FCPX.1 Keyframes still messed up

Hi Kurt,

I have been trying to replicate your example.
First of all I noticed that when I place the first two keyframes and check their interpolation in the viewer, they both show as linear, but the outgoing movement behaves as smooth, which is odd.
For instance I placed the first keyframe for x = 0 at time = 1:00, second keyframe x = 100 at time = 1:10.
You'd expect a movement of 10 pixels for every frame but it gives a position of 2.8 pixels at time 1:01, 10.4 pixels at 1:02, 21.6 px at 1:03 etc.
Further investigation showed me that if I place the first keyframe in the inspector at 1:00 and leave the x value at 0, go to 1:10, type the value of 100 for the x position in the inspector (which automatically adds a keyframe) the interpolation is linear with a 10 pixel movement per frame. However, when I add a second keyframe in the inspector by first clicking the diamond and then changing the x value, the movement is smooth. The same happens when I drag the video in the viewer to a new position.
Very strange behavior indeed.
I'm also able to replicate the placement of the pasted keyframes in-between frames. This happens when you drag the playhead to a new location. The pasted keyframes can be moved to the start of a frame but you can't get to the last keyframe anymore by clicking the "next keyframe" arrow.
I was able to avoid this by pressing the right or the left arrow on the keyboard first before pasting the keyframes. This made them land on the start of a frame.

So I think there are definitively some bugs concerning key framing in this version. The workarounds can help but it is not how it should be.

I will send my findings to Apple.

Cheers,
Robbert-Jan

Hi Robbert,
thanks for the test.
I am not 100% sure yet, but it looks like creating keyframes in the inspector will always create the key on the start of a frame correctly, but the viewer will not.

Also i havent figured out yet why some keyframes will get created set to smooth, others linear.

And copy paste the keyframe will not keep its original setting of linear or smooth..

BTW, out of curiosity, was my original description of the bug similar to the actual video of seeing it in action in the video?
when you first followed the steps, did your timeline and keyframing look like the one in the video?

thanks
kurt

Yes I could replicate your timeline with the same behavior.
I am now preparing feedback for Apple but I will try to find out a predictable workflow later (might be tomorrow) and post it here.

I checked FCP 10.0.9 and you can NOT add a video keyframe in the middle of a frame using the viewer or inspector. The playhead will jump to the start of the frame before making the keyframe.

How about in the Video Animation HUD?

No. If your talking about 'show video animation' when rt clicking on the clip in the timeline...

Pressing alt with a mouse click in the center of a frame will cause the playhead to jump to the start of the frame before adding in the keyframe. This goes for all the areas (transform/trim/distort/opacity)

Also tried with a MP4 Clip with embedded audio (h264 aac) and the same results. You can add a keyframe mid frame for audio, but not video.
