You guys are completely spot on, the mark of a great teacher and professional is one who never stops learning, even if the lesson comes directly from a student. FCPX has been a challenge for those in the industry whose egos prohibit them from the challenge of learning a completely new way of working. No matter how experienced you are, it really doesn't matter at the end of the day, you must embrace the changes in technology that happen and create new innovative ways of working to stay ahead of the curve.

Wise words. 34 years ago I was cutting 35mm film with a razor blade and I have been learning ever since LOL. This is one of the most polite forums around, let's keep it that way.
Yes agreed! I have high hopes for fcp.co

I remember before FCPX was released there was a rumor that Autodesk and Apple agreed on that Apple will stay out of the high end level and Autodesk will produce software on the Mac.
Check out the latest Smoke 2013 and there online demo videos (attached image).
Smoke has been retooled to run on the most recent generation Apple iMac and MacBook Pro systems.
Don't forget to read the frontpage of this site folks
I was hoping to see something like this from Apple Final Cut Pro and Shake merging in to one Application... remembering the Rumor web sites claiming that Apple is working on a next-generation compositing application codenamed Phenomenon.
For 3500 buck I might jump on to the Autodesk bandwagon!

I have come to like FP10 a lot. With three units in daily production coupled with Resolve, if we can also add one-way finishing in Smoke for short form programs I'm all won for this concept. Can't wait to get my hands on this thing

I want everything in one place, no screwing about travelling back and forth between multiple apps. If I can edit easily in there as as well - it may become my software of choice.

I'm still waiting for Phenomenon. That would work greatly with the soon to be expected Pro Book G5.Scrubelicious wrote: I was hopping to see something like this from Apple before FCPX.
OTOH: Is the mysterious new app that rumored maybe Apples answer to Smoke?

A similar attempt has been made with HitFilm Ultimate, this software that started off as a special effects package called Effects Lab Pro a number of years back. Effects Lab worked pretty well when I used it for compositing and special effects, and now they have moved into the editing arena (on PC only).

It looks like a valiant attempt by a small company of filmmakers, but squarely aimed at the budget action filmmaker.
Interesting to see how this works out for them....

The Next Gen of NLE is about doing everything under one roof - in one timeline. And IMO Apple have blown it with FCPX and their handling of the Pro community and the Mac Pro update. I love FCPX as a programme - but it lacks some very basic things that rule it out of a lot of jobs I am working on.
Smoke 2013 looks like exactly what I need.
I know there are FCP trainers on here that love moving back and forth between different UI's and Apps (they'd be out of business without the need to train for more than one app I guess) - but for me its just a giant pain in ass.
If Smoke does what it says on the tin, I would say there are going to be many that move from FCP to it - and then what is stopping all those editors heading to the PC if Autodesk write it for that. Its a very slippery slope.
what goes up must come down and all that.
