It does not have to be super powerful, a tiny bit bigger with the same specs as a 13 in laptop, I do not mind paying a premium, have to here anyway, so a bit more, just a tad longer to save, I am sure it would be more popular than you might expect.

RE: 10.2.3 Why the strife? It's an update, no complaints from me unless it broke something!

FCP is an affordable solution for quality video editing, speculating based on price alone the overall user base is larger than Adobe at least for Apple Computer users.

<sigh>

My number one update requests are STILL

1) AUDIO !! - I really need better mixing - multiple meters (one per lane) and an overall group to apply effects to.

2) Motion Round Tripping !! C'mon Apple, how hard could this be?

Oh well. Maybe next time...

Why the strife? It's an update, no complaints from me unless it broke something!

Couldn't agree more.

I think we can see this as a useful bug fix and performance update, preceding a feature update that will probably be tied to El Capitan.

We also should be aware of the fact that, in any software development setup, different people can be working on totally different aspects of the application at the same time. It is highly probable that, while this bug fix update was being prepared by a small part of the team, others have already been working on new features for some time. And these features will be released on a later date. Whenever that is, I would encourage them not to hastily add new features just for the sake of it. People who also use another NLE know very well to what this can lead...

FCP X isn't feature-complete yet, far from. And I'm pretty sure that the FCP X product management isn't thinking any differently. But at this time, performance and stability are the most import unique selling-points for FCP X. I can only hope they will keep concentrating on these points, while carefully adding new features that will be useful for a majority of their user base. I absolutely endorse leaving the development of specialized features to third-party developers. This adds special functionality for those who really need it, without bloating the code and sacrificing overall performance or stability.

I agree with you Ronny.

FPCX work fine for me. I would like to see tracking, 3D import, but I can use and I use plug-in for that and maybe a lot of people don't need this. Maybe it's a good choice from Apple.

I don't know what be useful for a lot of people, maybe roundtrip, audio only crossfade, audio group as Dave_EP need, best integration of audio in Motion...

For now, I like to see bug fixes I never see ! and AVC-LongG coming.

(sorry for bad english)

I agree with DigiGal and ronny .... I don't get all the hand wringing and gnashing of teeth.

Where is it written that Apple owes us any substantial free new feature laden update to FCP X? This update ... just like all the updates offered for FCP X since it's introduction in 2011 ... is a free bonus to ALL FCP X users.

Sure the multiple accounts improvement to YT may seem like a waste of effort ... but perhaps it is merely a result of YouTube updating their SDK and Apple plugged it in with little time and effort on their part. Either way, I doubt that Apple expend much in the way of resources on this effort that caused hardship or delay of something more universally desired.

I too questioned the previously introduced 3-D text feature ... in the era where "flat" design seems to be all the rage ... but the fact we can now create 3-d object animation from an .svg file by fooling the effect into thinking it is a font character ... that's rather cool and useful.

Secondly ... the slow evolution to move color correction to an effect and now users can designate their own flavor du jour starting point with a simple keyboard command ... that is going to save me hundreds of man hours over the remaining lifespan of FCP X. Now I can apply a Color Finale adjustment including my base LUT for my cameras with a simple keyboard command. Time is money and this is a huge time saver.

While this most recent update may not rank at the top of any historical list of greatness when compared to other updates ... I, for one, find it extremely valuable and appreciate Apple's effort to provide me with additional benefit .... at no additional financial expenditure.

The rabble-rousing is a bit disconcerting. The program works better than any other source/record NLE and there will always, always be a discrepancy between feature implementation and desire. The FCPX 5th year anniversary is coming up in a few short months. Attention might be best focused in that direction for substantial feature additions, lest the cycle of entitlement continue! Until then, happy and busy cutting to all.

..... but after five years I was really hoping for better audio handling. Not even Logic-Pro came to the rescue.

As I said, nothing indicates that this will not happen. And nothing indicates that we will have to wait too long for this. Talking with some people during the latest IBC, I found that they are fully aware of the need for improving some audio features.

Fair enough. I'd like a live mixer and better tactile control as much as anyone but, what NLE works better for you?

For the multi-channel audio I deal with, the immeasurable time saved with the magnetic timeline, roles, and clip grouping far outweighs the nuisance of its mixing lapses. Especially when everything, at least for me, ends up in ProTools.

