Slightly off topic: RAID is not longer an option in Disk Utility. I guess most FCPX users relies on RAID so is there any option except for using terminal commands ?

Metal is not in FCPX yet.

I have a blog post where I'm tracking third party compatibility ( www.finalcutprox.guru ).

Smaller developers don't have the time and resources large corporations do, to update every plugin on the fly. Beta versions are fine, but the final public release (gold master) is not available until the last minute, and THAT is not the same as previous beta versions. I know third party developers working very hard to keep up. Plus the last minute bugs they have to wait on Apple to fix (auvaltool and Core Image both have issues right now).

Noooooo!!!
My 100€ solution! My driving force handling 4k on MacMinii!! My poor mans Pegasus!!

.... any idea, if - made with Yosemite - such a soft-raid gets recognized by EC?
if not, I'm in trouble .....
A 1Tb replacement (a real Raid, or, preferred, ext SSD) is not in my actual households budget!

aarrghgh

RAID is not a substitute for a Backup. RAID = performance, Backup = security. RAID without backup, no matter what, is just foolhardy.

I know that. I use striped RAID for my FCPX libraries and media only. Another disk for backup. But the fact is still that, RAID can not been built in EC

To bad the Link doesn't work! But a list would be nice with a description that will cause the crash.
I found this on Mac Rumors... here is a working link .

WOW what a comment! How about explaining why RAIDS are not suitable for backups? Especially when they are used in Backup solution from RAID 5, RAID 6 to RAID 10. Which RAID 10 would be the optimal solution. RAID will protect you form disk failure.
Yes I am aware of data corruption but for that there is software and backup redundancy.

Good question on the RAID in El Capitan. What would the solution be for companies that have software RAID drives on the market like G-Tech?

FXFactory 5.0.6 just released for 10.11 compatibility.

BTW, note that Repair Disk Permissions is no longer in Disk Utility either. In this case, changes permissions needed installing files makes this unnecessary supposedly.

Me too!
The Raid-tab in DU was made for simple folks like me .... you mentioned Terminal .... any copy/paste recipies avail?

And don't worry - my cheap-raid is just meant for speed, a working horse. Race horse. No worries, if a platter fails but the idea was, if something gets wrong to 're-initial' it with a few clicks, not by getting an engineer first ....

As we know, Apple analyzes any send crash-report .... maybe soft-raids were not that fancy ... aaaand axed. <boohooo>

and sorry the link contained a semi CR or whatever command....

Here is the only workaround I have found, lovely terminal junk, but seems to work www.reddit.com/r/osx/comments/3d7aw2/doe...tility_support_raid/

Like Makki, I'm reluctant to upgrade due to using a RAID 0 (with separate backup). So far I don't see a way to re-configure that RAID in the future short of terminal use or $179 for SoftRaid. Are there other options?

And, don't laugh, I still use iDVD a bit - works flawlessly in Yosemite. Anybody know about El Capitan?

And are plugins/transitions/titles like MotionVFX working?

I just finished the arstechnica review, and regarding the permissions supposedly permissions are done during app installation.

arstechnica.com/apple/2015/09/os-x-10-11...echnica-review/6/#h3

In regards to the Raid I am pretty shocked, but, I guess mostly it's either provided by the harddrive manufacturer now, or it's done through hardware. But still, pretty Shocking to see it go. :(

I got La Cie 1TB thunderbolt 2 SSd and it cama with striped RAID that was made with disk utility. I have tvice rebuilt the RAID following La Cie instruction using Disk Utility. Now this is not longer possible. Thanks Apple.

Things like RAID have been removed because Apple doesn't want to confuse Grandma when she goes to build her disks in Disk Utility. The OS is starting to aim at a lower common denominator. No RAID is best RAID. Why would you need RAID anyway? All disks are fast enough without it. Hopefully soon they just remove Disk Utility altogether. And Terminal. That's scary and confusing. Only Apple Geniuses should be able to do anything with your Mac (and they ARE required to be real geniuses on IQ tests before they are hired).

It seems RAID is yet another thing that will require you to use a third party utility.
On the OWC site when checking their Thunderbolt IV RAID compatibility for El Capitan it pointed to SoftRaid.
www.softraid.com/pages/support/download_latest_version.html

Found when looking at "more information" for some of their RAID ready drives.
