Humm. I think FCPX 10.1 is hidden inside of the new iMovie.

White Balance, Skin Tone Balance, as well as what was FCPX only, Match Color & Auto.

Humm. The more I am poking around with it, this feels a lot like FCPX. Many FCPX features in here.

iMovie now is handling projects, i.e. timelines differently. I can't yet tell but I think that Events and Projects are combined.

Timeline is super responsive. Project library is different.

They moved the Transitions/Effects browser area to show in the browser area so the timeline can remain big.

Wow. Lots of stuff here to play with that will probably be changes we will see in FCPX 10.1.

Looking good.

There is a new thing called a "iMovie Library", rather that organizing by drives you organize by Library. Inside the libraries are our events, but no sign of projects. They appear to just reside with events.

And check this out, you can close libraries!

iMovie has a great "flat" look with much less "bubbles". This is only a guess. But we heard that FCPX didn't have any iMovie code, but from the looks of things iMovie 10, is a subset of FCP 10 code.

Logic Pro X also has libraries. I think I see a pattern here.

Goodbye projects/event structure. Big potential improvement for metadata between events and sequences.

So... are sequences now stored inside libraries?

I think we should look at 10.1 as a change in the filesystem of it. Look at how event manager x is given away free at IBC and will be free after the new release.

So yeah.... :)

Now you see were I was getting at :)

Something I slapped together with Mac Pro specs for FCP X, Pixelmator, and 3D apps. (What, no Photoshop test? LMAO!)

I would gather that Libraries are the replacement for "drives", and because they can be open and closed they should provide the mechanism for collaboration that Ben talked about. I tried to create a library on a regular MacMini server, but it is not allowing it. But I'm sure there is a workaround with sparse disk images, etc.

Aperture also had Libraries, but you can only open at a time. iMovie 10 lets you open and close as many as you need.

Plus if you put in an external drive, it pops up just like it did in FCP 10. And you can now close the library and eject the drive.

Fantastic!

Everyone should note that the baseline for the new MacPro performance tests in Ben's post are

NEW MACPRO-
Mac Pro 12-core 2.7GHz units with 1TB flash storage and AMD FirePro D700 graphics

vs OLD MACPRO
Mac Pro 12-core 3.06GHz units with 512GB SSD and ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics

There's some huge gains there.

Couple of other interesting things. After a successful share, the Notification Center pulled up a badge:

And the "Theater" thing is like your personal movie sharing site. You share to it and then it uploads to iCloud so you can watch it on any device, like an Apple TV, iPad, etc. So you could hit share, in your edit room, and then it will be ready to watch in the conference room on an Apple TV.
