In this thread or the other, this problem is still unresolved

Yes, it seems that Apple did not provide a way to drag and drop external music folders directly into the sound browser. But the thread does provide 3 ways (inconvenient as they may be) to get external music recognized in FCPX with some sortability. Copying directly to the folders (not aliases but actual sound files) provides the exact same sorting that was available in previous FCPX by dragging to the sound browser as does creating a separate library. I haven't tried the importing to iTunes but I expect that also would sort appropriately. Maybe the next update will provide an easier way to do this.

I should have actually posted the above post in the audio sidebar thread, but many of the same details still apply. I don't ever recall audio loops from GarageBand or Logic ever appearing in the FCPX sound browser in any FCPX version. As mentioned in this thread earlier, exported or bounced audio files did appear, but not all the loops and sounds that came with either of the apps that I am aware of. They could, as all sounds can, be manually copied inside the "Final Cut Pro Sound Effects" folder to make them appear inside FCPX, but they must be copied and not symlinks, and you'll need to authenticate permissions since this is an Apple system folder.

Personally, have all my sound effects in a dedicated iTunes Library. If you are spotting music, you do have to switch between Libraries. A pain, but not a huge pain. I created this Library way before FCPX. I found it was easy to manipulate metadata as well as create Playlists. Even with FCPX, I found it easier to search, play and sort with Playlists in iTunes than in FCPX. This is not true anymore with the 10.3 update. Being able to create ranges in the Browser and tag with keywords makes it much easier to playback and prep those effects than before.

In case you are unaware, Opt-click iTunes to get the prompt to change Libraries.

Dan, I think I did not word that properly. Maybe it's not all of the loops that showed up. What I had in 10.2.3 was definitely different subfolders under the music tab. They had names like "Sound Effects from Final Cut", "iLife Sound Effects", "Garage Band" and the like and contained thousands of effects, music beds, stingers and so on.

These files have accumulated over time since FCP legacy. I used to just copy the old folders over when doing a clean install and so kept the files.

Now under 10.3 most of them are gone. I surely do have the effects under the effects tab, but where does all the rest show up? Especially the great music that I think came with Soundtrack Pro, different tunes in short-, medium and long version?

I understand the idea of creating a dedicated sound library. I also once tried that under 10.2.3 (just to be able to set in and out points) - problem was that it took a very long time to load with its gazillion of files (though just 20GB in total).

Is it confirmed that the Logic and Garage Band tabs in 10.3 are for exported music only? It did not look like that in some of the videos I saw about the presentation. I am confused.

Sebastian,
By default with the standard 10.3 I can see all of the iLife sound effects, music beds and stingers when I select "sound effects" in the left side pane and click the drop down for the sounds in the upper right of the browser. Do you not see them? I don't believe audio from Soundtrack appears there and that probably needs to be added separately either thru iTunes, a user created library or by copying to the Final Cut Sound Effects folder. Only the latter method would make it show up under the current sound effects tab. Clearly this update is not as convenient for adding external sound folders and I hope that functionality might be restored. My separate library for sounds was created by leaving files in place from a fast SSD and it is over 160GB in size. The library loads in just several seconds and causes no problems so far leaving it open during other editing sessions. I would try sending apple support an email to obtain their suggestion on how to best manage user audio with the current sound browser configuration, because all of these methods appear to be workarounds to how the previous FCPX worked.
