I'm creating Event files directly on Final Cut from the camera's SD card, creating projects and then exporting the projects. Then I'm backing up the event files and projects onto a 2TB external drive and then deleting the projects and events from Final Cut before moving on the next project. The internal disk has 586GB used and 413GB available.
I don't know what disk Warrior is but the Apple Store technician ran Disk Utility about two hours ago.
He got the program to stop crashing by moving the event folders to another location so that they were not recognized by Final Cut. We tried loading another event file and it was fine. He suggested that I load event files through the Camera instead of direct from the SD card which I did when I got home...first attempt Final Cut crashed. The tech's final word was to back-up everything to be sure, erase the entire disk including the OS and then reload everything.
Tom Wolsky I usually optimize media, create proxy media and analyze color balance when I initially import media but the program has been crashing when I attempt to import ANY media.

Disk Utility doesn't do much, it rarely "fixes" anything.
Turn off all that analyze stuff when you import. Do that stuff later if the individual clips need it.
Reinstalling the OS is how you fix things when you don't know how to fix things. Stop going to the Apple store, they've no clue what they're doing with FCP X.
Just saying...

Thanks for the input. I copied down the books you mentioned. Honestly, based on what I do and need video for, I may not ever get to them, but who knows.
Also, I've gone back and watched "The Trainer" and the bit from "The Right Stuff" a couple of times. The more times I watch, the more I get a sense or feel for what's going on from an editing standpoint.

Turning off the sound is something I do intuitively. Being a musician, I can't have music on and work (on anything) at the same time. I end up getting distracted and listening to parts of the song (producer in me). It certainly is an excellent tip.

I'll give the OS reinstall a try. The Drive is FW800, I'll check that it's 7200rpm
Out of interest...If I was to upgrade my system for more overall speed and efficiency, what would you recommend?

As for upgrading hardware, wait until Apple announced the next batch of new updated Macs we should hear about very soon. Hopefully at the WWDC keynote address on June 11th (this coming Monday).

You are wanting a iMac right? One for sure get the best GPU (graphic card) and I would pitch the top of the line CPU (i7) the rest, hard drive external or internal and system RAM is upgradable.
Oh yeah two displays minimum.
It always depends on the budget.

I'm now able to share with you a taste of what it was like.
These aren't the finished edits and only low res previews but give you an idea. As I said initially they were put together in a matter of days.

Oh--and thought the explosions at the end were a bit much.
Seriously, quite nice.

And since X works with it natively, it's easy to import and work with. c300 and FCPX is a great combo.

Also, by dint of every shooter and their brother having a DSLR or three and plenty of lenses (which work with the c300) you've always got lots of glass to choose from when setting up your shots.

Yes is certainly is. Though I'm still a little confused as to why the went with Mpeg2. As to the project it was the genius idea of the cinema owner as a way of "personalising" his cinema. Giving it a sense of community by running one these shorts before each feature screening.
We reckon there is a real future for this kind of work and are going to start pushing this idea to others. We have a nice little kit consisting of the Canon 5Ds and the C300 a nice suite of lenses and a few lights. It's all you need nowadays to make really amazing video.
