how do you copy a range from the timeline and paste it somewhere else ? (seems silly but ...)

(Maybe I'm crazy ... )
No, no. I like to have as many options as possible too. I can't test this right now, but I think this should work:
1. Instead of "range" use "blade all" (shift command b) for in & out.
2. Delete selection in secondary storyline with backspace key.
3. Lasso the primary SL selection and drag it into the gap (or better move out of PSL with alt cmd up).

You aren't the only one. I posted a scenario in this thread: www.fcp.co/fcp-forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-f...write-connected-clip
Editing a continuous 4-way split screen seems particularly unsuited to FCPX since you need a persistent *spatial* correlation from a video "track" to the corresponding screen quadrant. You don't want them to jump around and close gaps, and you want each "track" to behave the same. You don't want special behavioral rules for one track vs the others. I'm still not sure what the best way to handle that scenario is in a pure FCPX manner.
Your situation does not seem quite like that. It is just a music video with various synchronized A/V angles. Previously you may have been accustomed to doing rough stringouts on multiple tracks and copying and pasting, but FCPX is not designed for that methodology. You have to work with the product the way it is, not the way you want it to be. It is obviously possible to make music videos with FCPX because people do it all the time. Here is a simple example from MacBreak Studio:
IMO your situation highlights a significant deficiency in the tutorial content within the FCPX community. There should be an entire book or video series dedicated solely to helping track-oriented editors transition to FCPX. It should include all these common cases (including yours) and explain how to do each one the "FCPX way". It should also include the underlying philosophy and explanation for current FCPX behavior. IOW don't just say "do it THIS way not THAT way", but explain the design rationale in each specific case of why FCPX behaves as it does.

Me neither. Ron should try to explain the purpose. I think he tries to establish two or more parallel timelines - complete edits , synched to the same audio - with the ability to freely swap ranges between them. Why? Why several parallel MCs? Aren't 64 angles enough? Is there a content-related reason to separate them? Does he want to mix BTS with existing edits whilst maintaining the integrity of the song? Can you multicam multicam clips? Very crazy indeed. But interesting too.

As much as I like these debates, the reason why they are difficult is because sometimes it is really hard to explain in writing what can be explained in 30 seconds while being in front of the test subject.
I tried to explain WHY I am doing things like I do, if it still does not make sense to anybody, fair enough. Thank you very much guys for your inputs. Very appreciated. Yet, never mind. Let's move on and back to the very questions I asked at first just for themselves.
Is it possible to copy a range from the timeline and paste (overwrite or insert) it at the skimmer's position (be it in a secondary storyline or somewhere else) ? Seems not (yet), but if anyone comes up with a practical answer I am interested.
Is it possible to drag n drop a range from the timeline on top of another clip and "replace from start" (like it works from the browser) ? Seems not (yet), but if anyone comes up with a practical answer I am interested.
That's very unfortunate to see that simple and intuitive things like that which would come up handy from time to time are not (hopefully yet) possible in FCPX.
Again thank you guys for your inputs ! It's always worth sharing thoughts

I have a few other questions about what is possible or not in FCPX and will start a topic for that too just in case
Cheers
