Just my point, you call me out for moaning, then say you have no idea, then list the VPN, which is it?? You know or you do not know???

You are listing options that you don't need that are irrelevant. Neither of us need to know what they are in order to establish a VPN connection. They are simply not required.
I have a feeling that you may be looking in the wrong place.

I merely made a suggestion about VPN, I never wanted to be taught how, I just brought up that there is a problem, and looked for ideas.

How to send big files is a major headache and something that is only going to get worse, remember the story of the small boy in Holland and a body of water behind a wall called a dyke???

That is just my point, this is a problem, and how do we solve it??

for what it's worth...
I use Dropbox, it does cost me about $100/year for 1TB of storage, but that isn't that bad in my books, mailing media drives would cost more in the long haul. I also have used mediashuttle for sending to clients, but that's rare, not sure what their cost are. I also have a qnap server if I realllllly need to send a file, but my upload speeds are embarrassing while using that from home.

all the best,

Don't think i could manage without Dropbox. In the UK £7.99 a month for 1TB so £95.88 a year. Smaller files - promos etc I often use Google Drive - 15GB free!. If there is a need for client approvals I have on occasions used the trial of Frame.io but don't have the need to invest in it on a full-time basis..

You guys have been busy! :)

Ok, my problem has evolved... Because I effed up, now I need to send the original 30-ish gigabytes AND a 74gb ProRes file... How can I split the ProRes file into 4 sub 20gb parts that are easily merged by the recipient?

Ouch! Is the ProRes simply a copy of the 30GB original? If it is then could the ProRes not be generated at the other end?
What a pain!
The blurb for the free trial of Signiants 'Media Shuttle' says:
"With our online demo, you can send a file of any size to anywhere you need it, securely – and prove just how much faster than FTP you can move large files with secure, high-speed transfers."
Maybe give that a try?

One of the cameras I shot with both internal AVCHD and external ProRes, so the ProRes is of better quality obviously.
The agreement was to shoot AVCHD so it is a bonus though... Problem is that they bought a hard drive that we transfered the files to. But that hard drive won't get to them for a couple of weeks. And I did something wrong on that file so audio is out of sync (was shooting 23.98p on the FS700 but the 7Q+ was set to 25p. Easily fixed but they have the wrong one). So it's rather embarrassing, so want to fix it...

I managed to split/compress the file into four sub-20gb chunks (took 3 hours) using a free app called Keka ( www.kekaosx.com ).

Trying to send files now using myairbridge... Feels a bit slow but it doesn't tell you what the upload speed is...

So... Sent files using myairbridge.com. Client has problems downloading so that seems not to be a solution.
Also took 18 hours to upload the stuff... So sending a drive now. Gah.

Ah, I feel bad for you Dmitri. I think many here, myself included have at some point been in a similar position.
Just found this list on Tech Radar - could maybe be useful for future reference. www.techradar.com/news/internet/cloud-se...ng-big-files-1181486

Thanks.

Yes, the biggest problem is that I don't do this often enough. Most of the time I edit what I shoot and only have to send the finished file... And all the solutions that seem good and reliable enough are the kind you have to sign up for monthly accounts... And it's not worth it for a one off thing.

Hopefully the harddrive arrive in a timely fashion...

OK! I'm confused. Why is doing all this other stuff better than spending $10 for a month of Dropbox? You don't have to make a long term commitment. The great thing about Dropbox is that if I've got the local app (as opposed to just web interface) I can set off a render at work and by the time I'm home, it's uploaded and I can share the link with the client if I want. If this is a paying job, why wouldn't you spend $10 and be done with it?

I know what you mean. I get billed monthly and without a minimum commitment. I'm pretty sure I can cancel at any time so I could get it for one month only if needed.
