10.3 issues
dchai wrote: Regarding the drag lag, I believe it's somehow related to the waveforms being drawn or redrawn. If I use the icon only display or the minimal display in the sequence, then dragging things around is quick and no lag. But turn on waveforms and a longer timeline gets super sluggish to drag things around. If you just use shortcuts to edit into the timeline or copy paste things there seems no lag. Only dragging clips around on a longer timeline with waveforms enabled. Certainly not good enough, but at least there is a way to work without going insane. The lag is so bad it's faster to change the timeline display, do the drag operation, and change the display back than to click and drag a clip with waveforms displayed and trying to move it around. Really hope Apple can fix this one soon...
Doesn't work on the project posted in this thread with severe drag issue.
I have had a couple of projects where it did speed things up a bit.
But there is something else going on here.
Remember, the drag-lag issue is present on off-lined timelines as well, meaning there are no waveforms present. Changing clip display has no effect in this case.

I've updated and tried playing around with the timeline in the XML previously mentioned here.
Drag lag is now a non-issue as such!
While FCPX's timeline is still a bit "clunky" the big issue of up to several seconds of delay when mouse dragging clips has been fixed and - for me at least - there's no more beach balling when moving clips around and I think both scrolling and clip dragging is now pretty responsive and quite alright!
Props to the pro apps team for listening.

We have tested your Project from the FCPXML on several iMacs on our system, and we cannot reproduce the drag-lag.

That's a very long Timeline, and with snapping on, zoomed out so much, and not knowing your hardware specs, I'd say that's a very heavy Timeline on limited hardware. Just guessing.
Why not edit each scene in it's own timeline, and assemble them later for output? That's a very long timeline to keep track of.

Editing is not complex at all, and keeping one hour long sequence makes sense. FCP7 did the job, Premiere Pro does it now.
Regardless of what NLE we use on a job I test FCPX workflow. Nine times out of ten it is multicam and lengthy timelines.
The timeline from the original post was tested on the iMac 2015 (i5, 24 GB RAM) and the Mac Pro (6-Core, D500, 24 GB RAM).
