Now that 10.2.3 is out, and rumors are that we'll see a 10.3 at NAB (most likely anyways)
What are the main feature requests that you think will happen in 10.3?

What are those features that realistically will happen and ones that are more stretches/dream features?

The thing I would most like to see, is the ability to attach titles, and sound to a secondary storyline.
It would also be nice to have a built in single point tracker for basic color correction, censoring, and titling.

I have absolutely no idea what the likelihood of any of those things happening is.

It would be nice to be able to manually override the pixel aspect ration of older footage, but I don't see that ever happening.

Color coding for clips. I hope to be able to assign different colors to clips like in Logic. Also, I'd love a customizable interface like Logic. Finally, and most importantly, I'd love to see a deeper implementation of roles for both video and audio, but primarily for audio as it will mean getting a capable mixer to FCPX. That's mostly it to be honest.

Also, I'd like to see something I don't even know I need until I see it.

I am hoping for roles based mixer.
The white target ball to move from the upper most clip to the clip below. It is a great idea that has a flaw in it, how to move the white ball to the lower clip???

Zoom into the clip in listview mode, why this has not been fixed, and no one comments on it, umm??? :(

2 timecode windows, with the 1st timecode window on the left to display duration of range, and the right, the original timecode window to show relative position of the playhead, with the total project duration below where it is at 10.2.3.

The number one frustration for me is not having a fixed duration display for ranges in browser and on the timeline, I would love to be able to toggle this on and off, separate toggle for browser and timeline. Having to Ctrl D for duration, a pain and wasted keystrokes.

Save window layout, totally support Karsten there.. 3 states as in FCP classic, default and 2 custom windows, with the ability to name them.

VIDEO on the IN ACTION PAGE... Let me see FCPX in action, for {censored} sake, in action is a doing thing, Apple you had video before, again please let us see FCPX in action, I loved the BBC video from FCP classic, it was that video that sold me on FCP, as I could see it in action, now a bunch of boring text, a 900 frame video better than 9 000 words!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here is what I really like to see in any further update:

Color Correction
- Internal motion tracker for masks (especially for color correction)
- Bezier shape masks
- Advanced controls on HSL masks
- RedRAW tab in the inspector instead of button on info tab with floating window
- More RedRAW settings (R-, G-, B-Gain, Curves, option to copy and pastes settings between clips, look memory banks)

Audio
- Better audio editing/management (Mixing based on audio roles. Importing audio roles from wav metadata)
- Automatic audio fading (expanding audio from clip, extend the range by x frames to the left and right, add x frames fade for multiple clips)
- Integrated speech transcription of interviews

Interface
- Projects as tabs above the timeline (instead of arrows with dropdown option)
- Overriding clip connections on/off button (next to the skimming and snapping button)
- Option to favorite or reject transitions, effects and generators.
- Extended information in the background tasks windows
- GPU and CPU usage indicator
- Show all missing media/effects/transition in a comprehensive way (with the ability to search/reconnect them)

Export
- Export multiple projects at once (instead of selecting every single project and hit export)
- Choice of export container (especially mp4)
- More options for h.264 export
- Choice of render engine (CPU or GPU)

Text
- Improve performance of the text generator (a few simple »custom« text generators slow down the interface by far)
- Copy and paste text parameters (like »in duration« or »in position«)
- Edit published parameters of multiple custom text generators at once (like video or text parameters)
- Remember expanded/hidden status of inspector items (like »Face«, »Outline«, »Glow« or especially Basic->Advanced)

I sent that list to apple as well via the feedback website.
What I would like to see the most is a more open communication regarding FCPX (and Logic and the nMP). They don't have to give out any secret information. Simply listen and talk to us!

Selected range durations are at the bottom of the browser and the bottom of the timeline.

Yes, I know that, that is not the problem, it is not where it needs to be. It is really in the wrong place. It only shows up as a in use form, not when the range is static in the browser.

If you create multiple ranges, in the same clip, you cannot see the duration of each range, as I explained toggle on and off, with the use of an F-key, would help greatly. I know not everyone needs it, no one on FCP.co or anywhere I have been able to research expressed a burning desire to share to multiple youtube accounts, yet this was in 10.2.3. Why I have no idea, not something I am likely to need.

