Some very funny parts, Princess Leia was the weakest, I'd have trimmed her screentime by about 15%. The ending isn't as strong as the rest. Chewbacca was hilarious. I would have preferred something more interesting with the lightsaber to fit with their now mundane existence. Like him cutting a French baguette or some cheese, then swatting at a fly with it. French films seem to be obsessed with aging now.

Enjoyed the humor, thanks for the share.

One of the scariest trailers that I know of.

And sure Daniel Day Luis steals the show.

The pacing is perfect slow and sloppy at the beginning.

The use of sound as punctuation marks.

Ratcheting the Edit into place!

Then the music turns a corner and becomes obsessive!

(reminds me of Arvo Pärt & tabula rasa)

The snippets of dialogue.

“I look at people and I see nothing worth liking!”

“I see the worst in people”

“I have a competion in me I want no one else to succeed”

“I cant keep doing this on my own”

“With these...”

And the Cherry on the cake Daniel Day Luis pauses, smiles and says the word “People!” and then laughs.

The hair stands up on the back of my neck just thinking about it.

Bokeh blob overload?

I particularly like the swirling mass of gold flakes that recurs throughout.
Using it with the credits gives us the sense that the character is being swallowed up, sinking into the gold dust... consumed by it...

Have to confess that whilst I respect the work that went into the Cirque du Soleil Trailer I know that the film would drive me crazy.

In much the same way that Moulin Rouge drove me crazy.

OTT (Over The Top)

Maybe I am just old fashioned ;-)

Loved the "Comes a Bright Day Trailer.

I think that the Music really does it for me.

The music is pretty mellow and yet tense.

Love the voice over and general pacing of the trailer.

It is an exercise in less is more.

Excellent stuff.

It reminds me a little of Sexy Beast which I might have mentioned in this thread already or another one in this forum.

The Sexy beast Trailer is not bad whereas the film for me is nothing short of a Master piece.

The way Don nearly always walks the wrong way through the frame from right to left, high angle shot of him in his nappy and the editing orgy towards the end with breaking into the bank and murder…

Sorry if i am repeating myself :-o

Gotta say that 'Sexy Beast' trailer is one of the rare instances where the movie is far better than the trailer. The music seems off to me.

I remember in the movie there was a brilliant extended scene where Kingsley is being driven to Winstone's house; the whole montage was set to a snare drum beat, ramping up the tension as he gets closer and closer. They should have tried to use that music or something; not the big band blues or whatever they were using in the trailer.

Anyway, great movie.

Yep Simon just thinking of "Sexy Beast" puts me in an I am not worthy kind of mode.

From the first Scene with the rock rolling down the cliff…

and as I said the heist scene intercut with the murder scene it is for me one of the craziest edits that I know.

It goes on for an eternity...

It is monumental. In a very monumental kind of way ;-)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monument_to_the_Battle_of_the_Nations

And yes I was in Leipzig over the weekend!

One of the many very interesting things about Sexy Beast is the framing.

A lot of it has to do with architecture.

Like this crazy villa with the pool and the conversations that go on and who is where in the frame and where the house is in the background - Phew.

Absolutely and utterly mind numbingly uncompromising :woohoo:

Here are 2 tracks with some monolgues by Kingsley, this will really get you in the zone(!):

Surely this music should have been used in the trailer?

Oh it so f**ken horribly beautiful

I agree the incessant droning with the high hats thrown in works better?

Tension any body :silly:

Love the "positive attitude, very important" quote :-)

And did you notice the the framing at 2:09, 2:30 or 4:54 (First Clip)

Monumental.

Shaking like a leaf. Yeah Ben

What an incredible script.

Having now seen the Cirque Du Soliel Worlds Away in entirety, I can confidently say it's exceptional. Spectacular stunts, amazing sets, million dollar contraptions, thrills, danger, romance & beauty, all with nary a word even spoken. Therefore it works in every language. A wonderful experience.

But that was the weekend, this week I enjoyed a little comedy crime ensemble.

Even the trailer has comedic timing, with a whimsical song.

The second World War Z trailer was just released.

If you thought the first one looked exciting, get a load of this one....

If you seen just one zombie apocalypse movie this year, it should probably be this one...

As you watch this one, ask yourself ... "Do you think they're trying to build intensity?"

He might want to lay off the caffeine, or at least take a sensitivity training class.

I like this style, yes we've seen it before, but I still like it. Add interesting music, nice mix of slomo & pyro... AND it's got Simon's favorite actor!

How do you tell a story everyone already knows?

Well start with an epic trailer; and this is an epic trailer.

Its quite long, and shows a lot, but its worth every second.

Its starts with a slow burn; a melancholy series of images set to a low piano. Then from 0.33 to 0.45 we get some beautiful imagery (very shallow DOF DSLR-look in fact).

Then the awesome music builds slowly, reaching a few crescendos in the middle, before launching into full scale epic when the drums come in towards the end.

In fact this is a masterclass in how to cut to the beat; look at the image during the first big crescendo at 1.30, and look at the way they cut to the drums starting from 2.05 onwards.

There so much going on in this 3 minute trailer; so many different tones and moods, so many different looks and sounds. Most excellent editing.

As to the movie: this makes me want to see it though I know in reality this will just be another predictable summer blockbuster. Still; this trailer offers a glimpse of what could have been:

Holy cow shit, that is one f**ken gorgeous trailer!

One of my pet theories about editing is that you have a point of interest on the screen a little bit like a fly buzzing around a pile of shit. When you edit from one picture to another you make sure that this point of interest/fly carries over into the next picture!

1:56 - 2:35 is just nothing short of pure bliss.

Starting with the clenched hand as a symbol of resolve.

Going through to landing in custody and beyond...

Bulls eye...

Kiss my udders and eat my hat. :woohoo:

Here's another great Zombie movie that's not your average zombie movie. It's called Fido.

Ok, so this is pretty cool. Stick with me for a minute. Daft Punk has their new album coming out. Giorgio Moroder collaborated on a song. While I'm waiting for the album to be released I figured I would listen to some of the collaborators.

Here's a Giorgio Moroder song called "Cat People" with David Bowey. All you have to do is mute the audio for the superman trailer above and start the trailer and the song at the same time. Just try it out, it's pretty interesting.
