What's new, fixed or different in FCP 10.3?

I just did it yesterday (9 angles), the shortcut worked in 10.3 (Sierra)!

Classic situation was "before" to park the playhead at the cut and fire up the cmd-T, now I have to select the two adjacent clips to enable the shortcut.
In regular edit mode, theres is no need to select adjacent clips.
And since I can still drop a transition on my cut, this doesn't make sense.

Do you have also to select the bordering clips or do you just cmd-T on a cut-parked playhead ?

I'm on El Cap, too many irks on Sierra for now.

I did it yesterday, I think I just selected the outgoing cut.. but not sure, BUT I did not see any difference to 10.2.
I will try later today and let you know.

What do you mean "too many irks on Sierra"? We changed all workplaces to Sierra and I am working with Sierra since 6 months now (we are Apple develop..) and find it one of the most stable OS ever tested.

I understand that this "button" went in the upper left corner, but I can not see any percentage unless I click on it. Is this just me.. am I missing something?

The new background tasks icon is animated when there are active tasks. The old icon drew a green circle to indicate the percentage complete along with indicating the percentage numerically. The new little clock icon fills in like a little blue pie chart to show at a glance the percentage complete but without the numeric value. As you know, just like the old icon, for more detailed information you click on it.
When we had the numeric value I think you had a better indication of if there is enough time to go and make a coffee before the task is complete, but it's not a deal breaker for me. Overall i like the new UI. :)

A clip or edit point must be selected to use Cmd-T. You can select the edit point or clip with one key stroke.

Background tasks, those numerical values could be misleading. It only showed percentage of the current task being done, not the total of all tasks in the queue. The new pie chart shows total tasks.

Up to 10.2.3, i just had to park the playhead on a cut between two clips to go for a single cross dissolve, if now I select one clip, I get dissolves on both head and tail of that clip and selecting the two clips around where I want my dissolve gets me three of them.
What do you mean by "selecting an edit point with one key stroke" ?
I must be missing something here, sorry if that's the case.

Coremelt has a new video noise removal plugin coming out. It is in development now. Will be a fraction the cost of Neat.

Maybe going off topic here but Red Giant update to Magic Bullets Suite, their DeNoiser plugin is now FCPX compatible.
When the time comes I'd love to see a comparison between Neat, DeNoiser and whatever Coremelt comes out with.

Red Giant has some "digs" to Neat in their DeNoiser demo about leaving certain stuff in the background and giving the user control of important stuff.

Replied by dmb on topic Bug in Title Line Spacing
This bug relates to setting the Line Spacing parameter for the text in Titles. When selecting more than one line of text in the title, changing the line spacing parameter effects only the first line of selected text. Changing other parameters, such as the font or tracking, for example, effects all the selected text, as you would expect. This bug is new to FCPX 10.3, as version 10.2.3 functioned correctly.

Let's submit those feedback reports, please! B)

Libraries now open from SMB shares??

I have just double clicked a library backed up to our archive NAS, and it has successfully updated the library to 10.3 and loaded!!!

Anyone else tried this?? I'm going to investigate more, if so, this is VERY handy for us.

That's odd, it didn't change, works for me. Nothing selected, hit space bar to start paling, i makes an In point on the Primary Storyline clip, o makes an outpoint. Should work.

Try trashing prefs. Also, is this an updated project, or a new one? I've seen a couple of really minor issues with one or two updated projects.

Tested this in/out workflow when getting into the office and here's what's happening for me: if there are "grouped clips" above the primary storyline then it no longer allows me to simply set an in and out with i/o. If there is no group above the primary then i/o works as expected.

Seems like 10.3 may have a new way to select different video tracks of sorts to set ins and outs? (i.e. use keyboard to tell it to i/o on primary or in the group?) Thoughts?

hm seems to be much snappier, however, crashed on me a few times now, blade cuts don't seem to be always where you place the cursor.
My YouTube export setting I created now delivers a horrible quality
not sure why I did not change anything.

Hiding resize for timeline, not a good choice for me as I use it frequently
but I guess will need to get used to cmd - +

The most annoying issue I have run into is that the library sorting resets to name/accending everytime I open FCPX. I shoot news, and several events added a night as I add stories to the monthly library, and without decending/date sorting, I have to hunt through a hundred stories looking for the recent ones.

Anyone know a way to make this sorting selection stick?

Paul

If you zoom in on the timeline very close, where you see a single frame signified in the Timeline Ruler, you will discover you can move the playhead to the sub-frames without using any modifier key. If you blade while mid-frame, the cut happens at the start of that frame.
