THANK YOU, Dave, missed that outer-rim.
Interesting observation:
as you can see, these … folders are localized!
With the same terminology as FCPX …
Usually, 'interna' are in English; only stuff showed in the UI is localized.
Looks like, some future version will add 3rd party plug-ins - YIPPIEH! :woohoo:

Hi Tom, I never said it was new. I was just letting Ronny know that Voiceover Recording was present when he thought it wasn't. Agree with you on the speed and modern codecs. I can see iMovie being used for quick/small edits for amateur news/sports.

This looks like the new FCPX. No Project Library button in the timeline.
No rounded corners anymore.
Aside from that, it doesn't look that different.
Where did you find this photo?
Nevermind, I found it on Apple's site.

There's been some debate about whether it's actually any different (outside of the missing Timeline Index button in the lower left). While the icons look more square, that could just be a product of the interface on this high a resolution display.
But for varying reasons, I'm now thinking it is legit, and that everything that's been changed is just not visible in this image- since just about all windows have been hidden. This is just about the most basic view of the FCPX interface you can get.

ronny courtens wrote: Correct, Tom. Used ranges were already in iMovie 11.
But the app has changed enormously under the hood. I wouldn't have touched 11 with a pole stick for any serious work. Since I have been playing around with iMovie X I now have a totally different opinion about this app. Its speed and ease of use have grown exponentially now it's 64-bit and working on AV/Foundation, even on slower systems. I think that alone is a significant change. Plus it works with Motion templates the same as FCPX, which will make it fully compatible with X. That's an important change as well.

Please forgive me if this is a bit off topic but this brings me to an old question/problem which MAY have been solved with iMovie 10.0 (if the code base is the same as in FCP). I have seen posts that iMovie has NOT been able to handle DV video without loss of quality after version 6 (wihtout special trics as in "iMovie Output Project" featuring Mr. Schlüter...). Apparently FCP has never had this problem. So my question is: can iMovie 10.0 give me an easy one stop shop to import and edit DV (I still have the tapes) or not? (I am thinking of buying my first Macbook Pro and just need simple editing and do not want to budget an extra 270€ and have a steep learning curve to finally manage lots of old tapes...). Any chance anyone could make a quick test? Thank you

Tom, Could you elaborate? What codecs can it now work with?

I'm not Tom, but finally, after 4y, iMovie supports AVCHD v2.
1080/50p from my Panasonic - no problem.
… it was a joke, all the years, consumer cameras go 50, 60, 120p (counting GoPros as 'consumer' devices
Imagine all those 'phone photographers', coming along with 720/120 - and iM wouldn't swallow that!

Larry Jordan has rescheduled his FCPX 4K seminar from mid November to mid January, based on the December release of both the MacPro and 10.1.
After the release date for both products was announced last week, I honestly wondered what the point of having that seminar would be. And I guess the answer is that Larry honestly thought we'd see both those products ship before Nov 15th.

Just to add, if you have pro codecs installed, the QTX player now converts some codecs to ProRes for playback. Also the QTX player finally supports JKL.

when proRes was installed, iM09 imported it too ...
what I can not find in iMX: no transcoded files whatsoever!
in the Event pkg, I notice only a Original Media Folder
