For a little more information: alex4d.com/notes/item/imovie-2013-is-consumer-ui-on-fcpx I'd love iCloud-based plugin storage. Oddly though, copies of some non-standard effects are saved inside Final Cut project files, so perhaps 10.1 would allow iCloud-based unlocking of encoded plugins when a file is moved to a machine with a different Apple ID. @Alex4D |

FCPX 10.1.0 PRE-RELEASE DISCUSSION 02 Dec 2013 02:14 #34969

I really hope that it's this tuesday, I'd hate to wait one more week! What would be your favourite new features that you think we can realistically expect in this release? Mine would be flexible window layouts, audio mixer and multiple timeline clip colours (Logic X like colours would be nice). But then again I'd also quite like some new original features that I couldn't even imagine, because we've never seen them before. What I wouldn't like is any kind of return to Final Cut Pro 8, because obviously Adobe is in the business of making FCP8, Apple should be concerned with version 10 and later...

I think we probably already have a good idea that one of the main areas of development was changing the database structure and metadata/media management implications therein.
I'm fairly certain my "Roles as Tracks" metaphor is not going to make it into this release, as much as I would like it. And I don't think there are the hooks into the current iMessage to allow for iChatTheatre to return. I think Alex's articles will certainly hit some of the targets, though we should definitely NOT think that everything he's found should be expected to appear. But I think we'll get some surprises as well. At this point I'm content to wait, especially since we don't have long to wait. |

I'm hoping that Apple deems this event important enough to hold a small presentation.
So I would like them to announce on Tuesday that there is an Event in one weeks time that is dedicated to Pros. Sean Lander - Editing since 1982 - AVID 1991 - FCP 1999 - FCPX 2011

Maybe just me but one wish I haven't seen expressed, I hope we don't have to wait a year for significant feature updates again. I do hope things move back into every few months mode. Then we don't have to agonize over what didn't make it into this upcoming big release because we may see it a few months down the road.
We hope for so much because we had to wait so long and any disappointments are going to be a let down for some. That's less likely to happen if they keep surprising every few months. |

I think you need a longer development stretch like this for more foundational changes to the application, like the database changes we'll likely see in 10.1. But for features that live on top of that, like the stuff they added in the past 2 years likely Muticam or RED support, etc., etc... those can obviously come over shorter cycles.
Adobe has certainly picked up the idea of more than annual updates- they seem to be on a 6 month cycle for feature updates now. So I don't think FCPX can afford to slow down. I think the maintenance updates will continue as they have (every 3-4 months)- but whether the interval between feature updates will slow down now is anyones guess. |

Cinema DNG support would be fun. It would be nice to take the raw out of a black magic cam. If I remember correctly, there are three variants of DNG they are using for the three different models. Saved Layouts, I hate moving the window around manually for each "mode" I'm in.
I do hope there will be something wonderful with roles. As long as the dev time has been, I would be surprised if there wasn't. I think they should press the advantage with their concepts. Competition is wonderful. |

Dell are releasing 4K
monitors
For what it's worth I love my 24" Dells that I bought with my Mac Pro. They have been flawless. So the panels are being manufactured. There is no doubt in my mind we'll see a 4K monitor soon from Apple. Sean Lander - Editing since 1982 - AVID 1991 - FCP 1999 - FCPX 2011

Thanks for that link. Looks like the 32" dell that I was pointing out is their highest end model. The 28" 4K display for $1000 looks like a viable option.
Did you see the 4K 39" LCD for $429? Granted it has an odd 30HZ refresh rate, but that is a sign that prices will come down soon. |

The 24" Tru-color models. Top of the line back in 2008. Yes used them many times to grade programs. Had them professionally calibrated. Sean Lander - Editing since 1982 - AVID 1991 - FCP 1999 - FCPX 2011

That's the key.
While I have a 19"JVC BM here in front of me, considering the % of my work that is destined for web- I wonder what the point is... |

Considering that the prosumer cameras are using Cinema DNG for RAW (Blackmagic, Digital Bolex), it would be weird for FCPX to not support it. |