Everyone's needs are different. There are dozens of workflows to accommodate any of FCPX's shortcomings, until they are fixed. Impatience won't help the features arrive sooner, as the dev team no doubt has heard the same complaints for years.

I've calmed down a bit now. I was in the office at 7am on a motion graphics job with a deadline and no sleep :)

To the people who pointed out the updates are free - good point and one to well remember every time my Creative Cloud membership comes round. The favourite effect shortcut is going to save me tons of time and it already feels more stable.

Nothing's stopping me earning money with FCPX so all is good :-)

Since I upgraded mid-project, I finished color correcting in record time with Color Finale set to opt+E. So glad I didn't wait to upgrade!

BruceB wrote: To other C300 MKII folks... Just did the update to FCPX 10.2.3, inserted the CFast card from the C300 MKII and tried to import some footage. FCPX did not see the clips inside the Contents folder. I had to move the Clips folder to the top level and then it worked... This was the same with the pervious version. Not sure what I'm missing or doing wrong here... Thoughts? Thank you!

to get c300 to work, try updating fcpx to 10.2.3 and install the canon plugin linked from this page:

You need to install the new Canon XF Plugin for Final Cut Pro X 3.1, which came out yesterday:

Was having similar issues and this solved it.

The greatest thing about this 'update' for me? It means I haven't been wasting my time in my learning and transitioning to Media Composer. 5 years, and we're still waiting for simple features to return that were the bedrock of FCP7. FCP7 Remember that? Ahhhh, those were the days! As for those stating that we 'shouldn't complain with all these "free" updates': if they were implemented from the beginning like they should have been - there would be no need to constantly continue 'updating' like this. We're unpaid beta-testers, that's what we are: 5 years of beta-testing, and on top of not being paid - we were the ones who actually paid for the privilege! IF there is a major update in April that finally does address the actual professional needs and issues that we have - fantastic, but at this rate, I'll probably have completed my transition to MC by that time: my word, editing on that gives me goosebumps the more I work on it!

ls that why Media Composer is NEVER updated? No, all NLE's are constantly updated with new features, improved workflows. Oh, except Avid, who is falling so far behind the times it isn't funny. I can get through work in FCPX in a fraction of the time I can in MC. If what you say is true, Arsecati, how are feature films being done in FCPX? How are reality TV shows being done in FCPX? From your claim, it is useless. Fact is, it isn't. And you couldn't pay me enough to go back to FCP7. Super full of bugs, very clunky, long winded workflow, unstable. And with a few exceptions (such as Ronney), as a freelance trainer, over the past decade +, I've seen a greater number and variety of Macs running FCP in a month that most do in a lifetime.

So, what professional features STOP you from using FCPX? What is lacking that forces you to learn MC? Probably the most bug filled and difficult to use NLE on the planet.

If MC is all that, why is it being updated all the time, like PPro and FCPX? Because Avid is making you beta test an NLE that is way too old and outdated, still?

Your facts don't add up.

What Apple did with junking the trusted and proved reliable track based interface was way beyond brave, and at first many people loathed the interface, as BenB says, could not pay enough to go back.

Just the ability to slide clips and not have the dreaded clip collision is worth the price of the NLE, beyond rock solid multi-cam, green screening is a dream, the audition feature, the new save as default effect, a massive timesaver.

Everything that is digital is in some form or another a beta, we buy it, we love it, we comment on it, it still gets improved, it does not matter, if it is a car, a plane, a train, a toaster oven, a tv, a shower-head, everything invented is being improved.

FCPX is a work in progress, I slammed the most recent update, as well it really could have waited a few more weeks, we got this far without it, 8 weeks really not an issue, but the new features are great, love them.

I would hate to have to edit in track mode again, the limitations of this, and why is FCPX not more widely supported, it will be, I have yet to see the same level of support for AVID and Adobe on the interwebs as there is for FCPX.

Websites, tutorials, radio shows, NAB stands set up for FCPX, meetings in the UK, the USA people are going all out for FCPX, why? When something is this good, people will make an effort...And I thank them for going the extra mile, thank you to Ripple, Sam, Trevor Payton, Brendan Boykin, they have all made a huge effort!!!
