Same video clips are getting relinked in different events

I have three events in the project I am working on and when I relink files in any of one the event the same files get relinked to the other events as well. The footage imported in each event is in a separate folder so I don't know how a file can get relinked to other file having a totally different path folder. The only thing common between them is their file names; they're similar. But I have never had any issue before with similar file names because their path folders were always different. This is the first time I am having this problem. Can anybody please help me with this? Thank you.

If you have identical filenames in different folders this can cause a variety of problems. This has been discussed many, many times in various forums but unfortunately is not part of any official media management training I'm aware of. See below links to previous discussions on this forum.

Another possible cause is when copying a multicam clip, compound clip or project to another library. That can cause spurious duplicate references and mis-linked clips. Sam Mestman discusses this from 06:30 to 11:00 in the below video. He demonstrates it on a Lumaforge NAS but it's not unique to a NAS. "Final Cut Pro X Virtual User Group #7":

So after spending a whole day and trying various methods to fix this issue, one method finally worked.

I created a new library and copied an event from the problematic library to the new library. I was able to successfully relink the original media to the event in the new library. So I repeated the process for the other two events as well. Then I copied all the three events with proper original media linked to them to another new library and things were fine after that. Though a small portion of the timeline has mismatched clips but it's manageable.

Lesson learned : Never use same name for the clips. Change the camera settings.
