Orders start tomorrow...so sounds like it won't ship for a little while at least. Hope that means FCPX 10.1 is available immediately/tomorrow though...

I already got my brand new maxxed out iMac and Pegasus RAID so I'm more concerned with FCPX update! :-)

Here up in Iceland there will be a long waiting for Mac Pro, I would guess in february, 300.000 inhabitants, why should Apple care. :(

FCPX 10.1 could still come later today in the form of an app store update.

As opposed to what other form? ;)

If the MacPro is being released tomorrow, then I'm taking it for granted that 10.1 will be out tomorrow.

Maybe. Apple is taking orders tomorrow. Ships in 4-6 weeks. The update really doesn't have to be released until then. Year end tax write offs are not going to Mac Pro based. That was tactically a poor move.

Lol, I meant that we might not have to wait to add it to a Mac Pro order.

Where is this "ships in 4-6 weeks" coming from? It's not in their PR statement, nor on their website.

10.1 won't be held 'til January.

And I don't think this was a tactical move. Something held the MacPro up, I figure.

Everyone is assuming it's the MacPro that's holding FCPX up, but it could actually be the other way around….

Alex said that in post #36282. He didn't elaborate on a source.

I agree I think that Apple didn't delay this deliberately, but it's very unfortunate. There are many businesses and government organizations and NGOs who have year end budgets that are "use it or lose it," and nobody what's to lose it (usually subsequent budgets are reduced if you don't spend it). If you carry spending over into the new year then you're in a new budget and might be reluctant to spend big chunks early in the year. Just unfortunate. Should have had it out the door early in the month.

Alex was quoting 4-6 weeks earlier in the thread.

It could be, but I think all the new components and moving parts of the new US production line make the MacPro the much more likely candidate.

OTOH they could have easily released 10.1 without the MacPro, but releasing a MacPro without a working FCPX could be a problem if that really is their target market.

I agree. Should have. But could have is the operative question. Apple certainly wouldn't have wanted to blow those sales if they didn't have to.

Just like they want to get their consumer products out in time for holiday shopping.

Apple has consistently tied the MacPro and X together in it's PR materials- one was always going to wait for the other, for good or ill.

But I think a good indicator tomorrow will be ship times. If higher end configs ARE a couple weeks out, then the probability is that software was waiting on hardware this time.

Absolutely. Another major problem I think were the winter storms in Texas that basically froze the northern half of the state. DFW was practically shut down, and American could only get a limited numbers of operators to its call center. I'm sure it hit everything in north Texas and slowed down production significantly.

Should have had it out earlier..? Tactical error..?

Guys, this is Apple. Apple who End of lifed the worlds most popular editing program on a whim because they thought they had a better way of doing it.

For better or worse, Apple do what they feel is right. End of year budget allowances don't factor into it.

For all we know Friday was the original date of availability and it's actually hitting a day early :)
