If it works as advertised this will be a great addition to FCPX/Motion workflows. Thank you for posting this.

It's great stuff! It will surely join SliceX as a nearly essential tool for FCPX and especially Motion users.

Don't forget TrackX! Too bad it doesn't work on generators because it would be awesome to take this mObject and use TrackX to have it... well... track something.

Is there any other information on this? It's not listed on their site.

They've just finished a Beta period and it will be released by the end of the month. No pricing yet, but I'd expect it to be up there with other high-end FCPX add-ons.

This video above the is the most complete public look of the final product. it does both text/shape extrusion as well as obj import, with support for 4K textures. Performance is as advertised.

Very much Video CoPilots Element3D for Motion.

Cannot wait to pay for it myself.

around 5:20 in the video, Simon says something about '3D tracking <murmur murmur > in Motion5' - sorry, my English isn't good enough:

That throwing-car sequence is tracked; with Motion5? Or with 'something else' ?
afaik, the tracker of M5 isn't 3D like Mocha..
Or, am I fooled, and the it is 'just' the 4-point-tracker to 'fake' some perspective?

________

second thing I don't understand completely:
those 'elements'/objects/textures are part of the deal or are additional 'in app purchases'?

________

... I'm SOOO keen on this plug-in! It's that 'Maya for the rest of us' I'm dreaming of for years.
… but I'm pretty sure, it's somewhere way beyond the 300€ barrier ... with so many features! And it looks brutally fast!

He said the tracking was done using an external tracker. Mocha Pro works perfectly with Motion 5.

Hey Karsten,

Mocha Pro is a jewel, but asides from being relatively expensive it also requires a very intensive learning curve.

SliceX/Tracks only uses a very, very XXXS light version of the tracking possibilities of Mocha and yet this already makes it a very powerful tool to have. I'm sure Motion X will get superior tracking features as well, we are only scratching the surface right now of what FCPX and Motion will be able to do ;)

yeah - I'm happy, I'd learned to edit my tiny sport reports... and still learning 'new' tricks. A friend of mine allowed my to play for an hour on his set-up with Twixtor (my boys want slowmo .. more slowmo.. even more slowmo!!) - that's way beyond my head, and I don't have the 'want' to spend so much time for such professional tools. A 3D-analysis of some game move would be nice eye-candy - but costs too much time (that's why I never learned Blender). And money.

No, no real 3D-tracking needed here; those 'stitched' titles in TrackX is probably a nice one for next season.

... and mObjects would be the ultimate jaw-dropper ...
again: for me, my players/parents will not notice... :S

Am I correct: mObjects allows to import 'any' 3D.obj?
Because I have a long list of websites, offering 'free' models for download.

Cars, planes, choppers, AT-ATs, dinos... what 13y olds are intrested in :silly:

"Any" is a big, big word. As you know there are many different kinds of 3D objects, depending on the software they were created in and how their were exported. So we will have to wait and see B)

I believe that remember reading from another post by Simon that the 3D tracking was done using SynthEyes.

But I'll see if I can't get an answer from him about that.

That could be very well possible. Both are excellent trackers and both can export tracking data to Motion 5. Although I find Mocha to provide better planar tracking options.

Szymon from MotionVFX revealed today that they've got a release candidate 0.9.9 for mObject. Planned release date is next Tuesday.

When I asked him about the tracking examples, he specifically said they use SynthEyes. While a good tracker, mocha is not a 3D tracker (as far as motion is concerned)

Good to know, I'm looking forward to trying out this plugin.

What Szymon said is partially correct. Mocha 2.3 (which is included in After Effects) does not have true 3D camera solving capabilities. OTOH Mocha Pro, now at v.3, is a full 3D tracker that exports 3D cameras and trackers to AE and FBX (Nuke, C4D and all other 3D applications). That's what we use it for. Unfortunately I see now that Motion 5 cannot import the new 3D camera solves yet, while it does import 3D cameras and trackers from Syntheyes (this has been possible since Motion 3).

Indeed. And while I doubted that Motion would get it's own built-in 3D tracker (just like with FCPX, at it's low $50 price I think 3D tracking is a reasonable add-on), I was hoping for additional support for 3rd party options with Motion5.1. And perhaps this is possible with the new FXPlug3 support (or some hidden new part of the code)- but nothing has come of it yet.

So, yes, to do the types of tracks you want with 3D objects, SythEyes is the option you want. For now.

Since nothing spectacular came to Motion since v5 I think Motion is being treated as add on for FCPX like Compressor. :(

I DO see Motion as a FCPX add-on, but I don't necessarily see that as a negative thing.

Before Motion 5.1 was launched, I wondered aloud what improvements Apple could make to the application. It's certainly less obvious than the list of features we'd all like to see for FCPX.

While AE can do amazing things, a large part of it's power lies in 3rd party support. There's a lot of really great demos out there that wouldn't be possible without plugins from Video Copilot (Element 3D, Optical Flares), or Red Giant Software (Trapcode Particular), The Foundry (Camera Tracker), etc., etc...

I think, much like FCPX, Apple is trying to provide an affordable core product- and now with additional FXPlug support, hopefully we'll see some of the holes in it's functionality filled out.

With mObject coming this week; better integrated camera tracking and a more robust 3rd party particle effect are a couple of the few remaining big things I'd like to see.

Except Broadcast Monitoring, I want that back NOW!

I used AE for a decade. But Except for camera tracking, I haven't needed to open AE for years.

Back to the original topic, a note from mVFX on twitter says they'll have loads of tutorials up on Tuesday when mObject launches.

I kinda agree with you , but as I mentioned before I see Apple Motion as a Motion graphics application and After Effects as Visual Effects.

Still if you strip out the 3Rd party support there are still features in After Effects that Motion is lacking to put it in the spotlight.

Don't get me wrong I really love Motion and its interface (have been using is since v1... what ruff ride it was ;) ) but for simple and quick graphics, it's great! I've done large and extensive projects in Motion arrgghh...
