Alpha 0.1.6
Added OBJ antialiasing.
Improved text/SVG antialiasing.
Fixed light direction in OBJ.
With the addition of antialiasing on 3D Mesh objects, I see no reason to not be using this for real work. I've already used the text extrusion on several jobs to great effect.
Specifically, a spot for Canadian Tire where there is a 3d flip of text to the company logo. Each spot ends with "CANADA'S XXXXXX STORE" stacked, with the centre word blank to be customized for each spot "AUTOMOTIVE" "BIKE" "SPORTS" and so on. With mExtrude in FCPX, I was able to match the existing 3D text elements right in the NLE- never having to go to Motion.
Pretty wonderful.

Simon today provided a sneak peak of the custom Interface UI.
Definitely see some similarity between this and element 3D, which is really the gold standard for this kind of plugin. Except of course that mExtrudes 3D models inhabit Motion5's 3D space better than Element does. That's not Video Copilots fault, its just the way the partical elements interact with the rest of AEs 3D space.
While I'm hooping for a big Motion6/X update to go along with FCPX 10.1, I reeeeely hope it doesn't screw with mExtrude's implementation.
For how much I use Motion, this is almost as big a deal for me as 10.1 or the MacPro!

it was YOU who titled this thread
Extrude Text plugin…
THIS looks 'a lil' beyond' text extrusion…
a) as a Hobbyist, my very first question would be "How complex is lights and material settings?"
b) 2nd question: "What 3D-formats are supported?"
c) "What, if I just have 3D-data, no materials, no shaders, no lights?" … (yes, the Hobbyist again, owning a long list of URLs "free 3D objects" ....)
d) … when Twixtor alone costs ~300, what would SUCH a 'plug-in' cost???
… keep us informed, when avail!
(turning to my son "no, no new bike this year! Santa will make Daddy a huge gift!"

As to your questions-
a) there's a link to the interface above- it seems this is very much going to turn out to be the "Element3D" of motion- a very popular plugin for After Effects. That interface hints at separate textures for colour, specular, diffusion, reflection, etc. All the standard texture elements needed for a complex looking texture map. Textures can be up to 8K large- plenty for getting in really close on objects.
b) right now it looks like they're focusing on obj import- a very common format with stock 3D sites like TurboSquid.
c) there's been no hint of pricing yet, but I would imagine it would be in line with motionVFX's other high end plugins like mFlare- which costs $120.

ok, this allows a bike AND a gift for Daddy …
THANKS for detailed reply …
For about 2y I try (again and again) to teach me Blender - way above my head, and, as a Mac-user since '86, a GUI-nightmare ('click' on right mouse?! What are they smoking in the Netherlands?? … I know
Yes, 3D IS complex, but sites as turbosquid makes it 'easy' for-the-rest-of-us, to apply an Ufo or an At-At to some of our holiday-movies ...
… fall 2013 gets really, I mean really interesting ..............

The way the objects are integrated into Motion's 3D world is actually superior to Element3D. Element3D object are actually complex particles, but don't share the common 3D space with other elements in AE.
m3D objects will actually cast and receive shadows and reflections from anything else in Motion 3D space.
I don't generally build models myself either. I just buy them and use them.

this gives a 7.8 on the open-ended "shut-up-and-grab-my-money"-scale …!! :silly:
ok, me far from perfect with lights and esp. with 'navigating me & my camera' thru an 3D environment of M5, but combining best-of-both-worlds is a new scale of awesomeness!
… years ago, I had some cheap thingie called Carrara - objects were ready-mades, I just added some camera-motion and lights ... HA! The internet never forgets:
youtu.be/yrWxrm1qt_4
was my last attempt to understand that kind of software ....
ok, … 2014 Star Wars is still 'hot' - perhaps my son's meanwhile too old for such kind of fun!

One of the things I'd really like to see MotionVFX do is create a new section of their store (or just attach it to Stockeon) for models tested to work in m3D. Either created by them or user submitted (just like video stock). VideoCopilot does model collections, but I think a pre-tested store for single objects is the better way to go.
Last word from them is still a November release, which isn't that far away now.
