And I don´t think their main goal is to dominate the high end post production market.
Shake was very nice (okay perhaps the user experience wasn´t) and it gave us an excellent stabilizer but Apple EOL´d it.
And what I hear the roundtrip between FCPX and Logic doesn´t work too well.
So competition is good. I feel like the whole post production software market including 3D has recently been concentrating too much.

I also do 99% of my audio work in FCPX. Rarely have to go out for anything.
Never have use for AE, Nuke, Fusion... maybe one day if we start doing higher end TV spots, but not now. And with Xsend coming out, wondering if I'd ever have use for anything outside of Motion 5, since I can work with 3D models in it.
Stabilizer in Motion is from Shake (as are some other functions), although slightly watered down. Lock & Load does great for me.
Round trip between LPX and FCPX is good, if you're not doing anything to long or too complex. But for most nominal Timelines, it works pretty good now.

I actually meant that Shake gave us - in terms of us FCPX users - the great stabilizer.
The best I have used besides mocha.
It would be nice to be able to tweak the settings before analyzing is finished, though.

I love Color Finale! My "one man band" workflow is similar to yours. But, when i'm relating with other post houses I have to deal with sound designers working with logic or protools, colourists working with Resolve (they can achieve things impossible to do with color finale, trust me), and motion designers working mainly with After Affects. Now my workflows are not that bad, but there are often details in translations between apps that are really annoying (x2pro doesn't translate audio retiming, Clip exporter precompose retimed FCPX clip, Resolve incapsulate retimed clips so that you can't access metadata settings for red raw clips, etc...). Luckily they understand that with fcpx I'm working way faster than with the other NLE, so, for now, I'm safe

I hope CF can bring the specialist curves to FCPX in the future. Until then I have having been creating looks in Resolve using the curves and exporting them as LUTs and bringing them into CF.
Talking of LUTs I wonder how many people are aware of LUT Calc? cameramanben.github.io/LUTCalc/
You can buy in the Mac Appstore for the price of a beer and also in the Chrome store and there is a free web version.
I have found LUTCalc invaluable in creating all manor of Camera LUTs and Look LUTS for my post production workflow. You can also use it to analyse LUTs that you may have bought and strip out the colour information i.e. the gamut of the LUT and slap it onto a custom gamma curve of your own.
I see the Suite of software as a bit of an anachronism which harks back to a past where memory was too expensive to fill your machine up will. I'd like to see FCPX assimilate Motion and while it's at it assimilate Compressor too. I find the lack of tracker and the fact you still can't publish every Motion feature a chinese wall that doesn't need to be there.
I was told many years ago that Apple needed Shake to attract high end users but it became clear that it needed a fundamental rewrite to benefit from modern architecture and this coincided with the development of NUKE. The numbers of high end compositing seats world wide can be measured in their thousands so it would've been a huge investment for a poor return so instead the IP from Shake and Silicon Grail Chalice have been rolled into the current Apps.
Rather than Apple buy companies I think it's more likely that we'll see the ecosystem around FCPX produce workflows that enable exports to and from the likes of Fusion and NUKE. I'd certainly be up for a Send To Fusion plugin.

You're going to love Color Finale Pro. It's going to open a whole new universe for FCPX users.

Can you elaborate?
I got the email from Denver but it made no reference to features like custom curves like those in Resolve. ACES workflow will be good, so too still store and groups but those lovely Resolve curves are not mentioned.
Color Management System with ACES
- HDR grading
- Digital cinema delivery
- Tangent control surface support
(including NEW "Ripple" panel)
- Group grading
- Grading gallery (still store)

I could only see Apple mentioning FCPX in passing as an example of an application that fully utilises Metal on a brand new Mac Pro which shows unbelievable performance. I think it's highly unlikely they'd bother, not because they're not interested, but because they've got bigger fish to fry.
Like it or not WWDC Keynote is predominantly about iPhones and iOS/MacOS not an anachronism like the Mac Pro.

BenB wrote: Color Finale currently has curves, so of course it isn't an added feature.
But CF doesn't have the hue vs hue, sat vs sat and lum vs sat curves etc which are where a great deal of power and subtlety are made possible. I was hoping CFP would get them.

Yeah, selective hue and saturation curves are a big missing feature in color finale. Vectors are great but limited to small adjustments. Having just one master saturation slider is often a limitation. Maybe we can ask Denver if he's planning something to expand the toolset.

he says ..
Even Apple, though not updating Final Cut just before NAB as they have the last two years, was showing a major new feature under NDA in private meetings. (When Apple lets me talk about this, I’ll share it with you.)
highlight by me.
'A' new feature, not 'dozens of jawbreaking new...", …
so, for those of you Kabbalists, expecting a 10.3update, probably not. Or, lots of 'under the hood' improvements, allowing a new .x digit.
So, from everybodies Top100 - what would be that ONE 'new' feature...?
And what outcry, if it isn't your #1?
PS: just me, or does Larry over-complicate that HDR topic?
4k + rec2020 + thousands of nits = HDR, ... or too simnple thought?
And is he right, FCPX does HDR only in proxy mode??

Now what is HD? UHD? My head hurts, interlaced, progressive scan, HDR, Luts, NUFS, it is become insane, what is the right frame size, pixel depth, I am so confused, containers, wrappers, milk came in containers, chocolate in wrappers, manuals written in a sort of english I vaguely comprehend, and I am English!!!
I was taught about lux, what is a nit? Is that more than a lux, less than a lux? equal to a lux, wikipedia is so full of technical I only understand the header-wikipedia, beyond that..help!!
Technology is great, at some point even 5 yr olds are going to get confused, and when that happens, the planet is doomed..What is the rush?

No outcry from me, I'm pretty happy with the way FCPX is developing and wouldn't go back to Avid if you paid me.
Nits? We used to have a nit nurse at school...shudders.
