The thing that's interesting about all of these MacPro memes (good or bad), is that it's exactly what any company would want. There is a massive amount of visibility for the MacPro, it's like the Harlem Shake with all the different ways people are interpreting the design. That's the kind of advertising you can't buy.

I think the designers are flattered that the design the MacPro has generate a huge amount of buzz. The fact that someone would take the time to poke fun at the SHAPE of a computer is in my book some good wholesome fun. We have a trash can in our conference room that was designed after the cheese grater MacPro case. We make it a point to chuckle when we see it.

The innards however, are where there is great excitement as the MARI and Pixar folks have testified. The MacPro is where things are headed. Although there will be growing pains losing PCI cards, from my experience once you go Thunderbolt it is like switching from SCSI to Firewire devices. If you recall before FireWire and USB were in the first iMacs and SCSI was dropped, you had to power down your computer to switch an external drive.

Here is my favorite MacPro mockup:

The one I want to see is the one I keep alluding to, the monolith from 2001.

2 pics, the apes jumping around it with sticks (Microsoft)

Then the awestruck spacemen on the moon bowing before it.

The interesting thing is that it's polished chrome and not black at all, just photographed in the dark with light reflecting off of key parts. From what I've seen of the videos from WWDC, it does not look black at all. But I could be wrong.

I think that's cause the other videos are taken thru the glass case it was displayed in. It looks just as presented above in the Pixar presentation video.

Is there any way to see the videos without an account?
Apple let us see all day one videos without one, why now the added restrictions?
Do they want us to promote this thing or what?

… those who paid 5.000$ for a week WWDC are probably a bit 'flattered' to have at last a FEW privileges ;)

It demoes beta-hardware with beta-software, Hoffmann started his show with a big smile "what can possibly go wrong?" Nothing went wrong, but I fully understand some … secret-mongering.

Some tough-guy will upload the video soon on YT.- Not me!!

Or, wait a few days … I'm sure, Apple/The Foundry will see it in public.
… although: it's very special software - the average YouTuber will not conoisseur what's going on - a toon-character gets some elephant skin … woo, big thing! ;)

Hi Trix,

You can just sign in for free using your Apple ID:

developer.apple.com/wwdc/videos/

Like Karsten says most of these vids are highly technical. The ones that are interesting for us, mere mortals, are the Special Events videos.

The Foundry event (called Painting The Future) is exceptionally interesting because it clearly shows the tremendous power of the new MacPro combined with a high-end CG paint application that has been fine-tuned for this new machine. I really cannot wait to see how fast the new FCPX will fly on this B)

when Muri, handling 10GBs of data in a 60fps/3D surrounding works stutter-free - how does Motion act?

faster than light?
animation done, before launching your MacPro? :woohoo:

Exactly what I was thinking. If an application is optimized to work with a specific set of hardware components you can get amazing results. Motion has always heavily relied on GPU processing. If they tweak it further to fully tap from the power of these workstation GPU's you cannot imagine how much RT you will get compared to now. These are interesting times...

Personally, I think it was Apple's best keynote in years.
I was smiling all the way trough.

It already started with the opening of the keynote. A non-sentimental, very graphical nice animated movie about their philosophy.

OSX that finally will get some overdue features, and some nice new welcomed features, as well as going away from the ugly designs of the Lion-era Calender and Contacts.
Features that also focus on usability and 'power users'. (the CPU/battery feature, the tagging which I'm sure reminded everyone here at FCPX's organisation, ...)

A New Mac Pro. What can we say? Finally! A polarising machine, for sure, but everyone who worked with it, is raving about it. So I'm looking very much forward.

A special mention of FCPX as getting an update to work with all that new Mac Pro power.
And I saw FCPX a couple of times in the presentation in their pictures, which made me smile, that they would put so much focus on that.

iOS 7 looks great. I'm not a fan of everything in there (the icons, the pink in the Music app, ...) but again, it's very stylish, and also has great usability features.

To be honest, I've never been more optimistic about Apple as a working professional than after this keynote.

Though I appreciate the UI refinements, the big takeaway for me was the greatly enhanced multi-display support. 2 displays PLUS an appleTV? Yikes!

Hopefully to go along with this there will be expanded FCPX options for multi-display layouts.

I too loved the Keynote, & yes it did grab us right from the get-go.

Refreshing to see that Apple is one of the few multi-billion dollar companies that is still employing poets.

"AirPlay as a full power second monitor."
That alone will be amazing. I use AirPlay a lot with my ATV, but not for video editing, too slow. Note the slide showing AirPlay using an HDTV via ATV was a laptop running FCPX. A little hint at more goodness.

On top of an HDMI port on the 2013 Mac Pro.

Monitor setups could change dramatically.

Motion 5 tweaked to use BOTH Mac Pro Firepro GPUs, crazy faster RAM, "the mind wobbles!" (Anyone catch that reference?)

If Compressor gets the same hardware tweak, well...

An interesting side note for those who are dreading the expense of 4K monitoring.

While the news from Sony about their 2 4K TV options (priced at 5 and 7 thousand respectively) at least beings them into the realm of mere mortals: the shocking news is that you can buy a 50" 4K TV on Amazon right now for under $1,000.

www.amazon.com/Seiki-Digital-SE50UY04-50...-120Hz/dp/B00BXF7I9M

While I wouldn't trust this brand for colour accurate monitoring, it's heartening to know that when the new MacPro does come out, there will be a 1:1 pixel display available at a highly affordable price.

Finally on the display front, it will be interesting to see if Apple provides a Retina Cinema Display option to go with the MacPro. If the current CD goes for $999, I'd guess a Retina CD could be in the neighbourhood of $1,999 to $2,999. I say this thinking back to the premium price of the old 30" ACD.

As a bonus- I suppose we could also see a 4K ready h.265 ready aTV.

I still remember the sticker shock of the original 22" ACD - $6000!!!!!

I didn't have it but I did see (in person) a studio in Ottawa running eight of those. I was speechless.

We were under the impression that this new MacPro was going to max out at 40 gigs of ram. Can't recall exactly where we heard that information, but it was in one of the many reports published online.

Geekbench is reporting testing one with 64 gigs of ram on board.

Hmm, how high will it go? That number, along with a price are still nebulous speculation at best...
