB
Price: $3499
+ 169 for AppleCare
+ $197 for 32GB ram upgrade kit from OWC
That's $3865. And I would probably buy online at B&H to avoid the sales tax

Utilizing that hardware for a five year period (which should be quite reasonable) would amortize the cost to be about $13.50 per week. Even a freelancer should be able to fit that amount into their budget. (Taxes, tariffs and other consequential costs aside)

If it is true that he has talked to Apple then according to there NDA he is not even allowed to mentioned that he has talked to Apple.

-Ronny and co have shown a fantastic collaboration method with Resolve - so not FCPX related but wow!
-One of the main speakers of Supremeet said all the good things he could about FCPX while showing how he cut the VR show about Paul McCartney (Stephen Duncan)
- I can confirm that Peter Wiggins and Alex Gollner are not robots : they really exist as real humans. Crazy huh?

I can't help but think Apple has a good reason for being this secretive with a industry ground breaking release.
Otherwise potential disappointment, when the time comes, will be devastating.
October (assuming some people are guessing correctly) should be interesting.

I'm in the Raleigh Triangle area, and there are tons of people who tout themselves as FCPX editors, but are so green, I couldn't light them on fire with a blow torch. The huge majority of great editors that can help my shop out are stuck using PP or Avid. They still have horribly wrong conceptions of FCPX in their head.
Courage? How about some courage to help out the folks who have been waving the FCPX flag for the past 5 years, and need some backup?
Fighting the good fight takes a lot out of a 'fella.
