I just got an email from Denver Riddle about his activities at NAB 2015. He mentions and I quote: "Apple will also be introducing a new update to Final Cut Pro X!!!". Did he just let the cat out of the bag?

Just saw that email too. We've all assumed that would be the case but it is nice to hear that from him. I'm curious where they'll take it now. They've pretty much covered most of the essentials. Now's the time to polish the software.

No not really, we all knew after 10.1.4 there will be a update. Question is what will the next update bring?
I can say it will be nice update or will not? :)

Denver seems happy so I guess there's no updates to the Color features that compete with Color Finale. It would be very odd to demo a product no longer necessary.

So the update hits Tuesday it would seem.

What if the updates leveraged or worked better with his product? Given Apple's history I would never be surprised if they award and laud a developers efforts only to come back and rip them off. Sometimes you get Sherlock, sometimes you get cover flow. I

The Color features in FCP X seem more than adequate for the average user and third-party add-ons such as Color Finale and others already provide extra features that some users have asked for (such as RGB curves). So the only things that FCP X needs at this time are more elaborate scopes (as you already mentioned) and a way to apply broadcast safe filters to the Color adjustments without needing to put them on adjustment layers.

Sorry about the confusion folks, I was just going off of what I read on the posted session schedule:

"Apple Product Marketing will present an update on Final Cut Pro X.”

I actually have no idea what they’ll show but I’m looking forward to finding out and hope I'll see you there.

The recent updates to Premiere Pro were pretty cool, so I hope FCPX comes up with some interesting innovations. "Project Candy" which allows you to take a picture of something you like with your phone and create a "look" with it for PP seems pretty cool. How well it will work, I don't know, but the idea is awesome. I just really want FCPX to add some crazy new stuff comparable to the magnetic timeline.

I'm still waiting for some sort of built in transcription/dictation.

Funny thing is, based on past updates, no matter what Apple does, there will be a handful of folks who bitch up a storm and cry over what Apple did NOT put in the update. No application updates with 100% of what everyone wants, that's just life. But if we get stability, performance, bug fixes, and that's it, I'd be VERY happy. So, whenever this puppy is released, I'm sure it will be nice. Not everything to everybody, but nice, cause that's just how Apple does stuff.

Here's a question, what would really get your panties in a wad if it were missing from the next update? Is there any such feature? Or would you be happy with a good stability/performance only update?

As you said, stability would be 80% of the job.

Some improvements in the audio departement. Currently FCPX is lacking behind what we can expect from a standard NLE.

And, something that is not a feature but can have dramatic impact, is to improve the XML capabilities. That would allow programs like ClipExporter, X2Pro, and even Logic Pro X to do much more.

I'm not a fan of Avid but they announced a couple smart things today. Media Composer | First and Pro Tools | First, which are lite versions of their software coming later this year. Page out of Blackmagic's book. We'll see how "lite" they are. Also they announced the ISIS 1000 network storage system that works with the top three editing platforms, Avid, Premiere, FCP.

I am a fan of Avid and this is not the first time they launch a free version of their editing software. The first time was a disaster, i hope they will get it right this time. OTOH reading the FAQ makes me doubt. Just a few examples:

- With Lite you only can store your projects on their cloud service, the first few ones are free and then you start paying.
- Lite is very bare-bone basics. You can add stuff but you can only purchase it from Avid.
- You cannot import Lite projects into Media Composer.

If you compare this with how iMovie interacts with FCP X they still have a lot of work to do.

So I'm not that enthusiastic.

Ya, it looks like it'll see pretty scaled back unfortunately. At least without paying more.

I agree. I think this defeats the whole purpose of Lite being "free" ;)

I totally agree with you, but again it has been awhile since Apple introduced something to keep Final Cut Pro X innovated... after multicam it hasn't presented anything new in the tool set.

Workflow is great... stability and performance I wouldn't mind a bit more support. ;)

Libraries were a big deal and allowed a toolset of workflows that were really only possible before with cumbersome workarounds.
