FCPX 10.0.9 PRE-RELEASE DISCUSSION 02 Jul 2013 12:39 #28073
And I'll repeat this again, during NAB Show 2013, at their off-site briefings, Apple did tell us that more audio support, and collaboration, are on the board, are being worked on, but they are complex and Apple is taking the time to do them right, rather than slap out some half-assed solution. Apple is super aware of what we want, and what we need, and are working on things. And, they made clear they take the time to do them right, not race the clock to get them out fast.

Interesting that it shows the FCPX icon and not the Apple icon... |

FCPX 10.0.9 PRE-RELEASE DISCUSSION 03 Jul 2013 12:22 #28144
Early last year Blackmagic had a road show in NYC as well. Apple was there. They did an FCPX presentation and had a table right next to Avid. I was hoping this was a sign that Apple was again going to start making appearance to promote FCPX. Apparently not. They have done the Blackmagic road show before. One thing I would like to see is direct CinemaDNG support in FCPX. This road show would be the right time to show it off. I'll be at NYC show so all you LA folks will probably spoil it for me. ![]() |

That would be my guess- Blackmagic has been very cozy with Apple and FCPX. Native CinemaDNG has to be coming down the pipe.
My thinking at the moment is that if we don't see an FCPX update before this event on July 25th, then we won't see a feature release until the one timed with the MacPro. That's presuming Mavericks and the MacPro launch in the Sept/Oct timeframe. But if those things launch LATE in the year (Nov) there's a bit more time for a Summer update, either feature or maintenance. |

Just a thought that hit my brain... Man Apple has spoiled us with so many updates over the last 2 years. It used to be an update a year and now were all bummed that is't been around 4 months and no update!!! Perspective I guess. But I'm with ya mates... Give me my update of cool stuff now!!!

True, on the other hand, FCPX is an program that REALLY could use updates when it arrived, and it still can. Remember, when FCPX released, it was an NLE that contained no XML or any way of getting your editing data out of it, no relinking function, no way of only exporting a piece of a timeline, no copying/pasting of attributes, ... For instance, the work we do now with FCPX literally would not have been possible without some feature updates in 10.0.6. Yes, I love it, yes, I have switched about 100 percent of my work to it, but yes it also needs much more work (I have a bullet point list of about 40-50 things, personally). |

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the updates should slow down. I too think there are plenty of places for improvement. I was just commenting on how quickly our Pavlovian reconditioning kicked in. Every thee months the bell would ring and we were delivered what we craved. Now it's been for months and were salivating all over the place waiting for our treat!!

I don't see any reason why they couldn't take a similar approach when Retina was released.
Feature update can happen soon, Dual GPU improvements update released when MacPro ships. The only reason I can see for a longer release time is if they hare having challenges implementing new features independent of the MacPro or... they have some yet to be revealed marketing strategy that they'd prefer to happen all at once. |

Well... Development has slowed down a bit. Interval time is up year 1 vs year 2. Fewer Feature releases and much further apart. But that's to be expected as the software matures.
Technically there's no way the next update should be another maintenance release (as that would be 3 in a row), but then again it could be largely maintenance with CinemaDNG support like the Log C support in 10.0.8- that is if they're putting all their feature weight behind the MacPro timed release. Very hard to figure what we'll see. |

RAW CinemaDNG support would be great, I agree. No more feature updates until some nasty bugs get sorted out first, if you please.

We are calling the last two updates bug fix updates, but new features were added, too. Not huge ones, not a lot, but some past bug fixes have include new functions and new native codec support. I can't tell you how very much Cmd-Opt-[1-6] has really helped me out. So, that sort of blurs the line between bug fix and feature update a tad. Just saying...

Apple is the one who says the latest two releases hadn't new features, check their release notes, just the 10.0.6 and 10.0.3 says new features.

I never said anything about Apple's personal claims, which technically don't label releases as ether "bug fix" or "new feature" updates blatantly. But new functions and codec support are written there in most bug releases. That's all I'm saying.

Adobe have just announced an update to the Creative Cloud version of Premiere Pro less than 30 days after launch. It looks like more than a maintenance update, some would say less than a feature update: blogs.adobe.com/premierepro/2013/07/ppro...uly-2013-update.html Given has no need to consider what the other 'A's do, I don't think they'll change their plans. I think that Adobe wouldn't have updated so quickly if it hadn't been for the quick evolution of Final Cut Pro X. @Alex4D |

I think we can assume the major releases are marked by a new documentation version. As of now, the online FCP X manual (and PDF) are showing 10.0.6 as the version.
