Well to me this WWDC graphic says it all. appleinsider.com/articles/14/05/27/apple...2-wwdc-2014-keynote-

Meaning what? What is it you find yourself going to AE to do?
That said, motionVFX said recently a lot of their coding challenges for mObject are based around the fact that Motion still uses a very old version of OpenGL. |

I'd love to see it- whether it's at an amazing price, OR if it's an optional upgrade. As far as the aTV goes, I'd love to see them make it 4K and h.265 compatible. Even if Apple isn't ready to start distributing 4K material via iTunes, it would at least allow 3rd parties like Netflix, Vimeo, and YouTube to push their 4K content thru the box. |

Well for distributing 4K Material you would need a serious Server-Farm.

Not trying to rain on anybody's parade but I don't think we'll see anything in 4K from Apple this year. The price point just isn't there yet.

I agree but we have heard the same before Apple released Retina and SSD. ![]() |

For TVs, yes. But in computer displays, 4K panels are coming down in price. And I think Apple wants to move Retina to the desktop in time for this Fall's OSX update. So even if they offer a 4K ACD as an option at, I dunno, $2500... I think it will sell well to it's intended user base. Let's never forget how much the original 30" ACD cost. $3500! |

I have the feeling that 10.1.2 will bring feature updates as well as bug fixes. Based on what? Just my intuition and the imminent release of DaVinci Resolve 11. Think about it. After NAB 2014, all the buzz is around wether "Resolve 11 is what FCPX should have been", "the track based version of FCPX" that some people are still wishing for, and a new competitor to the more established NLEs for creative editing. My bet is that right around the time BlackMagic releases Resolve 11 (the anticipated date is June, right around the corner), Apple will release an impressive update to FCPX in order to change the conversation entirely. Then people will see Resolve 11 as it is, a great online editor and color corrector, and an ideal companion to FCPX with seamless integration. People will then talk about how much FCPX has improved as a creative cutting tool, how Apple is committed to develop this exciting new way of editing... and how far away from that is still DaVinci Resolve (and maybe even its direct competitors: Premiere Pro and Avid). At least that's what I'm hoping for! I guess we'll see about that in the coming weeks. |

Well I know for certain that 10.1.2 will be released when those people do that stuff and then those things at that place and stuff and junk. So we now know the exact release date. Plus, it is reviled in a secret code embedded in the Mayan calendar, too. I mean, duh! Everybody know that! Right? Damn, can't remember if I took my meds today... Anyway, that is the exact date, it's so obvious.

I don't think application development happens as fast as you're thinking it does. For any piece of software like this, the roadmap stretches out for years with varying levels of detail. Apple can't (and shouldn't) be crafting releases based on what Blackmagic did in April. Whatever Apple has planned for 10.1.2 was already nailed down months ago. Maybe many months. Apple isn't typically a reactionary company. It's going to do it's own thing regardless what people are saying. |

I think the price point isn't there yet, but I think more importantly there isn't much content. |

FCPX 10.1.2 PRE-RELEASE DISCUSSION 30 May 2014 00:44 #46959
I'm as in the dark as anyone, I'm not beta testing anything, I'm not privy to any info or anything. But everyone seems tunnel vision on FCPX updates. We all know Motion and Compressor need some major updates. Has anyone given thought that one day we see a release of FCPX with some bug fixes, but a huge, MAJOR update to either Motion or Compressor? Just throwing it out there, just saying...

Compressor still has more to go but 4.1 was a big step forward. High Profile CABAC was a really valuable improvement.
Someone should create a Motion "hit list" of things that could be added/changed. Of course some would find "Send to Motion" an important step. |

From my own perspective, I think FCP X still has the most to be done- so I'm more focused on X updates than either Motion or Compressor.
My use of Compressor is fairly basic- so other than seeing new codecs added as they become available (like h.265), I'm not sure what I'd want done to it, now that it's received it's long overdue UI overhaul. Before the release of 10.1, many of us were speculating on what might be done with Motion. I think many of the things that separate it from AE are 3rd party products. Things like 3D motion tracking, or a more advanced particle generator are two such things that come to mind. I'm not sure if now that Motion supports FX Plug 3, that will help to spur developers like Red Giant or Trapcode to port some of their more popular plugins to Motion. I hope so. Beyond that I don't know. I like the way the interface works. Some better dual monitor support would be nice (like X), and of course better Motion/FCP X interchange would be great. But to a certain extent I think the conversation is moot. My limited understanding is that they are not the same development teams- so again, like "features" vs "bug fixes", I'm not sure it has to be an either/or scenario. |

FCPX 10.1.2 PRE-RELEASE DISCUSSION 31 May 2014 15:28 #47042
Poor timeline control performance should be improved.
When you edit a 40mins TV project, it's quite easy to have more than 1000 connected clips even without subtitles (for example when 1 video file has 8 audio files connected) , the timeline is quite slow even using mac pro 2013 (3.5G 6core+ 2*D500). If over 1000 subtitle connected clips are added on then, I don't think fcpx can edit smoothly! |
