motionVFX looks like it's releasing a Extruded text plugin was created by Disproportionate Pictures

If you check their twitter feed, they posted a teaser image showing extruded text in Motion5.

I Love QC should have a "real" 3D text plugin for us in a few months, also.

Look in to "3D Supercharger V2", which is also coming to Motion 5 soon.

There are a lot of amazing plugins being developed. 2013 will see FCP X do a lot of nice things. I can't say what, but it will be very exciting.

I've been keeping up with the development for 3D Supercharger- but MAN! do they need to get someone cutting better demos for their product. The visuals they're showcasing don't inspire me to investigate the product at all.

Good to hear about some development on the Motion side this year. I still like elements of it better than AE, and I hope we see some advancement on both Apple's side AND from plug-in developers.

Also- give me back broadcast output from Motion!

3D Supercharger is still developing, will support more 3D features, be more efficient. They're programer / VJ's doing some great stuff, and rely on user feedback for what specific things they move forward with. So I encourage you to drop them a line and let them know your thoughts. But it will be nice to get real, true 3D text, though.

Element3D has set a high bar for what to expect from this kind of functionality, both in terms of the real-time performance you can get working with the models, as well as the quality of the imagery you can get out of it.

Straight 3D extruded text is a great first step, let's hope FCPX's architecture allows for a substantive solution. Any plug-in I'd consider to replace what I'm using Element for would at the bare minimum need to have texture maps.

Plugins take time to develop, but thank goodness for Quartz Composer. 3D Supercharger does support textures, but there is a speed bump dealing specifically with external textures, and they are working on it at this time. I'm just glad I eventually won't need to go to AE or Motion for this stuff.

more great updates to the mExtrude Alpha from MotionVFX. Now in this version- reflection maps!

For anyone who has a need for it, I'd say you could probably be using this on real jobs at this point.

Interesting to note that these object interact fully with scene lighting, cast and receive shadows, and self-shadow. AND are reflected by surface planes in Motion.

It really does make me believe there's lots of untapped power under the hood of Motion that hasn't been brought to bear yet.

My experience with the scenes that come with the Alpha is that the openGL performance is pretty good. It's not quite as nice as Element3D, but miles ahead of the native Extruded Text in AE CS6.
