It makes sense to release on the tenth
10 is regarded as a perfect number, It is complete in harmony .
For Pythagoras, 10 was the symbol of the universe and it also expressed the whole of human knowledge.
So it would be fitting to release it on the Dec. 10th.

And 10.1 could represent the end of a cycle and the beginning of another.
1= Life 0=death 1=Life

I know mumbo jumbo... But some companies think bout numbers alot

Will Apple really release these without fanfare?
Just have them show up in the store.

I really hope they make the call "Roll up... Roll up... Come and see the amazing Mac Pro!"

That's how they've done all of the dot updates to FCPX with big new features. I never recall FCPX being on the homepage of the website—just the App Store.

It does seem now that nothing will happen until the official release of OSX 10.9.1, good thing is that it's release seems imminent.

Apple has talked publicly at media events about the 2013 Mac Pro twice now, and announced a December shipping date. I see no reason for them to waste time and money on another media event.

Agreed. I'd be very happy to be pleasantly surprised to wake up and see the update badge indicating the new FCPX.

10.1 and the MacPro are like presents under the Christmas tree! No way to know what's inside...

Or how many presents you'll get...

Or whether you'll have to pay for the presents...

Or when you get to open them...

Just listened to the latest episode of Ben Consoli's Go Creative Show and he said that 10.1 is going to be GREAT! Mark Spencer of Ripple Training also seems to think so too.

The podcast doesn't say whether Ben Consoli or Mark Spencer have actually seen the new version of Final Cut Pro X, so difficult to say really how "great" it is going to be. Of course, I anticipate that it will be...

That's the one, about Shane Hurlbut. Listen to the first 10 or 15 minutes and he'll mention that he "is not the only one saying how great the new version is going to be". I'm not sure whether these were the exact words he used but you'll hear it. That's all he said basically.

Alex - can you search in iMovie 10 and see if there is any reference to being "great", or perhaps "improved", or "awesome" ;)

We are an odd bunch eh? With some much anticipation of this software. Of course if FCP was a physical thing, I would be camping out at the Apple store in hopes of being first in line to get it. I for one am trying to just bide the time and keep being distracted by other things, like work, and my family.

It's like pacing around waiting for a baby to be born. It will arrive in it's own good time. In three weeks we will undoubtedly be putting 10.1 through its paces and feel that it came at just the right time.

Hang in there everyone.

Well, I've got four kids and it's a LITTLE different waiting for new NLE update. In any case, I counsel patience and lowered expectations for 10.1. I've been down this road before and it's never as good as you hope--but usually never as bad as you fear.

Good point about the kids. My last was had to be emergency c-section and I started balling the moment the doc told us of the surgery. I didn't stop crying for a good hour.

You are very right, no tears will be shed for FCP. ;)

I would imagine that people who are expecting a completely different app, with tracks or a mixing console or color wheels or something, will be disappointed. Those people should just use Premiere though, as that's the app they really want. lol I'd also imagine that, like previous big updates, there will be a lot more going on than is apparent in the UI. Unfortunately, all I can do is imagine until it appears... :-(

I'm very concerned about Compressor.

While Apple iOS devices can now easily play H.264 High Profile, Compressor can't encode these, nor can it do CABAC entropy encoding. It's about the only commonly used encoder that can't. Apple's H.264 implementation is also about the worst (least efficient) on the market.

The x264 plug-in for compressor is old and unsupported -- but it still works. It does High Profile and CABAC. Sure, it would be nice if Apple added it's own support. I don't expect it. I'd like to be wrong.

Compressor sure hasn't been updated in a while in any meaningful way. Seeing as it's kind of an official "part" of FCPX, and there's been some rumors a fancy new version of FCPX coming, :P maybe Apple will surprise us. :-)
