One thing I think is very impressive, is that FCPX's user base is growing in numbers by a great deal. And Apple has not had an official presence on the NAB Show exhibition floor in a really long time. BTW, the current version is "10.2.3", why would you vote for that? And if we're only at 78 days, well, half the releases took a bit longer than that to happen, so not holding my breath.
Based on everything I've seen, heard, and the little I know, I'm going to make the following predictions:
- The next public release will come between now and whenever.
- The next public release will have the bug fixes and new features authorized by Apple higher ups.
- The next public release will be downloaded via the App Store.
- The next public release will make a lot of people happy, and some people not so happy.
I'm crossing my fingers and hoping I'm correct on at least some of my predictions.
Right, so that we should not expect a release, during a month, that is not one of those months, which means, we can expect a release, any month of the year. Usually on a Tuesday, but not always. And sometimes at the end of the month, sometimes at the beginning, and on occasion the middle of a month. Very narrowed down now, got it, thanks.
Why am I hearing John Oliver's voice in my head when I read this back?
I'm hoping, whatever happens, we get an updated version of our three video, maybe all four, of our beloved pro apps. I hope it has some bug fixes in it. I also hope they have some new feature, or an enhancement of an existing feature. And I hope it comes, well, when it is ready to be released. I think I've got that cleared up for myself now.
I think we should have an update sooner...or later! I'm pretty sure is going to be in the next months because we didn't have any in the previous two, so it's clear as water... an update is coming... I'm confident about it.
Wow, I think we're on to something of a breakthrough in FCPX update predictions! HA!
I going out on a limb here, and some of you may call me crazy, but I'm going to guess the next update will be numbered as 10.2.4. Or, and this is a long shot, really insane, I know, but MAYBE it'll be numbered 10.4. Hey, crazier things have happened!
I'm going with 10.3 and reckon we've got another 2 months of waiting. A demo of a significant;y updated FCPX running on V2.0 Mac Pro at WWDC with a release a couple of weeks later.
If we're allowed to make any predictions about what's the the update here's mine:
Nice flat black interface.
Motion is now incorporated into FCPX as a room.
FCPX has a track based Audio editor room.
FCPX has a full 3D environment like Motion and can accept 3d models.
Compressor could've been assimilated too as an Export room.
IMO its time for some new killer features. Simply because Adobe now has (copied?) lot of the unique features of fcpx in Premiere (AE live updating templates, optical flow, internal proxy workflow, ecc.)... Yes, we have skimming, keywords and the speed of magnetic timeline (but lot of people hate it). In my dreams I see Apple and Blackmagic team up making a huge suite with fcpx, resolve, fusion and logic...all connected togheter with a single "send to" command. But, ok, I know its just a dream
I suggested a while back, Apple spending $1 to buy Avid, for all the hardware Avid has, and something missing from the Apple range, nice kit to have.
Apple buying Blackmagic, that would be brilliant, given the new updates in the BM range, would BM sell to Apple? Yeah Resolve+Fusion is pretty powerful, nothing Apple has touches this.
Apple has somehow lost focus, stopped development of something to replace Shake, from what I saw of Shake it was a great app, now Apple has 3 apps, which is confusing me, I know Shake X would not sell in huge numbers, it would sell to those that use that sort of thing. That is my dream, moderators..just a dream...no comments required or expected!!
Just because rountrip between fcpx and resolve is far from perfect. I don't think the price is a problem, it's up to the user to choose one or all the apps. Anyway, I don't want to start a discussion about something impossible. So, just wish for new features/improvements.
Exactly what I mean. Better coop between the two apps. You can choose to buy both or just one. But, being part of the same product family you know that the roundtrip between them will be hopefully perfect. This is what is doing blackmagic with resolve and fusion (plus, both free in their lite version). It would be a dream if we can have this with also fcpx and logic.
I had an option with Final Cut Studio 2, buy the Final Cut express 3.5 HD for way less than Final Cut Studio 2, which I did, I bought Final Cut express 3.5HD, which was a stripped down lite version of Final Cut, basically no 3 way color corrector and few other minor things missing.
As I dream about if I could design the best suite, I would do the same. The problem Apple is now giving apps away with new purchases, to change that would hurt the brand, so maybe with a new suite something along the lines for Final Cut Studio Pro, a suite, more resolve like, more Shake like, maybe more Smoke like, have 2 versions, Final Cut Pro+ Motion+Compressor+Logic for $600 and Final Cut Studio Pro for $1600, companies will buy what they need, the thing with Apple was the upgrade was way cheaper than the buying a new version, so yes the outlay would be pricey to start, but later updates free, so why not??
This is just a thought, about how things are changing, why is Apple not looking at hardware and software? What is wrong with both in the Apple range? Avid does it? Blackmaguc does it, Sony does it?
Apple having a full control of the entire production chain from cameras to editing, to audio, to live production in some way makes a lot of technical sense, that way you are not hampered by equipment manufacturers trying to make their gear fit into the post production pipeline.
My life is:
Shoot on red. Check. Edit natively in fcpx. Check. Go to resolve for grading. Not so good. Go to pro tools/logic for sound design. Not so good. Go to Ae/nuke/fusion for compositing. Not so good.
