Just to keep everybody up on the details:
Yes, the script breaks, but for very large fcpxml files (exceeding 5MB estimated). Slaughter's file contained over 1600 clip names!!!
Modifying the extra large file by removing everything inside the <resources></resources> tags solved the problem as long as the resultant file size is small enough. If you have to do this, make sure that you create a duplicate of the original and upload the edited file.
I have more work to do. Anybody know how to fix this situation? I've pretty much maxed out file_upload_size, max_file_size and all other related INI vars. Language used is PHP.
