Not wanting anyone to get their hopes up,
Sam Mestman has clarified this on Creative Cow:
'Just to clear a couple things up… I have no idea what Apple will be presenting… and please, if you listen to what I said on the grill, don’t read any tea leaves. As I said there, you should keep your expectations low, and all I really know is what’s listed on our site... '

... it's time for a Hobbyist's update, after all this pro ... stuff, no serious hobbyist needs!
cosmetics of GUI/Yosemite-ishing
auto White Balance (as already in iMovie)
auto GoPro/fish-eye removal
auto de-noiser
auto slideshow maker
more templates (oops, no 'auto'? )
DVD templates .... <har har har, that would be a surprise!!>
... not meant too seriously, but that would be a disappointment for all NAB visitors - and increase FCPX purchases instantly by 30% ...
:silly:

Apple has a standard dog and pony show they do. It'll just be; "here's where we came from, here's where we are, estimated numbers, here's a vague glimpse of the future that won't tell you anything at all." They've done these before, this is not ground breaking or new.

I have been to many of the Apple events and I can back up Ben on this. Unless you are asked to sign a NDA then you will not learn much about the future of the product. I heard on FCPGrill that all of the sessions at their suite at NAB will be recorded and then posted. Don't bet on Apple's presentation being videotaped. I once was to videotape and live stream a presentation from an Apple Engineer at our university. He informed me that he would be fired if he allowed himself and his presentation to be recorded.

If there's going to be an NAB release it's either going to be Thursday (or less likely) Monday.
Releasing on Friday is never a good idea because of potential support issues.
Releasing on Monday possible but gives little time to play with for developers who want to show it in their booths (unless they've been beta testing).
I know there are some that say Apple wouldn't time a release for a trade show but it would be extremely coincidental that it just happens to be released this close to NAB IMHO.
On the other hand there may be no release if it's not ready... and we can all grumble about how long Apple is taking for the next feature release.
As to "expectations" the longer they take the bigger the expectations will be.

Another Tuesday came and went, and no one has some comment about that... ?
Did anyone pass out from holding your breath for it? (just kidding)
One day, we will see the next update. And some day after that, we'll see yet another.
Just sayin'...

So if rumors are correct 10.10.3 beats 10.1.5. So maybe it is dependent on an OS enhancement? (or just a coincidence of timing).

OS X 10.10.3 don't bring any groundbreaking technology to the table, so I'd highly doubt any correlation. I'd rather Apple take their time, do it right, and make us wait, rather than rush it, slap it together, not care, blow off innovation, and let us have it yesterday. Can't have it both ways. All that eating cake and such. But I am impressed with Photos. The auto controls are really effective, and the manual controls are sensitive enough for pro level work. I look forward to seeing what third party plugins crop up.

I'm not seeing that either. 10.10.3 is the Photos release, and FCP doesn't have to do anything for that.

Great update on Premiere today
- task-oriented workspaces
- Morph Cut
- CC Libraries
- Lumetri 3-way color corrector
to name but a (probably) few
I have no doubt Apple's gonna match that

10.1.5 does not have to give us Photos integration, it is there already, today.

I'm really needing an FCPX release to drown out all the Adobe news.
Just little things like being able to see Waveform, Vectorscope, RGB Parade at the same time, like all the big kids have.

I have been committed to using FCP X since it came out and even though there have been a few minor bumps in the road  it works for me.
The funny thing is, when I first started using it I also checked out Premier. No problems with FCP X but Premier crashed within less than 5 minutes.
Yesterday I thought I'd take a look at Premier again. Within less than 5 minutes it crashed.
Do you think there's something in the FCP X installation that causes Premier to crash when FCP X detects that Premier is being used?? LOL :woohoo:

Funy thing is I build software, and we actually had an issue similiar where it was once not program Y that was crashing, but Program X was corrupting memory then Y would access the corrupted moemory. Boom. lol.
I looked through the color correction video for the lumitre update for Adobe, ahh the ease of use. I hate color correction, its my biggest weakness. I keep practicing and am getting better but good lord do I hate it Lumitre adds simple color controls like when I was in iPhoto or lightroom.

That's exactly my thought on Premiere. I've used it a lot since CS5.5 and they keep adding features but the bugs just seem to get worse and worse. I've been burned 100 times over by that software. New features from them don't mean squat with you can't finish your project. I use it when I need to but never when I get to make that choice on a project. They need a complete rewrite of their base code to remove the issues. FCP X is more stable and then of course Premiere will never have the editing mechanics/style of FCP X.
