To replace my rMBP or to not replace my rMBP... that is the question.

I think the price is absolutely fair. Also, we're forgetting what Mavericks has to offer when talking about RAM and memory processing. OS X was fundamentally built around taking advantage of hardware specific features. So while some may say, well, you might as well build a computer with Windows on it, you're forgetting that Apple hardware and software are specifically designed to take full advantage of one another. I don't want to start a Hackintosh debate! :pinch:

Confused by the 3&4k base prices for the Mac Pro with 4 or 6 cores, and all the talk of it being up to 12 cores...but no pricing?

Knowing Apple and there iPhone politics, I would say no.

Well at least Apple is not leaving us out in the dark:

"Final Cut Pro X. Now optimized for Mac Pro.
The new version of Final Cut Pro X (coming in December) has been engineered to take advantage of the 4K capabilities of the Mac Pro. "

Interesting a new type of install a "FREE Upgrade" in the Mac App Store. I haven't seen wording on a button before.

"Back to work" Ha! Me too! it would have been tougher to get back to being productive if new FCPX had been released today.

Looking at that image- it's nigh impossible to say if the interface is different. Event manager is hidden, and all the tabs are minimized. Very little to go on.

Indeed. I would have have updated it on a test machine and then lost a couple of days work messing with it.

We should thank Apple for not releasing the update today. ;)

@pollux § fcpguy:

The new version of FCPX will absolutely work with current MPs with dual GPUs.

Software included ... not FCPX.
My prediction (too lazy to find the link here) was wrong ...
(ok, the 12core isn't listed yet ... 5% chance left ...)

Phil doesn't listen to me ... boohoooo :(

Hey Karsten,

Phil does listen to you.

You wrote: "As the ex-iMovie guy here… iMovie is overdue to an update. Last version is four years old!"

Well, now you have what you wished for :P

It was stated the "Tube" will come in "quad, 6, 8 and 12 core" configurations.

Now we can all relax, get back to work, and wait another month and a half.

har har …

not avail at AppStore (here...)
The screen-shots on the website www.apple.com/mac/imovie/ show something interesting:

no timeline at all!
looks like a slideshow-maker!
no NLE-feeling ...
… doesn't look like 'editing' anyhow!
just 'fill in your pics here!' ...

if iMovie08 was a new, reduced UI; it is now even 'reducered' ...

… but NOTHING from my wish-list mentioned:
supported formats aka AVCHDv2?
(a must)
internal still AIC? or prores-for-all?
(we'll see)
3rd party plugins/addons?
(not so ... )

naw, my iMovie days are over … FCPX is soooo much more fun (plus Motion)

and lucky me: 2 months more to safe some money ...........
