Oh my word! As an ex Shake guy, and a current Nuke artist, this is potentially the most exciting news I've read for years!!!

awesome finds, Alex, chapeau!

That Mica thingie is a bit disturbing:
• "It seems that Mica documents also work in iOS" - this indicates for me => consumer range
• "that was the code name of Shake/Motion combo" - this indicates nodes, compositing, 3D (yeah! ;) ) => pro range

… and the mentioning of QuartzComposer let this ol' chime ring:
www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/news/932-will-t...ro-7-and-its-plugins

… which announces the EOL of QC - your finds foresee a shiny new future for that tool.... ??

... I LOVE speculations .............. :silly:

I think Apple has given us a subtle hint about companion pro apps.

It's funny to see this:

and then this:

The subtly is so great that I missed it. I don't see what is missing. Here is my logic:

Garage Band -> Pro = Logic
iMovie -> Pro = FCP
iPhoto -> Pro = Aperture
Pages - no pro version needed
Numbers - again no pro version needed
Keynote - already pretty pro
Safari - already pro?

Now, since we used Pages, Numbers and Keynote to do professional work, should it now be considered Pro Apps?

;)

So I'm sitting here looking at the Pro Apps section wondering what this hint could be.. Then it hit me. Wow. I can't remember, but were both Motion and Compressor featured in the Pro Apps area? I know Motion was so this hint is still valid, however, they could be viewing Motion as more of a companion app, instead of a full-fledged application. I'm still blown away by those tweets.

Motion
www.apple.com/finalcutpro/motion/

Compressor
www.apple.com/finalcutpro/compressor/

Found at the bottom of this page
www.apple.com/finalcutpro/

It's reasonable to guess that Apple doesn't consider them "stand alone" in that one would only purchase in addition to FCPX.

You missed my point. I'm only pointing out the empty spaces that may soon be occupied by a new version of Motion and maybe a yet unannounced app. Nothing relating to the consumer apps, sorry for the confusion,

It's a pity Motion never broke out as a motion graphics application. It certainly stands on its own for animation. I used to use Motion projects as layers in After Effects compositions. Sadly that feature broke with a QuickTime update. Despite that, Motion should be seen as a useful companion to AE users even now.

I describe it as 75% of Adobe After Effects for much less money plus much more powerful real-time features.

It could have been the Adobe InDesign to Quark XPress - eventually taking over an entrenched market with better features and a more modern UI. Motion Graphics people didn't see the advantage in moving on from the keyframe metaphor and embracing Behaviors.

As regards its future, I don't think it would be a good idea for Final Cut to gain all the Motion features.

Motion's lack of greater success wasn't that it didn't manage to make motion graphics 'so easy an editor can do it.' Most editors chose to be editors; i,e. they don't want to be motion graphics designers.

I'm a long time After Effects user. Great app. But for some things, Motion just excels. Here is a project where I needed some simple simulations. I did with graphics drawn on an iPad, made into layers in Photoshop and animated with behaviors in Motion (and of course everything else in Final Cut Pro). Would have taken forever in After Effects (I tried.)

(There is a little mistake on the butterfly wing that needs some fixing. These are not out for broadcast yet.)

Motion is really a great application and I really enjoy working in it! But it just feels old incomplete. There is so much missing in Motion really game player for 90% of the projects I work. From 3D tracking (there is 3D space), paint and clone tools and etc. Motion deserves more as interface update.

Thanks to Alex we see there is a lot going on behind the curtains. Apps like iMovie and FCPX are related very much underneath and Apple is playing their cards very closely.

It is clear that Apple is trying to cross-relate their platforms for not only ease but also function.

There is more coming. Have you noticed how the Garageband icon in iOS 7 is new and the GB icon in Mavericks is still old. I bet this will change again for some reason soon.

Apple updated it's "In Action" Final Cut Pro X page last week and I noticed this photo:

Looks like it could be FCPX 10.1 and the new Mac Pro under the desk...

Apple simplified their Final Cut Server Resources page yesterday.

They dropped the following sections:

Pro Application Online Help Library
AppleCare Help Desk support
AppleCare OS Support
Apple Pro Training
Apple Consultants Network
Independent Apple Value Added Resellers

Hopefully because they are replacing some of those areas with something else.

www.apple.com/finalcutpro/in-action/azteca/

It's in the gallery section on the right side of the page. It's also interesting that Apple doesn't list the equipment list on this one as they do for all of the other articles.

Being the pessimist I am it looks more like a death kneel. You've got Help pages, discussions, and you're on your own. No more Apple certified pro trainers, the certification, as so many, has died. Should have added after it. Good luck. Thanks for purchasing Final Cut Server.

Well... I think the death knell was in 2011 when it was EOL'd. ;-) Also, it's entirely based on QT Frameworks which, as of 10.9, are also officially EOL. So yeah... dead. But... a lot of the X metadata stuff does seem to have come from FCS, and the possibility of a new, iMovie-hinted organizational structure is pretty interesting. So who knows what Apple are cooking up?
