Quite a range of naysayers on the new tower, but I'd be happy with something smaller and more powerful. Bring it!

Its hard to tell what the new Mac Pro will be. I hope industry likes it. Is it missing expandable hard drives and more than 2 video cards? yes...but I work for places that already had external hard drives...of course not video cards. But with the thunderbolt 20GB/s, I dont see where you can complain to a high degree about this. No matter what your going to get better performance than any mac pro previously, and you have 6 thunderbolt drives to go crazy with. Thats 3 displays, 2 external hard drives, and a video card by black magic. Dont forget wifi network abilities and 4 usb 3.0 ports for anything like an i/o device.

Call me old fashioned but I am watching this to help me get my head around things :P

So where is the DVD drive

And does the new version have a handle?

Me thinks it is so small that you do not need a handle

In case anyone is balking about non-upgradable GPU in the Mac Pro, take a peek at this:

Lucid Thunderbolt External GPU Demonstrated

I'll bet Apple is working on this. Perhaps there is more to the Mac Pro than just the Cylinder.

Tbolt 2.0 throughput is 2x of 1.0 at 20GB bi-directional, Intel has officially announced.

Plus a Tbolt 2.0 thumb drive.

New Mac Pro looks super impressive to me. A version of FCP X is being written specifically for it's hardware config, too. Which means a killer FCP X machine. How could anyone not like it? PCIe Flash storage will make everything else feel sluggish. Very fast RAM that is very impressive. Smaller, less noise, less heat, I'm purchasing the moment they go on sale. 4 USB 2.0 ports, 3 T'bolt 2.0 ports. THREE! Dual GPUs that will handle 3 4K monitors at once. That is so far superior to anything we're using now, it ain't funny. T'bolt is the future (thank goodness), get used to it. Folks have always cried over the price of eSATA RAID. Now they can cry over the price of T'bolt RAID. Whatever is newest and fastest will be the most expensive. That's life. On top of some new OS X Mavericks features, I think FCP X has a killer future ahead. 2014 is going to be very exciting.

"The next generation Mac Pro is architected around an ingenious unified thermal core that allows the desktop to efficiently share its entire thermal capacity across all the processors. The result is a pro desktop with breakthrough performance packed into a design that is one-eighth the volume of the current Mac Pro. Next generation Intel Xeon E5 processors with up to 12 core configurations deliver double the floating point performance. With two AMD FirePro workstation-class GPUs, the all-new Mac Pro is up to 2.5 times faster than the current Mac Pro and delivers up to an amazing 7 teraflops of compute power. The new Mac Pro also features PCIe-based flash storage that is up to 10 times faster than conventional desktop hard drives and includes the latest four-channel ECC DDR3 memory running at 1866 MHz to deliver up to 60GBps of memory bandwidth. With all that power, the new Mac Pro lets you seamlessly edit full-resolution 4K video while simultaneously rendering effects in the background."

Forget the naysayers... Just like FCPX, the MacPro didn't come in the exact shape they expected, same thing with iPhone, now everyone's copying.

Apple is the master of blending leading edge scientific technological breakthroughs with artistic aesthetically pleasing & functional design.

Even this web page...

Not only is the machine amazing, but the website design is too

scroll thru this

What you guys figure it's going to cost?

Anyone else already fantasizing about a really cool little road case & having this thing on a film set with you?

Only Apple could have re-invented the desktop. I entirely agree, this is a killer machine and I can't wait to get a couple of these in my hands. The future is looking very, very bright...

I'm imagining not having this hulking mammoth of metal breathing fire hot air out from under my desk anymore!

I'm imagining at holidays putting a witches hat or a Santa hat on top of it and sticking face stuff on it and decorating it with silly stuff.

I'm imagining less heat, less noise, less space, and way more powerful RAM, CPUs, storage.

I'm trying to imagine, but it is really hard to, a version of FCP X that is actually faster to edit with than it is now. That part just blows my mind.

I'm imagining Apple releasing 4K T'bolt monitors about that same time.

I'm imagining there actually is some place to pawn off my 2008 Mac Pro where it will get used, and not have it just gather dust in the storage shed.

But a road case? Come on man, that's just CRAZY! LOL

And with the tagging, tabbed Finder, dual monitor behavior, and all of that stuff in "Mavericks", imagine the potential for FCP X to really blow our minds....

T'bolt requires GPU chip set onboard.
The power of the dual Firepro chips inside the new Mac Pro will power 3 4K monitors without a sweat. Show me a stock computer that can do that now. Did you catch the specs on those GPUs? Seriously, that is some amazing power!

SIX T'bolt 2.0 ports. FREAKIN' SIX! 20GB out, an independent 20GB in.

And with the 6G T'bolt stuff Blackmagic Design is doing (AJA is about to lose me totally), show me what I need PCI for.

Why do I need that? It is only 133MB, T'bolt 2.0 is 20GB bi-directional. :woohoo:

I guess, this was the Apple Keynote with most laughters for years!I really liked that spirit.

The Woz looked impressed by The Cube... öhm, Tube.

This 'condensate' of hardware-porn will surely blow my hobbyist' budget by factor 10 - so, it'll really seperates the boys from men :P

Looking forward for real-world tests, they announced a demo with Pixar today.-

.... that idea from another thread, 'FCPX included' (as iMovie on consumer devices) gets more and more realistic, imho, to demo that beast.

With two built in GPUs and tons of flash-mem, the price-tag will be … challenging …

Maverick seems to offer lots of 'useful' stuff, and iOS7 is just gorgeous! (that 3D effect looks to me a bit .... playful. We'll see).

So, I'm pretty sure, my next Mac is … an iMac - good enough for soccer-dad

So, no one's dared to speculate on the price...?
Come on, who wants an iMac now, soccer dad or not, the black monolith beckons.

Maxed out at 40 gigs of ram... mmm.. pricey.

Tricked out hard shell aluminum road case.
The other case will look like the large satchels for art portfolios, but it opens up like a clamshell with two 40" monitors inside. Framed perfectly, you don't even have to take them out. Jacks port right thru the shell.

I'll be on set...
