I'm in the middle of an audio mix for a short at the mo. Love to get my hands on any new audio mixing features that might be coming. Screening is end of Oct so don't think I can wait for 10.3

I've been roundtripping to Resolve for grading which seems to be working fine and I've just bought Logic Pro X so I'm planning on doing my sound mix in that - need to work out how to best use roles first. I had Logic 9 and I've done a couple of days Lynda training on X so should be fine...next year the plan is to raise some funds for future shorts so I don't end up being this guy again:
Famous last words, of course...

In his ProTools session, it looked like he had arranged some "zones" for lack of a better word. he would take a recorded clip, drop it into an effect zone and the clip would inherit the delays, autotune, etc. Based off of whether the vocal was a lead, background, ad lib, harmony, etc. he would move the clip to different zones.
I know we have mentioned using adjustment layers for varied features and effects. But I was thinking just like with the role based mixer we could have a role based effect layer. I Think I might have read someone mention it earlier. I was thinking just like how we assign a role or subrole to a clip, you could have a list of effects already dialed in. For Example with Neat Video, you could generate the noise profile on one clip and have the reduce noise effect applied to a subrole. Every other clip assigned would automatically get the effect and settings applied. Maybe a slight delay and compressor to dialog. a LUT and vignette to B-Roll.
It'd be like doing a copy and paste effects to all other items in the role. I generally feel like the roles capability is still vastly underused. If I had the option to code for the FCPX team, its the area I would love to just have fun with and experiment.

I was thinking that exact thing. I suppose a visual mixer could edit targeted roles together, but I was thinking a role could have video or audio effects applied that would ripple everywhere. This would leave the copy/paste of effects behind. As long as you could adjust effects on a role and those changes were updated everywhere.
In Resolve, you can have a group grade. I'm thinking role effects could be like this. When you apply an effect on a particular clip, it sat on top of the role effect it was inheriting. So the role can give a base grade, but then clips you need to tweak can inherit the base grade and then your tweak. I'm sure the inspector window would show the role more clearly that it was tied to.

I can only speculate
I would like to see Final Cut Pro X mobile module to edit footage that is in cloud as a proxy using the iPad Pro. Just for editing that would be awesome. :silly:

For this new release, do you have any guesses as to what their marketing department will choose to help plant the flag here?
Perhaps some element to help to differentiate it from other NLEs?
I've heard Tim Cook talk a lot about the potential of VR...and I'm wondering if this new release of FCPX may contain some element of that, although I realize Tim Dashwood's plug-ins are certainly really helpful at this time.
We all have our deep list of features/improvements we want to see, but from a strictly Apple marketing point of view, I wonder what element they will focus on to create some buzz on this newest release.

4D text.
Maybe even 5 point editing.
Knowing apple, they might even remove the '.' from 7.1 audio, giving us true 71 audio.

I know 10.3 beta is out in the wild for certain, with new features and a major update.. I've been told its quite impressive from an experienced editor. He hasn't elaborated further, but it was very impressive by his standards. Hopefully it drops soon as we have the new OSX now..

Then Apple went away and cried a bit, and introduced 10.1.0, and everyone was happy, then along came 10.2 and everyone was so so happy, 3D text, and so much more...
NOW Everyone is not so happy, "what is wrong people say?" "..Damn Apple broke FCPX, nearly a year we cry for an update", and we are happy when a New OS is launched, it was this that broke FCPX...
When is 10.3, when is 11...who knows.. Will there be be new shiny gear, new roles based audio mixer? One can only speculate, someone knows and gosh I wish I knew...I hate having 3rd degree FOMO!!!
