Hey guys...Can anyone advie on this. I'm trying to do an effect where a person would disintegrate into sand and be sucked into a monitor/tv screen. Any tutorials or advie from anyone. Can I even do this in FCP or do I need to go to after effects (which I am not as faniliar with). Thanx

Not possible in FCP.

It might be possible in Motion, but I doubt you'll find specific tutorials to help you.

Most likely possible in AE, and you will find a number of tutorials online that will assist. Search through the VideoCopilot website to have a look at the various tutorials by Andrew Kramer, there will probably be something similar that could be combined to get the effect you are after.

BTW; when I need a special effect done that I can't possibly do myself, I just usually hire an AE wizard to do it for me. That way I can focus on the rest of the job.

Definitely possible in Motion. Best explanation/tutorial I've seen for this was Patrick Sheffield's "How To Cheat In Motion".

Also do-able in After Effects as well.

I've done this in Motion a few times. Nat that difficult. "How To Cheat In Motion" has the recipe for it.

I've had them just fall into sand, blow away in the wind, being sucked into a TV set would only require an invisible shape with an Attractor behavior.

In it's most basic, primitive, simplistic form:

Good to know.

Having never used Motion before the current edition (Motion 5), would that book work with Motion 5's interface? I take it that the program has not changed fundamentally (in the same the way FCP7 to FCP10 did) ?

It will absolutely work with Motion 5's interface. Motion 5 underwent a change to the UI but performs in essentially the same manner. Motion 4 tutorials are applicable to Motion 5. (one change that I've noticed is that the 'displace' effect has been renamed 'bump map'. Different name, same functionality)

Hi Ben....yeah that's the effect (that you linked to). Obviously I then need the direction etc for the 'hoovering' up element but it's a good start. Do you know are there any tutorials or indeed templated for that?

Hi SImon...yeah if I could get an expert to advise assist on this it would certainly be easier but I don't know any. Also, unfortunately Im probs not rich enough to afford such help...bummer. Unless you know of anyone who would put help ahead of hire?? If Carlsberg did AE...! Tnx.

The book "How To Cheat In Motion" has the recipe for it.

It was called Bump Map in 4, too.

Well the guy I use is in Uganda, so probably not much use to you.

However, there are lots of genius kids out there on youtube making amazing fx videos. A couple of years ago I was involved with a project that needed a certain effect that was available as a tutorial on the videocopilot wbsite. The producer put a notice up on the videocopilot web forum asking if someone could do it for a small fee. The footage was sent to the guy that accepted, and sent back 1 week later completed.

There are lots of guys with amazing fx showreels on videocopilot and various other websites; worth looking into....

My Title plugin KRMBL is based upon the effect, discribed in 'How To Cheat In Motion'
www.fcp.co/forum/text-titles/25415-krmbl...into-particles#76721

but that is no 'effect' you can paste upon people in some video...

Step #1 would be to record the person in front of a greenscreen.
Than to shatter him/her into pieces is no rocket science, sucking the particles into some wormhole, as asked 4 years ago in this thread, is the much trickier part…

hmmm, no idea ... I vaguely remember some Startrek-like 'beam' effect .... but I guess, that's again a tutorial, no canned ready-to-use effect.....

What exactly are you looking for?
maybe I can help ... (keep your wishes simple :woohoo: )
