Adobe press event is live for those interested-
creativecloud.adobeevents.com/ccnext/?sdid=KLUAV though seemingly most Video related announcements were out of the bag at NAB. Apple should really do these. I think their worry is that if they do too many "Events" in a year it will dilute the marketing value of them- but Apple PR should be able to manage the media to know the difference between a "Consumer Facing" event and a small-scale "Pro" introduction. |

I agree. I think Apple should do Pro Apps events assuming they feel the market is worth targeting. Controlled Presentations with clear examples would go along way to clear up FUD in the "pro" market. It's clear "word of mouth" through social media has very poor control over Apple's "message."
Personally I think the weakest aspect to FCPX (and the Pro Apps generally) is Apple's marketing. |

With the latest version of Yosemite for developers I could se at the very bottom of known issues: iMovie and Final Cut Pro X will not work with Developer Preview. Now I am in pessimistic mood. Is it possible that Apple will abandon FPX for good ?

Many, MANY things don't work in developer betas at this stage. The fix will come thru a combination of new OSX betas, FCP X updates, or likely both. Your concerns are unfounded.

Apple did have a suite at the Wynn during NAB where they did several presentations each day. You had to be invited, but I spoke with several people who attended, some were invited just by asking around.
Apple has officially committed to FCP X for a ten year development cycle, the same as legacy. 1.0 came out in 1999, then 7.0 was the last hurrah in 2009. Adobe only makes software, their profits depend on CC subscribers. Apple sells a computer that when maxed out costs $9600 and practically gives all the 'pro' apps away for next to nothing. Why market the software that pretty much is the marketing for your hardware? |

I guess it depends on what sort of individual goals Apple has for the software. Why do they make it?
Purely as a driver to sell hardware? Wouldn't strong relationships with Adobe and Avid do that just as well? Long ago the fear was that due to it's small marketshare, leading companies would abandon the Mac. Develop ideas and technologies that are boiled down into the more consumer-facing iMovie? Part of a larger end-to-end media production/delivery master plan? Make sure they have a hand in driving media tools and codecs? The prestige of being "the creative company" that making making products like Logic and FCP bring? Maybe a mixture of all of these things to varying degrees. One would hope that one of those though is to make a product that stands on it's own merits. That's where I think more targeted marketing may be valuable. |

I agree it's a mixture.
FCP X is the only edit system that exclusively runs only on a mac. In that way it does stand on it's own merits, if you want to edit using FCP X, you have to buy a mac. Apple's "Control the whole user experience" mantra makes sense here. If there wasn't an "Appleized" version of a pro app, they would just be selling pretty machines. The main reason I personally want a nMP is because of FCP X, so at least in my case, they will be getting my money soon. |

When was the last time Imovie was updated? Could FCPX and iMovie be developed by the same team?

The iMovie update came out just before 10.1 did.
Alex4D (AKA Super Genius) did an interesting blog post about how they share the same code base. alex4d.com/notes/item/imovie-2013-and-final-cut-pro-x-10-1 |

FCPX 10.1.2 PRE-RELEASE DISCUSSION 19 Jun 2014 02:11 #48111
Has anyone realized that this Saturday, July 21, 2014 will be FCPX's 3rd birthday? I may break my diet and buy some cake and ice cream, new release or not. I just love editing with this app as is, and know it will only get better over the next 9 years.
Next release? Eh, whatever, we have 7 more years of releases coming. I don't get excited until it is actually here, and then I move on. There is a system in place, it works, and it surrounds the paradigm of releasing it when it is ready, not when folks simply "want it". Often even the developers don't know the release date until the last minute. But, we do know a new release is coming. I see no reason to expect anything besides what we've been seeing. No huge, special, paid for update. Just my speculation. Personally, as I've said before, I don't worry about it. Too much work to do. It will get here when it gets here, and it'll be fun on that day. Until then, eh, whatever... |

Agreed. But I must respectfully correct you. I think it's more like 7 more years of updates. |

FCPX 10.1.2 PRE-RELEASE DISCUSSION 19 Jun 2014 06:06 #48120
![]() ![]() I watched a video as a result of a tweet sent by Alex4D, in which he was helping someone edit, in the audio it is clear that the user was brand new to editing, and had made a number of mistakes, one comment during the almost 2 hour vimeo video really struck me as something I think many of us just assume and move on. In the video the user said, " I should have saved the timeline or something yesterday..." It suddenly struck me that 2 things I never thought of, and I have not seen much discussion on this... Library backups and more to the point, Automatic User Preset SAVE AS SNAPSHOT How do I find the library backup as mentioned in the user preference? 2nd..How useful would automatic SAVE AS SNAPSHOT be?? I do not want to start FCP X world war 3, but as a new user, I am sure this has happened, you have lost work, swore loudly, maybe even broken something, cursed a few living and past living Apple staff... Why not have some sort of non human based automatic saving?? |

If there was an automated save as Snapshot that would be the first thing I'd switch off. As your Libraries are backed up every 15 minutes and if you back up your system (as you should) at least once a day then there should be no issues in recovering a long lost version of an edit.
I much prefer to do a manual snapshot just befor I veer off on an new tangent, just in case. On another note: Here is a great example of why no matter what happens with FCP X it will always be my favourite NLE. This from the wonderful world of AVID. ARRRRGGGHHHH it's doing my head in. Yup. The way things seem to be working now, iMovie is now a rewrapped version of FCP X. How often the version of X that's underneath iMovie is updated we don't know. Has iMovie been updated since last October? If so, has anyone dug into it to see if the embedded version of X has changed? |

I've seen FCPX (and Premiere for that matter) timelines look the same or worse. |

FCPX 10.1.2 PRE-RELEASE DISCUSSION 19 Jun 2014 16:50 #48161
Although iMovie 2013 came out first, it looks as if it was built on the then as yet unreleased Final Cut Pro X 10.1.
The question is: iMovie was updated on April 10. iMovie is Final Cut Pro X with a different UI, so is there any Final Cut Pro 10.1.2 stuff already in iMovie? I haven't looked yet, I'll get back to you all soon! @Alex4D |
