Tried this. Does not work. Remember you've gotta wait nearly a day before the update will pop back up. Everyone should report this. I want somebody at Apple to feel like an idiot for this. They should be embarrassed. I will report it each and every time it happens for me.

Agreed. I reported it.
This isn't a dance we should have to go through.

The problem does not require waiting a day ( for me at least ). A few days ago I installed the update again for the 6th time from the App Store. Repaired permissions and rebooted. Upon reboot I went to software update and it showed up immediately. I did the same download, repair perm and reboot again. Software update brought it back each and every time. .

I will say that following the recommendation to remove files in the QuickTime folder and then update, it has not yet returned.

You're right, it doesn't require waiting a day. The App Store app only checks for updates once per day I guess. But it if you launch the app itself (which I NEVER do unless it has a red light on it) the Pro Apps 2.0.1 update will show up again. Maybe you have to give it an hour or reboot or something.

Removing the items from the Quicktime folder, rebooting and then replacing the ones that weren't in there does not work. Wouldn't it be a problem with the receipts or whatever they are called? I doubt Software Update goes and checks the actual files, just the receipt that says what version you have.

Here is a thread on Yosemite forum that could be interesting to read discussions.apple.com/thread/7006966
I agree we should not tolerate this, I have also reported this to Apple even though this issue is solved for me

Btw this is not by any means the first time has happened. It happened for some on previous Pro Video codec updates and has happened for other application. It's been reported more than once before and is thought to be an App Store problem.

I copied the contents of the Library/Quicktime folder to a 32GB flash drive, ejected the flash drive, then deleted the contents of the Library/Quicktime folder, ran the App Store, it picked up that the Pro Video Codec 2.0.1 needed updating, ran the update, checked the Library/Quicktime folder 6 new files intalled, re-booted, then copied across only the files that were not the same on the flash drive, re-booted, then ran the app store again, no updated 2,0.1.

To date I have not had to re-install the update. Apple should have published either the fix or fixed the update as it was reported before the weekend. In the end no further issues to report.

I had the same problem and I used Pacifist as suggested in the Apple discussions thread and it solved the problem for me. Shouldn't have had to do that though.

I think the solution might actually be this:

1 - Remove all of the files from Library/Quicktime and put them in a temporary folder.
2 - Run the ProApps update.
3 - Close the App Store app. Open it back up and check for new updates. Nothing should be found.
4 - Restore the files that you moved from the folder earlier back into it.

Having the App Store check for new updates seems to be the key. Once it sees it has installed properly it forgets worrying about that particular update.

Seems to work for me so far, but let me give it a full 24 hours.

That seems correct. That is exactly what I did and it has been over 24 hours. I have checked for updates several times yesterday and today and it has said no updates available ever since I did the QuickTime file solution.

So is it installing the update but the app store thinks it hasn't? or is the update not actually being installed?

If it is installing it then it's easy enough to ignore the update prompt in the app store!

I'm not really sure, but I expect the update is actually being installed and the registration of the update isn't working properly.

As mentioned by a few others this worked for me:

1 - Remove all of the files from Library/Quicktime and put them in a temporary folder.
2 - Run the ProApps update.
3 - Close the App Store app. Open it back up and check for new updates. Nothing should be found.
4 - Restore the files that you moved from the folder earlier back into it.

The procedure above as mentioned by others worked for me. I didn't need Pacifist.

This same thing happened to me with a previous version of FCP X. After getting excited that there was an update I realized it was the same version I already had. I learned to just ignore it and eventually it went away.

This one is more annoying because it's not obvious that you already have the most current version as it was with the application.

Yet this update is not actually part of Final Cut Pro X itself, I kept getting the same update message, so I deleted FCP X, re-installed X, yes the update needed to be done, so I did the copy the library/quicktime as I explained in a previous post, so far 2 days and no message about new Pro Video Codecs...

The restart of the App Store seems key, it worked for me!

Thanks!

(way easier that a complete reinstall, haha)

No harm in a re-install...As it was, the re-install did not include the Pro video codec update..I was sure it would, more than a bit surprised after re-install of FCP X, I still had the pr video codec to re-install...
