That kind of sucks. I don't see why they couldn't leave both options. Sometimes I import clips to multiple different locations. Seems like more of a hassle to constantly go back and forth between the import window and library inspector (in certain situations).

Overall though, loving the improvements. Seems much speedier, even on the new Mac Pro.

All three apps launch and run just fine in Yosemite beta now.

The first time they launch they take quite awhile.

Motion's filters seem really limited to only a small few.

I've been googling for anything that talks about what ProRes 4444 XQ is.

"Extra Quality"?

Seems weird there's no info anywhere on it.

There's tons of info. There's a whole white paper on ProRes. Here's a KB article about ProRes.

Info is in the FCPX Help doc.

Yeah, X2Pro is updated I won't be able to update FCPX. Glad to know it's not working though so I can wait a few weeks to update. Takes the itch off a little.

That was my next idea, search to see if the white paper had been updated. Seems it has.

FCPX Still sucks even with this update!

They didn't bring back these 'pro' features:

- Tracks.

- Forcing the user to have to know what resolution, pixel type, and codec they need to be cutting in

- Endless hoop jumping just to get working creatively

- Meaningless icons

- Having to complicatedly activate the software or carry a dongle wherever you go.

You got a literally LOL from me. Bravo!

So seriously, what app takes 2 minutes per clip to analyze?

Avid can really take a while on certain formats if you don't want to risk using AMA. PP CS6 and CC 2013 would do this on certain clips as well. CC 2014 is much much better at this.

I haven't tried MC 8 yet because the trial has "activation error" issues, which is reminding me to edit my post.

But seriously folks,

This is hands down the most useful update for me. I am helping on a doc that has passed through every version of FCPX since 10.0.2. For the past few versions the projects the client gave me were so corrupt, they would crash if you tried to copy paste from them. You couldn't compound clip anything either.

It was a nightmare. Now these cootie infested projects work perfectly. I'm not saying you shouldn't back up your libraries first, but what a great bonus.

Just FYI about the stability of 10.1.2 on an 8-core MP tube. Since Libraries have to be updated, I selected about 17 of them at one time in the Finder, Cmd-O, FCPX launched, updated them FAST (about 45 seconds), and didn't hiccup once. I swear I was waiting for it to freeze up and crash. It didn't. Haven't been able to make it crash yet. Better yet, I can't make Compressor crash with the things that used to do it. Loving the stability here.

Totally agree, I can feel it handling better at every turn.

The status bars letting you know what it's up to is great too.

The ability to now place optimized and proxy media anywhere is huge. This means you can share one pool of transcoded media with multiple editors. This will greatly reduce the need for massive bandwidth on the network working in proxy.

Leaving activity monitor open makes me really want to have 64GB of RAM. FCPX maxed out my physical RAM and used up 100GB of virtual on my SSD chugging through converting a massive older library.

Don't know what they've done under the hood but my copy is running much faster and smoother than it ever has.

Now we just wait for Alex4Ds report. ;)

I've completed an export on the 10.1.2 so far, but no real editing yet. But one observation that is troubling is in Activity Monitor FCPX is constantly running at 100-125% CPU. When I looked, was only using 512MB of 8GB.
I have 1 project open, the meter is green/100%
Any thoughts before I just trash preferences and move on.
I suspect maybe beyond "upgrading" the Libraries at the start perhaps there is FCPX magic in the background that needs to complete?

As you move through a project timeline, it is redrawing the images on the timeline much faster

This was a good update- Media Management once again was the focus.

I'd love to feel the speed improvements, but I'm also stuck here on 10.1.1 until X2Pro updates for the new XML. I'll also need to check the compatibility of 10.1.2 Project XMLs to Resolve 10.1.5.

Ah, the joys of working on a long-run TV show.

This breaks my heart.

If you keep a copy of 10.1.1 and only open a copy of a library you can play around with you could get a taste of the future!

I have a hunch that the XtoPro guys will push out an update quickly or risk Apple adding that as a feature!

I'm actually slightly more concerned about the XMLs to Resolve than X2Pro.

I already sort of schmucked myself when I accidentally hit the install on 10.9.3 on my MacPro, disabling my version of Resolve Lite.

Thankfully I have my laptop, still on 10.9.2 and intalled Resolve without issue.

My MacPro is the working machine, but I'll need to keep it 10.1.1 so I can export Consolidated projects and test them on my Laptop, which I'll also have to keep on 10.1.1 so I can export AAFs to X2Pro, and Project XMLs to Resolve.

And that's not to mention how I made the boo-boo and installed CUDA drivers on my Mac Pro (or it happened automatically when I installed Resolve, which needs CUDA to run)- and because I have CUDA installed with my D700 AMD processors After Effects is confused and crashes on launch.

Oh, golly!

Still no zoom into clip when in listview mode, this would help in tracking down in and out points in interviews, I know I can go into filmsview mode, being able to adjust the zoom level of the clip in the browser when in list view mode would really speed things up.

Not being able to fix a screen resolution and save this as a user preference, the constant up and down scroll bars in the time line, irritates me as there is such a huge grey "bar" under the primary storyline region, if there was someway to disable this region, in other words force all media to attach above, this would help with the user interface screen real estate aspect of FCP X.

Have the software auto resize as I add clips to the timeline, this way I can see the entire timeline without having to shift+z constantly.

Most of my issues are mechanical in nature, I do have a issue that I am not sure how to describe, Listview mode is cumbersome in the way it does not show clips that are "hidden" behind dates, I created a new library, imported 1 file into the library, the file is hidden under today's date. It is under the tiny triangle drop down arrow thing.

Keywords does not clear when you create a new project, so I have to waste time clearing out the old keywords in each of the nine slots...This could be user defined, keep or clear..

What we have with 10.1.2 is putting lipstick on a pig, and Apple hopes we do not notice how ugly the pig is, the pig is still ugly, as the screen design has serious flaws, the coding is still half baked, no where near professional, the addition of features was to mask the fact Apple is not going to fix the underlying issues, hide it with shiny sparkly effects and modifications.

It was not a good update, Apple it is an epic fail!!

Well, in general all pigs are ugly, but I don't see a problem with the lipstick, its kind of charming. Besides, have you tried the "jamón serrano" (iberian ham). it's the best
