10.0.6 Quirks etc...

Figured I'd start a new topic for this. We now have persistant I/O ranges in the event viewer. Problem is, clearing the "selected range" snaps the playhead beck to the start of the clip. This umm... sucks. Any other quirks/bugs folks are finding?

Where is it supposed to put the playhead? I don't see that as an issue at all. How is that a major problem? Seriously, you have multiple ranges on top of remembered ranges, and this is an issue?

Notice FCP X is more responsive and stable now?

It should leave it where it is, not move it at all. For the record, I think persistent I/O was totally unnecessary.

This is a non-issue as you can just mark new ins and outs.
Only thing I'd like is to have some better controls in the viewer. Seems a little odd to still have to do my skimming in the browser when I have all this real estate in front of me.
I still wish I could tailor the interface to my liking. e.g.. put the info panel, fx panels and browser on one monitor leaving the timeline and viewers on the other. But this is just a little thing.

Performance for me, in particular launching is GREATLY improved.

A lot of us need it badly, plus the multiple I/O (and remembered) will speed up many workflows. For really large projects, this is vital.

I'm sure if Apple could add 500 new features in 3 months, they'd have done it.

Don't understand the skimming in the browser comment. Not sure what you mean.

Fair enough. I just don't like that it snaps to the start of the clip, which screws up *my* workflow. ;-)

Agreed on the fast launch. The event I opened has a folder of projects associated with it containing at least 50 projects. (multiple versions of multiple spots) When updated from .4 to .5 X crashed about 5 times while updating them all. This time it just plowed through em and opened right up. :-)

I still don't understand how that snapping to the start of the clip messes up a workflow. I'm very interested in learning what works and doesn't for users. So if you could elaborate, I'm all ears.

I agree that the playhead should stay where it is when clearing selected range.

Sure... I generally have full 60- 90 minute clips as source. I know that I can just leave the range there and move along, but sometimes I want to clear it, and I want the playhead to stay put so I can continue where I left off without having to hunt around to try to find the frame I was previously on. I know there are workarounds, but I shouldn't need one. In FCP 7 or other NLE's clearing a range doesn't arbitrarily reset the playhead, and X shouldn't either. Just my opinion....

You don't need to clear a range before selecting a different one. Just don't hold the Command key and it'll just start a whole new range.

Kerning still doesn't save, and now double-clicking won't open a compound clip.

I get that, I just don't think the playhead should move, ever, unless the user explicitly moves it. On reflection, hitting the X key alone accomplishes what I want. But I still think that using the "clear range" should not affect the playhead position. If for no other reason than the fact that other NLE's don't. As I said, I never missed persistent IO, so I just expected it to work like it used to...

Don't know about kerning, but double clicking a CC works for me. I also really like that it asks you to name a CC when you create it. :-)

edit... Ahh, it doesn't open CC's created before the update, though "open in timeline" still does. FWIW, breaking the clips apart and then re-making the CC solves this. Though if you've added FX to the CC you should probably copy the old CC first so you can paste them (attributes)back onto the "new" version....

Interesting, maybe it's because the compound clips in my project were created in 10.0.5.

Creating a Compound Clip in a Timeline, now places it by default, into that timeline's default event. Love it!

Another one... choosing "show/hide Viewer on second display" (i had it mapped to a key) used to just work without ever stopping playback. In 10.0.6 it stops. Bummer.

Yep... give it a try... Trashed prefs etc... Also, for some reason, I can't "expand audio components" on clips either. Trying to figure out what's up with that... another weirdness, when i select a clip in the event, and enable 2 (of 4) audio channels and cut it in, then either break it apart or open it in a timeline from the sequence, 3 of the 4 channels are disabled, which is how I had it set before I updated to .6. Even more oddly, when i select the clip in the project and open the inspector, it shows 2 of 4 tracks enabled. But they're not. Have to see what happens in a new event/project...
