FCPX update to 10.2.3
The zero effort marketing has put into it, the lack of video on the "in action" page, the 6 months between updates, the lack of any meaningful useful updates, 3D text is ok, truthfully was expecting a rebadged LiveType to be released.
I hope if FCPX is EOL, Adobe stops with the rental, I hate piracy, but I cannot afford the costs of a monthly subscription that is more than my rent...

Default effect shortcut will save a lot of time adding ColorFinale to clips which is good!
Rant aside, I'd be very interested to hear from someone about the libraries over SAN and how this helps with multiple editors as it's something I'm going to need to know upscaling this year.
Also, if there's more stability in FCPX which has been shaky since El Capitan, I'll be happy

Doing 1 or 2 updates a year, not putting in obvious improvements sends a clear message, "We feel development of this product does not warrant the time and money you feel it does"
Obvious features lacking, yet someone suggested multiple youtube accounts..A feature I would never see the obvious need for.
End of Life, through the lack of investment it feels like that, this update does not change my mind in that regard.

What surprised reaction since you early access!
BenB wrote: Did you not see I wrote "Verified"? But hey, if you want to argue with RT themselves, go right ahead.
Again, RT, Larry Jordan, myself, no one who has access to an unreleased version would have post, or be allowed by Apple to post a screen shot, video, or any information about it. Simple fact.
But, believe what you want...
But why not I can agencies finding this feature very useful. Besides maybe it was on the top of the request list.

… talking about EOL is completely nonsense, and you know it :silly:
FCPX is a highly developed, professional tool which sells like icecream in summer.
Some comments around the web read like written from a disappointed lover…
I guess, 'we' expected a lil' more than just a minor maintenance update… that roles/LX thingie, or some new 'killer' feature.
… but why 'multiple YT accounts' made it in this update is still a mystery for me...

- The playhead could jump ahead when editing short titles
- The timeline could stop playback when switching views in the Browser
There are only two major things I'd like to see myself now, audio mixing improvements (and we know they have a patent for this) and ability to set different default window layouts.

On Episode 1 (12-27-15) of Final Cut Pro Radio Podcast, Sam Mestman discusses libraries over SAN. His main focus is on Lumaforge's ShareStation ( lumaforge.com/ ), but he talks in general about workflow:robertdee wrote: ....I'd be very interested to hear from someone about the libraries over SAN and how this helps with multiple editors as it's something I'm going to need to know upscaling this year...

Faster speed over SAN is a huge deal, though, for broadcast. That by itself is a step in the right direction for a pro app.
I'd not blame the programmers or anyone on the FCPX team, they know what should be done. I'd blame the executive level, who were the ones responsible for the screwed up release of FCPX. They make a lot of dumass decisions about pro apps and productivity apps, that the dev teams find infuriating.

Yet now we have a rockstar non linear editing system, and really poor decisions are letting the dev team down, it must be so frustrating to read comments here and know there is either something better, or nothing better coming.
Also frustrating must be the negative comments about the extremely long delays in pushing out updates and feature requests, almost sad really.
I cannot shake the feeling that Apple is becoming bored with pro apps as a whole.

Somehow it's a bit our fault: we keep hoping they will listen to Pro needs but they have never promised so since the release.
As you said Ben, the software is great (almost), it's the management, marketing, PR, that is completely out of place.
I find very worrying that from what you're saying, developers are frustrated.

Of course there are things I would like to see added, but I keep making money with FCPX and I'm heckofalot faster on it than I ever was on FCP. Life is good!

A part of what Apple is doing very badly is certification, it is important to me to have done the certification, only to learn that the certificate is valueless, if Apple place no value in it, or basically refuse to invest in it, and Apple Inc have earned well over $1billion in FCPX sales and sales of hardware to run FCPX, why are they refusing to market and promote and place value in something so trivial?
All of this speaks loudly of Apple's attitude, it is not what you say that is important, it is often more important what you don't say that sends a clear message. Apple's refusal to market FCPX, Apple's refusal to invest in decent certification and a career path tells me they are clearly not interested in it, that Pro Apps as a whole, in fact all Apple Apps are of very little interest, that is Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Logic X, Photos, and Final Cut Pro X.
There should be an open dialogue as to what we the users want, the feedback page our only real link to comment to Apple is old, outdated, and not fit for purpose, it works, yes, but not very well, it works about as well as a Tin Lizzy on the interstate!!!
More to the point, we as users are placating Apple.
Ripple Training, Tom Wolsky, Sam, and others that have the ear are speaking from their own interests, sure they have a vested interest as they make money from tutorials. Without them we would be lost, but why is it that Sam, and others are doing the marketing, the promoting, and get very little, mostly no support from Apple??
If Apple had faith and did feel the need warranted it, why not have video on the in action page on Apple.com? Invest in a bigger laptop of 17 inches, for those that cannot really afford a 21 inch imac, where a 13 inch is just way too small???
It is these decisions that are made by Apple, to not produce for really no obvious reason? I would have saved a year longer and bought a 17in with 8 GB RAM, instead of this tiny basically crappy 13inch laptop.
That is my concern, it is what Apple is not doing that bugs me.

I, for one, refuse to placate Tom Wolsky.

I can't make sense of this at all. Apple produces a 5K iMac at a lower cost than a 15" MBP (on the high end), which is also cheaper than a 17" MBP was at the time. The 5K iMac rivals the Mac Pro, and the 15" MBP isn't far behind that. I'm currently cutting 4K on a MBP and it's faster than 1080p ever was on my old 17". A larger screen doest't mean "pro" at all, and the 15" MBP is almost 3K in size.
I think the key take away here is "can't afford a 21 inch iMac," Apple has never made a super cheap professional machine—the parts are expensive. Yes, Apple needs to make a profit too. Is it just the hobbyist that complains about the price? To me, these machines are much cheaper than they were years ago—and can do a lot more.

You have to understand that the world is not America, here, at the arse end of Africa, the exchange rate, the price inflation heaped on by a dodgy Apple supplier makes everything 2 or 3 times more expensive than in the USA, so I have to make things last. What is cheap for you, is way way too expensive here.
So if I am going to spend way way more than I really want to, I want it to be the best device for multiple uses, I would rather have a large 17in device and 17in is really not that much more than 13inch, it is 1 inch on all 4 sides, which is not much, but makes a huge difference in editing with older worn out eyes!!!

Since the return of Jobs, Apple has focused on a streamlined product line. There are always niche products that make sense for some user, somewhere. However there is development, production and distribution costs for those, plus it complicates a product line.
A good example of "make something for everbody, no matter what it does to our product line" is Dell. Their web site is so cluttered and complex it's hard to figure out exactly how many lines they have, who they are for, and which one to order.
It is also easier to maintain quality with a more restricted product line. Along with hundreds of other models, Dell makes a virtual iMac clone, the XPS 27. It has roughly the same performance and price but looks like it was designed in the former Soviet Union. It's much thicker and heavier and acoustically a lot louder. IOW if Herman Munster was a real person it would be his all-in-one computer. That is partially due to a highly fragmented product line.
Another example is when Apple was developing Final Cut, supposedly marketing people presented Jobs plans for various versions, Microsoft-like. IOW Final Cut Jr, Final Cut Home, Final Cut Small Business, Final Cut Super Pro, etc. To a marketing person you want as many as possible because each one represents possible additional sales.
Supposedly Jobs took the presentation materials, threw them in a single box and said "that's how many versions we're going to have -- one!"
I personally think a 17-inch MacBook is a great idea, for the reasons you stated. However there are valid reasons for Apple limiting the product lines.
