Events and Projects Librarys Missing in FCPX (but folders and videos in finder exist)

I had offered to help this fellow directly and gave him my email so we could screenshare but didn't receive a response from him. You and I both know that several of the issues that we have tried to resolve on this board have been the result of illegally obtained software. While that doesn't appear to be the case here, it is interesting that of the many times I have suggested folks call Apple, with only one exception, no one has reported they called.
I myself have been corresponding with Apple Pro support on a few issue in FCP X for over a month and they have been most helpful and responsive.
So obviously their results will vary, but I think it is still a good thing to recommend.

I'm going to post a trouble shooting guide here, from a PDF I have on one of my sites that's a free download. May help folks in the future.

I will attempt to uninstall and re-install over the next few days and see how this goes.
Just to note though each time I start up FCPX I get the
Import iMovie Events, Import Files, Import From Camera (as if FCPX were starting from a new fresh install each time)
but I don't want to import the files again I want to get back the Projects and Events Librarys.
I guess if I go as BenB suggests (Launch FCP X, create new Events, Import that media again) I'm NOT going to get my projects back? Also it worries me that if I do this and start to create a project from scratch again, I'm just going to lose the event/project libraries again.
tpayton I appreciate your offer to help me out personally, but I am only online sporadically and am unable to say exactly when and for how long I would be free for you to help me sort this out. So for now the best thing is for online help via this forum.
Does anyone have a UK number for Apple Pro Tech Support? Or an online contact form?

If you have at least 15% of each drive's total capacity as free space...
If you have the proper folders and the proper places...
If you've moved FCP X to the trash and opened App Store, gone to the Purchased tab, and Installed FCP X again...
If you've run Disk Warrior to repair the directory on all drives...
And they are not being read, then the databases are corrupted, and you'll have to start from scratch. Apple has not yet released a database repair function like we have for Aperture.

Could you elaborate on "Start from scratch" please?

Have you done anything on my list, if so, specifically what?

I then decided to start up FCPX with the external hard drive attached AND with also keeping the same events projects in the proper place on the internal hard drive.
FCPX very slowly said what it was reading on the splash screen as it started up the FCPX (When this hasn't been working properly it usually just whizzes through this)
And then Events showed up OK and in Project Library there were the same projects twice (one on Macintosh HD, one on Untitled - My external Hard Drive).
I could access all of it OK except I had one error message. (Which I clicked OK to).
I closed down/booted up FCPX a few more times and it was all still there OK.
Then I closed down FCPX, disconnected my External Hard Drive, rebooted the system, opened FCPX again (without External Hard Drive Connected) and it went back to not recognising anything again.
So I reconnected the External Hard Drive, started up FCPX again (I got a different error message, to which I clicked OK) but this time only three of four projects were there, but all 3 events were there. But they were all projects on the External Hard Drive NOT the internal Hard drive.
I restarted FCPX and all four projects then appeared from the External Hard Drive, but not from the internal hard drive.
So I then decided it was time to re-install FCPX as I said I would.
When I move FCPX App to the Trash The Final Cut Pro Event and Final Cut Pro Projects still stay where they are in Movies folder on the internal Hdrive.
Is this correct?
Anyway, so I trashed/reinstalled FCPX and it seemed to work properly again, but I thought I'd try a reboot to see if it was permanent. (Just to note it had also created a New Event with Date type Folder as per before)
Rebooted the system, FCPX wont recognise the events/projects again.
And its KEEPS creating new event folders in sequential order every time I start up FCPX
ie
New Event 5-01-2012
New Event 5-01-2012 1
New Event 5-01-2012 2
New Event 5-01-2012 3
New Event 5-01-2012 4
I'm wondering if this has something to do with it?
Also Weston, I HAVE run a disc permissions repair as stated earlier and this IS NOT a pirated copy. I don't know how you have managed to come to this conclusion from me not being online/available enough to have someone sort me out with a screen share? I am NOT a professional video editor I do have a full time job elsewhere and I have only recently gotten into video editing and do it purely as a hobby.

I'm making a late appearance on this thread (I just stumbled upon it), and hope that this dilemma you've been facing has been resolved, and that you're living happier now, but if your problem, indeed, persists, then I will make a supposition here as to the conditions of your scenario and offer this:
When you dragged the concerned event and project (likelier the folders thereof) into your master "Final Cut Events" folder and master "Final Cut Projects" folder respectively, you will have wanted to make sure that you MOVED the items over (command + mouse drag), and not just COPIED them over (mouse drag). When you next start up FCPX, it should prompt you to update your events and projects. Do so by simply clicking, "yes," or "update," or whatnot.
Now the project and event you've been missing will likely show up as desired. Naturally the next step is to celebrate with party streamers and your favorite dance song. All this is, of course, if I've supposed your scenario correctly. If I have not, then I apologize and suggest that you still bust out the party streamers and dance music. Life should be fun.
Cheers.

I'd also run Disk Warrior and rebuild the directories on all of your drives.
If you're on 10.0.3, move the CurrentEvent file out of the Event folder to somewhere else and crank up FCP X. This will force it to read the backup database. If that doesn't work, Remove, reinstall, and run Disk Warrior.

I just have my files on a separate hard drive and work on the projects from there.
Its a work around but at least it works.
Cheers

"Also one thing I have seen is make sure your projects and events have proper system permissions, click on the folder and then hit cmd+i at the bottom make sure you have read and write permission. If you do not, this is the culprit. Simply change the permissions and apply to all enclosed files."

I can't confirm that maybe depends which location you are calling?BenB wrote: Yeah, but don't expect much of an answer from them. A real Final Cut solution to a problem has always been very rare coming from Apple tech support and retail stores.
