I did install Pro Video Formats 2.0 though and importing (and relinking to!) MXF also works for FCP X 10.1.3

Too many bugs and fixes, not enough moving forward. Sorry, but from a die hard FCPX supporter and trainer, that's what I'm seeing now.
sucks... ugh... so falling behind...

As for MXF support, I am very excited. It was always a huge PITA before when sending to different media outlets and specific camera types.
Overall I am very happy with the listed features, but to be fair, haven't taken it through an extensive test drive.
I think we will see either a Yosemite specific update or even a paid update in the next few months.
Just my two cents.

There's been hints of upcoming features- around Audio, Color Correction... the expanded Frameworks that Philip Hodgetts wrote about recently certainly open up LOADS of possibilities. But the biggest features we've been waiting for are the same ones since probably 10.0.6... always seemingly just over the horizon.
While they don't time releases to it, I would very much hope that we'd see a BIG release before NAB. FCPX has been picking up steam over the last year- I hope Apple doesn't squander the good will they've got by not being aggressive enough with development.

For a medium-sized production company having to purchase third-party solutions just for native MXF import and export can easily make a difference of 10,000 $ in their software budget. For large setups this can make a difference of +100K, even with volume licensing. But also individual producers, who only need to occasionally deliver programs for broadcast, will be happy with having a free solution built right into FCP X now and not having to rent Media Encoder or spend 900 bucks on third-party plugins to create their delivery package. Not to mention the large number of news reporters and camera operators who finally can import the MXF footage from their Panasonic or Sony ENG cameras natively in their NLE and stream their edited reports in the standard MXF format straight onto the media servers of their stations.
Native MXF support was long overdue. That's why I am pretty excited about this evolution. Purchasing MXF4Mac and making it free just for the sake of their broadcast clients clearly shows Apple's commitment to FCP X in enterprise-level workflows. Seeing this I don't think anyone can pretend anymore that "Apple does not care about the pros" without sounding utterly ridiculous. I am pretty sure a more general feature update is also in the pipeline for the near future. One does not necessarily exclude the other.

Saved me a lot of time for typing.
I 100% agree with Ronny.
And I haven't thought that it would have been this short difference in time between MXF4mac's disappearance in the rebirth in FCP X.
Congrats to the FCP X team.

It is perfectly safe to download the new pro formats, you don't need to uninstall Calibrated.

I knew this was coming but I admit they have taken me by surprise by the speed they have been able to implement the MXF workflow.
An important footnote here is that MXF is NOT related to the 10.1.4 update at all. When you install the Pro Media update you also get the MXF import and export functionality in 10.1.3. This makes me feel confident that a more extensive feature update is coming in the near future.

are sure that it gives MXF export functionality to 10.1.3 as well? When I look at the folder where the MXF component is stored (/Library/QuickTime/AppleMXFImport.component) I only find an import component.

I got it by chance cause I was involved in parts of the MXF4mac business.
And as said I am astonished how fast everything is integrated into FCP X.
@ All
The Codec update alone is worth a few hundred bucks Christmas gift. MXF for all QT aware apps from 10.6.x thru 10.10.x
And as Ronny said it is one of the biggest contributions of Apple to the broadcast market (since years) and makes Apple an even more serious player there.
But again - just my 2 cents

For export you either need 10.1.4 or Compressor. With Compressor you can build your own export templates.
