FCPX 10.1.2 PRE-RELEASE DISCUSSION 24 Jun 2014 10:19 #48353
I am working through Brendan Boykins new FCP X book, page 243, I need to place a marker on the audio track, the music track, when I try and place a marker, it places the marker on one of the video tracks above, this is what I mean, half-arsed and frustrating, sorry, half-arsed is a North English term meaning why did you bother!!!
How do I place a marker on the Primary storyline if there is video in secondary storylines above???? OK, problem solved, no thanks to terrible writing by Brendan, and even worse use of screen grab, the only way was to highlight in yellow, which is not said or shown in the screen grab...How did Brendan place a marker on the primary storyline, whilst in solo mode without the yellow highlight box??? |

As Tom has said twice, you select the clip, then hit M
for adding a marker. If you need to adjust the position of the dot from its default position on the top layer, as you're suggesting, you're having to make a user action anyway- so having to select the clip Is no more work. The point of the white dot is without user input to have selected what you probably want to adjust 70-90% of the time anyway. Now, PLEASE, do not use this thread for general questions. It's pretty early to be calling it a wash. The day hasn't even started on the West Coast. Previous feature updates have been released between 3:30am-11:30am Pacific.

Only one update has been released before 5am Pacific, and that was 10.1.
For fun- 10.0.0- 6am 10.0.1- 8am 10.0.3- 5:30am 10.0.6- 11:30am 10.1- 3:30am these are the closest approximates I could find when doing searches on twitter. Alex4D is the first to post a surprising amount of the time... ![]() |

Well, they charge for significant updates on all their other apps (Logic for example). FCPX is the abnormality in that regard. If they decided to change that forever for FCPX, great, but I doubt that. I think we've gone this long without paying for updates because of the backlash the original version. |

There's also the lack of an upgrade mechanism in the App Store. Others get around it by putting updates in a web site or by adding it as an in app purchase.

LogicPro 9 to LogicPro X was the same kind of shift as FCP 7 to FCP X, the only difference is that FCP7 was never for sale on the appStore- so the charge to upgrade made sense. The existing Aperture is a straight migration (although updated) from it's pre-appStore version. So I would expect the next "major" version of Aperture (presumably Aperture X) to be paid as well. Until there is another major version of Logic X, or FCP X, there's no precedent for how a "new version" will be commoditized. |

Today's release of Resolve 11 Beta 1 includes multi-user project work: While an editor edits, an assistant can work on clip metadata while a colourist works on grading.
Deep inside the app though: It can read and write Final Cut Pro X XML version 1.4 - the current version known to developers is version 1.3. @Alex4D |

A bump to the XML would line up nicely with Richard Taylor's "Happy Birthday FCPX" item of improved XML import/export.

It's funny. If you check blackmagic's home page, the guy in the front is using DaVinci Resolve, the guy in the back -with a laptop- is using Final Cut Pro X, maybe 10.1.2. who knows?

Well, you have completely missed how apple is doing it since introducing the App Store. They lowered the price for their apps for new customers to the same amount upgrades used to cost, then you pay that sum again when you upgrade. They've been doing this for years now. There are no special upgrade prices, but the apps are now dirt cheap so you pay the same price again when decide to charge again for an update. If they've now decided that their apps are a pay once for lifetime (or something really huge happens) updates, I'd be surprised but happy ![]() And as I said in my original post, just playing devil's advocate here, not really arguing FOR paid upgrades. I just think it could very well be a possibility at the next bigger update. Maybe that's not now. Maybe we'll see a 10.1.2 and then something bigger coinciding with Yosemite. |

The clock ticks. It's now 8:30am PDT which is later than 4 of the 5 release times in your list.

To the best of my knowledge Apple has never done that for an existing App Store application.
