As the ex-iMovie guy here … :
iMovie is overdue to an update.
Last version is four years old!

When iM08 appeared, and was an early alpha-demo of the forthcoming FCPX interface, two years later, every critic spoke about 'iMovie on steroids'.

Meanwhile, it is time, iM should learn a few tricks from its little big brother:
• iMovie still doesn't support AVCHD v2 (1080/60p, keyword 'action-cams' etc)
• no support for plug-ins, 3rd party themes, etc
• still using AppleIntermediate, invented 10y (!) ago to manage HDV…

actual camera support, adopting proRes as 'master'-codec and support of add-ons (imagine baseball-themes, wedding-themes, memorial-themes) - and some 'free' iDVD (consumer still want disks! … not me … but the rest of the family)

… to keep you, Makki, calm:
iLife was updated traditionally in February ... :P

(… missing the holiday-sales … so, maybe … )

See, this has always been my argument when people call FCPX iMovie pro. Obviously Apple knew they were making FCPX when they released the 08 version of iMovie, they probably knew they were working on FCPX for a long time before that. Of course FCPX is like iMovie pro because they were using iMovie to test out their ideas like the magnetic timeline, filmstrip view, and probably a ton of other stuff.

But it's the only place where people understand me! I can't even go on Reddit to talk about this in the editors section without having to defend FCPX, but I do enjoy that, but it's not like logical arguments work.

And talk about "pro" NLE? I just learned that if you import 120fps GoPro footage into Media Composer, it just dumps out the extra frames and turns it into 24 or 30 fps... You have to conform it in an external program...

... Meanwhile, people are complaining about having to use x2pro, 7tox, and everything else, so yeah, rational arguments are no good there.

Anyway, back to the anticipation of what we all hope tomorrow brings... Please please please... 10.1!

Edit: okay, speaking of editors on Reddit, here's their megathread monday where anyone can ask a question and the recent article by Kevin McAuliffe was brought up, so if anyone want's to chime in...

Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock... "man, I think the clock is sssllooowww..."

I am excited about Mavericks public release. Not holding my breath for anything else. Not about to upgrade my iPad or rMBP any time soon. A release date for The Tube would be nice, but, no holding my breath...

BACK TO WORK!

They just said they're updating more than 20 Mac/iOS apps today. Correct my math, but that's more than iLife/iWork

Final Cut was never going to be highlighted here. But it did get a brief mention with MacPro.

Look at the new version of iMovie, it will probably give us a few clues about how 10.1 might look

across those and LogicProX, it definitely points to a "de-glossing" of the UI.

Let's wait until any of the pre-announced software updates hit the MAS and see what's there. That said, we may have to wait a while longer.
