Fido looks pretty cool (almost looks like a sequel to Sean of the Dead with the habituated zombies!). I wonder will people start getting Zombie overdose in 2013 though; this particular monster seems to have been almost as over-saturated as Vampires were recently?

Tried doing the thing with Superman and the music, but Spotify wont work in my location....

Talking about Daft Punk; they made what is surely one of the greatest film scores in a recent Blockbuster with Tron Legacy. Frankly, the best parts of that movie felt like an extended daft Punk music video.

Heres the trailer:

The Tron Trailer is yeah incredible. Thanks Simon. I will definitely go to see it when it comes out.

The original Tron when it came out was probably the second film I saw in the cinema. First was Dumbo

I think Julian is making a very interesting point about trying out different Music for different trailers.

And please bear with me on this as I turn this around on its head :silly:

Any body in here heard of the Blind Film Critic! Tommy Edison?

Yep. That is right. No Yak shit. Being blind and all that he focuses mainly on the sound!!!

In a sense it demonstrates how important Music/Sound Track is in a film, trailer, Story or what ever you want to call it.

Strictly speaking I should not be posting this in here but some how it kind of fits!!!

This one's a real Hoot!

Hopkins, Mirren, et al, & they've got the perfect mix of outrageous action & black comedy.

Hook Factor 9

(Oh, I almost forgot, I like their slowly rotating titles on the red 3d space)

Unlike Red2, this one has super over the top action sequences, larger than life impossible stunts, yet zero humor

The way they've cut it sure pumps the adrenaline, but I gotta say... I miss the funny

Seems like people have been obsessed with Zombies, Vampires, and Bacon for the past few years. Maybe there's a connection? But people won't shut up about bacon. I mean it's good, but damn.

Yeah, if you eat enough bacon you will become a zombie.

Here's a new one, staring Simon's favorite actor... hehe... Well, ok, but it does have Rosario Dawson, which should make it slightly less painful to watch.

Some interesting techniques in this trailer, he ends with the strips which are also featured in the poster.
All effective.

Nice build of action here, the mounting music serves well, nice effects help too. No time for humor, although if you plan on destroying worlds, make sure you wear your scary bunny hat.

And you know that guy with the golden bow is saying to newly imposed government restrictions... "Sure, go ahead & try to restrict my ammo."

Looks epic, what say you?

My favourite ever trailer has to be Plunkette & Macleane. Funny, and actually has a narrative concept behind it.

Very few movie trailers have their own inherent narrative - they're just a collection of the big explosions, big CUs and dramatic moments all mixed up. So the only pull is the lure of stars and action sequences. It's much tougher to actually make a trailer that makes the audience want to watch a film based on a conceptual premise than just mugshots of big stars.

This is something indie and low budget films really need to get to grips with because it's much harder to convince people to watch a film with no SFX and no big stars. It has to be all about a captivating story sold in a compelling way.

After your soliloquy I was certain we'd be treated to some sort of a cerebral celebration like Howard's End or Remains of the Day. But this trailer was cut like every action movie trailer, raucous music, big explosions with momentary pauses for comic relief. Looks interesting though.

This is a slightly different style for an action cut. Lots more stops & starts (like all the best Elvis songs), pletny of fades to black, then a nice build to an apparent crescendo but that's when they scale back the disaster, not in magnitude (which they actually increase), but in fervency with a kind of balletic grace.

Ever wondered what it's like to ski an avalanche?

Some amazing stunts here, & absolutely gorgeous slowmo...

Not crazy about the music, but it's ok... enjoy

Different kind of style. Sorry that we're having so many action movies of late, but this one has an added component.

Besides the breathtaking action sequences, & momentary pauses for humor, we've also got .... romance!
Hehe.. also some spectacular cgi sets. Unfortunately the giants look a bit cartoonish in a few shots, though I do like the hiding under the water scene.

What you think? (Supposedly it's also in 3D)

Compare and contrast these two trailers for the same movie.

Are they designed to attract different audiences to the same film?

If so, which elements appeal to who?

Trailer A

Trailer B

Thanks for participating Alex. In a bit of a hurry right now, but I'll watch your 2 trailers a little later. Just saw something completely different & wanted to post it before I forgot (because it's really forgettable). We're often posting the trailers that grab us, or as I call it, have a high Hook Factor.

But this one, has zero Hook Factor. Why?
Great title & I might like some of the actors, even the concept, but have no desire to see the film.

What went wrong?

My personal feeling is the entire thing is night shots, but not really mysterious or engaging, secondly the attempts at action seem forced, fake & not exciting...

What you think?

Ok, I'm back, & yes the two cuts are immensely different. The first is more of a FX show reel, & amazingly spectacular. For me, that first one has just the right amount of storytelling to propel the trailer. The second one feels far too long & very slow getting started. The mistake they made is getting too bogged down in explaining the mythology. Not only are they trying to cram 2 hours of Greek into 2 minutes, they have a thick accented witch making the pitch. It's only once they revert back to the successful clips from the first trailer that the thing picks up steam. Lamentably the laborious lecturing of the first half left our interests languishing. Gotta love the way that cab arrives though, & the giant whirlpool of frozen shark fins? You can't top that.

It'll be a hit cause it targets the right demographic & looks like it delivers exactly what they want, cute kids, a budding romance, a myriad of magical effects & plenty of thrilling excitement.

That being said, someone dropped the ball on trailer 2, send him back to Nickelodeon TV spots.

Did I just hear someone request more outrageous over the top action?

Very little pauses for humor in this one, but they do the slow build (although it feels a bit predictable)
I do like the helicopter flying thru the credits, & of course the CGI is spectacular.

Oh yeah, the title is apparently not at all related to the latest bout of emerging daily scandals...

The Music is awful but you are right somehow it works ;-)

Amazing editing.

And

Did I just hear someone request more outrageous over the top action?

Thank you.

It is like a trailer for a trilogy!

Loved the switch to let the destruction of the world begin.

Another trailers. Dragons anyone?

That was a lot of fun. One thing we've really seen advance a lot in recent years are these epic panoramas of fantastical lands. What used to be flat dead matte paintings are now amazing worlds with depth & realism of creative imagination brought to life. This trailer has a few of those. However, the first time we see the "men" jumping from branch to branch it looks a bit fake though.

Still, it's all a great roller coaster ride. And blondie's back with his quick draw bow, but why is he prettier than the girl?

The characters at the end with the white beards are a hoot, but saving the dragon til the very end & the way they reveal him, is ominous. I'd kind of lost interest in this franchise, but I have to admit this trailer has a fairly high hook factor. I'd give it an 8.2

Still, right now, I'd say World War Z is creating the biggest buzz.

That being said. The other day I saw a real quality film with actual dialog & a real story.
Highly recommend it, though it's grossly underrated on IMDB.
