That is an interesting differentiation! plus, there's an unsharp borderline when it comes to compositing... for example: 'dust-particles' - motion-graphic? visual-effect? 3D-graphic?

Tuesday? :woohoo:
... some historians should research, how it came, that Apple decided for Tuesday as launch-days .. Nice tradition, no doubt ..

... looking forward for 'price' ... for that amount of performance, it'll get hefty (just compare to Twixtor) ...

If there is then I guess motion gets less and less light.

In the US Tuesday is the new release (music and movies) day.

Scrubelicious wrote: I kinda agree with you , but as I mentioned before I see Apple Motion as a Motion graphics application and After Effects as Visual Effects.

Still if you strip out the 3Rd party support there are still features in After Effects that Motion is lacking to put it in the spotlight.

Don't get me wrong I really love Motion and its interface (have been using is since v1... what ruff ride it was ;) ) but for simple and quick graphics, it's great! I've done large and extensive projects in Motion arrgghh...

I don't disagree. What are the key non-3rd party features to your reckoning?

Really looking forward to tomorrow's mObject release. I already have a job ready.

Wow, that was a LONG download. But very exciting! This means I'll do very little animating and almost no exporting from Modo!

Ben let me know how well it works... if it is as good as After Effects and Cineware then maybe we will go with it.

Does it support Cinema 4D files?

Obj files only, but I think that's a standard export option from most 3d software, isn't it?

For vectors, svg is the file format.

I'm starting in on a job with it today. Playing around with it last night, I'm fairly amazed at just how much of the functionality from element they've been able to emulate in this first version. A very far cry from its humble beginnings as mExtrude over a year ago.

Have you tried importing any of the Element 3d models into it?

Yes. There was a free iPhone model provided with a Video Copilot tutorial a while ago. It came in just fine.

Just like with Element, I'm sure not all files will import perfectly from somewhere like Turbo Squid, since there are a few specific obj options that need to be turned on for textures to come in properly. These are described in one of the tutorials.

I would say at this point, the tutorials are a MUST DO! This is a very powerful plugin, fantastic stuff. And I'm finding the price for what it does to be flat out amazing. But there are a lot of little things, so the tutorials are really important. I recommend watching them first, for sure.

I very much agree with Ben on the tutorials- I'll be re-watching them again myself today. And overall, this is simply a must buy for Motion users.

I'd like to see some even deeper tutorials from MotionVFX- perhaps with some of their top animators walking thru the process of creating some of the material from the mObject demo.

I've said for a while now that Motion really does need it's own Andrew Kramer- I think if people could really get a sense of what Motion could do, a lot of editor/graphics guys might consider moving from AE to Motion for the work they do.

First you would have to find someone on a pay check that creates similar projects as Mr. Kramer.
I doubt you will.

I looked at this plugin tutorials, it works more like a 3D model loader that uses Motion to Render.
It might speed up some of your projects but I think I will get a better result working with a 3D artist.

What were you expecting? You can now create Motion scenes with 3D objects integrated.

It depends entirely on what you're trying to achieve. The demo gives a fair overview of the level of graphics you could hope to achieve.

Several times a year I'm asked to do some graphic involving putting someone's website on an iPhone, Laptop, or whatever. Being able to integrate a 3D model of that element, as opposed to just putting it on a still add tremendous production value- value you can charge for.

Wether you'll get a better result from hiring a separate 3D artist is entirely based on your personal skill level. And I'd entirely agree that animation past a certain point should go to an animator. Something I definitely don't classify myself as anymore. But as a motion graphics artist, having 3D objects integrated into my primary tool is, honestly, pretty awesome.

(One of) the real benefits for FCPX users is that you can publish a graphic out from Motion to X, and elements like text would be entirely editable within the NLE. That's a HUGE time-saver over going back to the 3D artist and getting them to render multiple names for lower3rds or titles.

MotionVFX is releasing a FREE model pack tomorrow (Friday) consisting of basically the entire current Apple product lineup. I've been having trouble finding models that import properly (not mObjects fault- I had this issue with Element3D as well), and these are the kinds of objects I use in a lot of jobs. So this is easily a $50 value for me.
