Before I do the upgrade, will this install on a computer running LION.
I currently have Lion installed on my 2008 MacBook Pro and 2006 1.1 MacPro.
I don't have Mountain Lion installed on either, as I can't install Mountain Lion on a 1.1 MacPro.
Actually I did find a way to do it online, but it's rather a time consuming process.

If you look at the tech specs on the FCP X page for Apple.com you'll see the requirements are a actually a bit more specific:
www.apple.com/finalcutpro/specs/
"OS X v10.6.8 or OS X v10.7.5 or OS X v10.8.2 or later."

What I'm wondering about is if this page refers to the 10.0.6 update or the older updates and this page hasn't been updated yet?jamecude wrote:

We have tested it on Snow Leopard, Lion and ML. No issues here. You always should have the latest versions of any OS you are running.

I only asked because someone mentioned that they got a warning that they needed 10.8.1 to install. My OS is up to date so no issue there.
I figured that it would download fine, but wanted to see if anyone had downloaded and installed it on anything other than ML.

No problem. We did the tests on different OS'es as soon as we got it. It will run fine on Lion (10.7.5).

Apple tells me you need the LATEST VERSION of your OS, no matter which OS flavor you are on.
Also be sure to back up your events, projects, the update may not work with some plugins, yet. Never update mid-project. See this KB article from Apple.

Apparently there's a plugin from RED that has to be installed to recognize/import/edit R3D files:

Quick explanation video from RED on accessing RAW etc:

That is very impressive that you can change the metadata of the r3d files. Isnt this the only NLE that does this?

No, Premiere allows access to the RAW metadata as well.

Trick:
Right-click the .RMD file, select Get Info, then in it's Info window set it's default app to Text Edit, click the button to change all .RMD files to open with Text Edit.
Now, go change an ISO in a .RMD file, then launch FCP X, watch the ISO in the RED RAW settings be that same number. It writes AND reads the metadata for RED RAW settings. Very cool!

From what I've seen, PPro is a one way to the metadata, not two way.
Can I do RAW setting corrections in PPro, go to another app and see those corrections from PPro still? Then go BACK to PPro with those new corrections in tact?
I dunno, I've not touch PPro in some time.
But PPro is limited to 4k, FCP X 10.0.6 goes up to 5k support.

It's a two way street -- PPro treats the RAW metadata similar to an adjustment layer (only without a physical layer in the timeline) but doesn't write that data back to the .rmd unless you instruct it to in the source settings window.
Yep, PPro only does 4K. A shame, but I expect the Adobe team to make adjustments as time goes on (and RED releases a 6K sensor). I do like roundtripping between PPRo and AE -- it'd be nice to see a similar link like 'Send to Motion' like we used to have in FCP7. Seems like it's mostly a one way street from Motion to FCPX right now.

YEAH there are still few option missing in this update. But I say FCPX delivered fine not as much Motion did.

And when Apple can put 500 new features into a 3-6 month update, I'm sure they will do just that.
Now, to dig more. I'm only 80% through this user manual...
