That is what I have been maintaining, yet the local istore here says it is functional, which it is, it works, just poorly, the istore claim it is a function of FCP X, "Wait for the update...you have ayear in which to replace the machine if it is broken!".

My previous macbook pro, from 2006 was better than this hunk of junk 2013 model.

At least double your RAM to do anything with FCP. Use a separate media drive with Thunderbolt or USB3.

Then my point is even more than valid, Apple sell underpowered devices, if FCP X does not work on 2013 rMBP with 4g RAM, then do not sell it with 4g RAM, If I had to buy a decent laptop to run FCP, I would not have bought this model. At least not now, I would have waited a couple more years saving up...

The 2013 rMBP 13 inch model does not handle FCP X in any shape, manner or form. A huge waste of time.

I cannot afford at this point to upgrade the RAM.

You really should have done the research ahead of time. It has always been clear that FCPX requires a lot of ram. They didn't create the 13" rmbp for fcpx, I'm sure. i personally wouldn't ever even think about editing on such a small screen. my 2012 15" rMBP on the other hand edits awesomely.

That's a little unfair. Video editing is one of the hardest tasks for any machine. FCPX worked fine with 4GB or ram on an older machine. Slower, yes. But worked all the same.

Looks fake, all image hoaxers, take note, Apple won't label it 10.1.0, it will be 10.1,

They don't like to end in zeros on product displays and marketing materials. Unless it's 10.0 which is what fcpx was when it launched.

And the screenshot casually neglects it's pricing. Silly attempt.

Actually I tested the MBPr 13 at the apple store last week with some projects and it worked just fine. It had intel "iris pro" gpu, which is no speed demon, but works quite well. It did the BruceX benchmark in a little under 3 minutes. I loaded up a large HDV project which again it handled without a problem.

Regarding peachpit tutorial samples (I have all that footage), something else is wrong. Every Mac I have loaded fcpx on has been able to play that tutorial footage. Even a 2007 MacBook Pro with 2gb of ram (which is unqualified for fcpx). My assistant editor was working on a 2007 iMac with 4gb of ram with 1080p h264 footage over gigabit Ethernet just fine.

I would highly recommend that you take that machine back to the Apple store and see what they can do. If you told them you were using fcpx and they recommended a machine with just 4gb of ram... Well something is wrong there.

Also based on your posts it seems that you have had all sorts of trouble with fcp. I would recommend perhaps getting some training - ripple training or Larry Jordan for example - maybe even finding a fcpx class at a community college or university. Also feel free to start other threads since this is really just a bunch of us posting as we await anxiously the release of 10.1. ;)

As many others here have said, your assertion is that Apple should only sell computers which can run the highest end software, which is silly. Many people who buy a rMBP will be using it for basic computing, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.. Beyond the stated specs, it's incumbent on you the purchaser to do your research and find out what the best machine is for your needs.

I'll tell you right now, 10.1 will not solve your problem. It many be comparatively be asking MORE from your machine that the current version, and minimum required specs may actually be higher.

If you're not getting the performance you want out of the rMBP, and you cannot nail it down to a configuration problem (and again- if you're running media off your internal HD or a USB2 drive, that's definitely part of your problem)- then I would suggest returning it and perhaps buying a higher spec'd MacMini- where you can invest more in the internals and you're not paying for portability and the Retina screen.

But beyond this- I think this discussion should be moved OUTSIDE of the 10.1 pre-release thread. There's enough going on in this thread as it is.

I'm sorry but that's ridiculous. Apple doesn't sell the 13" MBP only to video production users. 4G RAM is adequate for most purposes. It's barely adequate for FCP.

Or your hopes where broken that there is no update! There have been many "fake silly screenshot" that turned out to be real.

I find it silly that people are waiting for a update like Santa Claus on Christmas. We know how long that can take to see Santa.

The holiday season is so important to Apple's financial performance that is some respects it makes (business and marketing) sense that they might delay releasing the products until the latest date possible. That is to avoid stepping on their messaging which, of course is iPad Air & Mini, and iPhones. Not that it makes me happy, mind you, but it would deb an understandable timing decision.

I don't think releasing the Mac Pro and a software update will dilute their marketing message. Whether it's this week or after Xmas they will just become available with no song and dance. The tech press will go crazy of course but little Johnny's Mum shopping for an iPad isn't going to be any the wiser.

I don't think there's any chance of messaging confusion here. FCPX and the MacPro are very targeted products for a select set of Apple's customer base- and won't conflict with the general Holiday marketing.

Personally I would have hoped Apple would be taking pre-orders so I can have the bill (even if not the computer) by the end of the year for USA tax purposes.
