FCP X is by far the most popular professional editing platform on the Mac right now. Plus there is a 10-year roadmap and we are only in year 5. So I think we can safely say that "killed" will not be an option for a long time coming.

Apple has not killed FCP classic either, so killing off apps such as FCP is not something Apple does. The fact classic FCP works on Sierra is almost proof positive Final Cut Pro X, is going to remain a viable product for at least 10 more years!!
Hopefully!!!

It is uncharacteristic of me to be so negative. I was just recalling my years from v1 of Final Cut through to the investment in Studio and shake and color and gear and paying for my Pro certifications etc., etc now don't get me wrong stuff changes and builds and for a longtime I loved FCPX, then the basic Mac specs changed and I was looking at redundant hardware too. With the recession and a shrinking (keeping it in-house now) client base, keeping up with Apple became a no-no for purely living and eating reasons:) I have been absent from this forum for two years and I'm dipping my toes back in and it would be great to just see the product becoming better without an upheaval but in terms of delivering to customers, Apple (with their fiscal and marketing clout) really could take a leaf out of BlackMagic's book with regard to how they democratised Resolve and invested in development and ongoing incremental upgrades. I will now don my hopeful hat and get off my high horse:)

wow, I really should start using full stops and sentences...

I have to agree with Lee Patterson, and my views have been shared before, many have disagreed, but Lee does raise a very great point, we have made investments into products, and Final Cut Studio was a huge investment, and only a short period later, it was "killed" or left in a state that was mid upgrade, 7.0.3 an odd point to stop upgrading at.

I have paid for certification, that basically is useless, the exam any idiot after 2 hours could pass. Yes the markets are shrinking as editing becomes easier, we are seen as less professional as a result.

Sadly audio is seen as the favorite daughter, and video a hated younger sibling, Logic gets all the love, and Final Cut, well not so much..

Why Apple has this attitude of we will ban "roadshows" if you talk about upcoming features, when you can say what you like about the operating systems for hardware..A bit backward there Apple...

Updates should be frequent, and once a year, a major event planned and new ideas put forward..but sadly not the case.. There will be an update, and it will please some, and upset others...

Nothing wrong with what you say, Lee. I know you are a great guy and I am happy to see you back here.

All I can say is that Final Cut Pro has evolved a lot in the past two years, and the FCP community is stronger than ever before. Just look at all the events that are being organized around FCP X all over the world now. Next week's FCPX Tour in Barcelona was completely sold out in only 2 days, and it takes place in one of the largest film shools in Spain... where they only teach FCP X for editing! Who could have predicted this 2 years ago?

So I would advise you to try out the new version when it gets released, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

This is a stupid comment... the Audio guys say the opposite.
Why don't you do some research and compare the release notes with both Apps before adding fault statements?

With over 5 million (est) copies sold, at $300 a pop, Apple has made over $300 million dollars. Why would they go to a subscription model? That would mean a MAJOR overhaul to the App Store, which I highly doubt we're going to see. Not gonna happen, ever, not with Apple. Even having their lowest profit year in over a decade, they're STILL the most profitable company in the world. There's a bigger picture here. FCPX is not a loss-leader, it is a profitable endeavor. Just because Lexus sells overwhelmingly more SUVs than Sport Coupes, I highly doubt they're going to stop making Spot Coupes.

True, LPX has had many more improvements and new features than FCPX over the past year. But it always was like that. In no way is there any factual evidence to say "...nd video a hated younger sibling," That is simply and insult to the very enthusiastic and dedicated FCPX dev team. Shame for making that unfounded statement.

You're right, they did, and FCPX is still not on a subscription plan. There you have it.

Actually from my personal perspective today it´s far more interesting what the updated hardware will tell us about the future of FCPX ie. Mac Pros and iMacs but of course also the expected Notebooks.
There will be an update to FCPX one day and possibly (hopefully) incremental.
And then then there will be another update and another and ano....