Yes, fix the 1990 feedback page to include up to x MB jpeg screen grabs or pdf files. Having to dropbox shared links is so FCP7!

Interesting thoughts about 10.3.

I was watching a short series comparing Ppro and FCPX when it came to doing certain tasks, in Ppro you have to do what they call pancaking, stacking a number of timelines/projects to find the best from each, when FCPX does the same with smart collections.

I don't understand how people see the approach Ppro is taking as the best, I love the way smart collections work, the way you can select a range, hide rejected and so on.

I know this is a huge source of annoyance for Richard Taylor, and for me, the inability of FCPX to attach a secondary clip to a secondary clip, it has to attach to the primary storyline.

Scrolling timelines, is that a huge source of frustration? Again a toggle to activate or disable scrolling of the timeline, or set in preferences.

Many of the desired features really I feel could be set in preferences as a global feature, common to all projects, and if you feel it is unneeded, then a simple toggle on/off in preferences.

Proxy files. Really the inspector needs a new category, I have listened to a number of podcasts, and I think some have missed the point about proxy being temp files. If in 10.3 proxy was made a defined category, as it was in classic, a "scratch or temp file location" then this may solve some misunderstanding around proxy.

Having to change mid way through a project, then that only changes what happens after the change, is a bit arse about away of doing things. Set the proxy files in the import window might be away to solve this. Thoughts?

Stop adding new features and eye candy.
Carefully fix anything and everything that is either broken or not working as users expected.
Save the new stuff for version 11.

My, what a sad attitude to have, save it for version 11 !

That is no fun at all, how boring your life must be, I love this testing and using, of seeing what comes next, of the drama when things well dont quite work as expected!!

I hope Apple does not do that, that would just be so sad, to not have an update until V11!! :(

I need a way to export:
MXF XDCAM HD 18Mb/s
I currently have to export out of FCPX then transcode it in Adobe Encore.
It'd be nice to have more control to get exactly what I need in Compressor. Currently it's more like a ton of presets that can only slightly be changed.
I fear, though, at it's current $50 price tag, it won't ever get this. Looking on Telestreams website, their transcode software is $500+

An awesome Audio Mixer that can be used by both amateurs and professionals to hammer down audio details.

There's still a glitch (On some computers) that makes the video jump during a transition from video to title to video. Even when exported it still jumps. My coworker and I can't figure this out...and it's been this way since the beginning of FCPX. Sometimes restarting FCPX and/or the computer fixes the issue. It even does it on a clean install of FCPX and OS.

That's it for me.

I am not sad.
I am not depressive.
I enjoy my life, my wife, my cat, and my bicycle fully.
My career as a photographer and video producer has been fascinating, rewarding, and full of surprises you can only imagine.
I have no need for Apple's drama at this point.
I do not want to test Apple's new software for them (I did that for a few iterations of FCP because Shane Ross had cool connections. Apple didn't pay me, tawdry basterds, heck, they didn't even listen to me, but I think I got a t-shirt).

Bogisan, I do not expect there to be any further drama around a popular editing platform, why not stick with Final Cut Studio 3? It is free from any updates!

@Abercrombie

Lots of good input there.

How about fixing keyframing?

I don't use it a lot but when I do I wish for the type of keyframing in Motion. Proper easing etc.

In my work I experience two major frustrations - which I think a pretty fundamental:

1) I can understand the challenge of designing an audio mixer - which is inherently a track based paradigm (although roles based can solve this as others have said). But from an audio point of view, having no ability to even properly meter beyond peak level the master output is a very serious flaw, which involves many (sometimes time consuming) steps to work around even in relatively simple projects. I would like to see at bare minimum a master channel strip which can accept effects.

2) Text editing is cumbersome - especially when there is more than one title in play. One tool that could help is a way to cycle through clips that are under the current playhead position with a key command, cutting down mouse movement back and forth from either the info panel or viewer when editing text. Also being able to option click the parameter disclosure triangle to reveal or hide all text parameters at once, and recall of last parameters shown when switching between titles - saving many extra mouse clicks when doing the same type of adjustments across multiple titles

Having said all that - FCPX is really such a great tool. I love the fact that I can bring inexperienced editors in and quickly have them make meaningful contributions to projects...
